Barbara Helen Franklin, 44, Cincinnati, Ohio, a former resident of Fairborn, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2003, in Mercy Fairfield Hospital. She was born Oct. 27, 1958, in Japan, the daughter of Lawrence and Marie (Tokiko Yamamoto) Glynn.
She was a waitress by occupation.
She is survived by a daughter, Kristina Franklin of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sons, William Franklin of Buffalo, New York, Matthew of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Joshua Childers of Cincinnati, Ohio; her mother, Marie Ostertag of Fairborn, Ohio; a sister, Marie Potts of Sacramento, California; and a brother, Lawrence Glynn of Louisville, Kentucky.
Her father and stepfather, Charles Ostertag, preceded her in death.
No visitation will be observed. Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
Burcham Funeral Home, 119 E. Main Street, Fairborn, Ohio, is serving the family.
Paul David Shaw
Died: Tuesday, August 12, 2003
Age: 60
Paul David Shaw, 60, of Xenia, passed away suddenly Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at Sycamore Hospital, Miamisburg.
Born in Xenia, October 18, 1942, he was the son of Marion W. and Senith Marie (Grooms) Shaw.
He was the owner/operator of Paul’s Heating and Cooling for more than 34 years. An avid card player and NASCAR fan, he dearly loved his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother Senith in 2002. In addition to his father, survivors include his wife of 41 years, M. Jeanne (Lakes) Shaw; a son Paul Edward (Melody L.) Shaw of Lebanon, their children, Calvin G. Shaw and baby girl Shaw; son Brian Keith (Ruth) Shaw of New Carlisle, their children, Tyler J. Shaw, Brandon, Krista and Meghan Wilson; a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Shaw of Xenia; sisters, Delores (Neil) Stanley, Donna I. Cyphers and Brenda Street; brothers, Richard E. Shaw Sr. and Mark (Michelle) Shaw, all of Xenia; nieces, nephews and their spouses, Joe Roberts and Richard Shaw Jr., Karen (Norman) Tucker, Desney Burrick, Larry Cyphers Jr., Christy (Scott) Purdin, Walter "Zach" (Debbie) Smith, Jeremy Street, Macie and Allison Shaw, Shawn and Andrew Titcombe, Jackie (Josh) Downs; several great-nices and nephews, other extended family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15, at 10:30 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, 1204 W. Second St., Xenia, with Rev. Harold Horton officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia. Arrangements have been entrusted to McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 24 N. Jefferson St., Dayton, OH, 45402.
Donalda L. Heaton

Age: 94
Donalda L. Heaton, 94, Xenia, passed away Tuesday evening, August 12, 2003, at Hospitality Home West.
Born April 3, 1909, in Xenia, she was the daughter of Charles C. and Emma Nelson Cost. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John R. Shaw, Xenia; two granddaughters and their husbands, Cheryl and George Barber, Moorehead, KY and Jennifer and John Silvati, Erlanger, KY; two great-grandchildren, Eric Caudill and Victoria Silvati; a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Anne Cost, Bellfontaine, a sister-in-law, Florence Heaton, Xenia, and brother-in-law Ralph Heaton Jr., Yellow Springs, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl C. "Pete" Heaton, April 5, 2001; a sister, Olivia Horen, and two brothers, George K. Cost and Elwood N. Cost.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 16, at 10 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Neeld Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Eddie L. Parks Sr.
Died: Tuesday, August 12, 2003
Age: 70
Eddie L. Parks Sr., 70, of Xenia, passed away Tuesday evening at home.
Born December 7, 1932, in Wilmington, he was the son of Herbert E. and Dora Davis Parks.
Mr. Parks was a member of the Union United Methodist Church and National Asbestos Local No. 79.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Killigrew) Parks, whom he married September 19, 1952, a son Eddie L. Parks Jr., Columbus; three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah L. Ray, Xenia; Terrie and Dan Hyer, Bowersville; Missie and Jeff Logan, Xenia; five grandchildren, Ron Hyer, Danielle Hyer, Ashlee Logan, LeAnn Logan and Bethany Logan, a brother and sister-in-law, H. Neil and Sandy Parks, Hillsboro; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty J. and Carl Jaynes, Jefferson City, MO; Joyce M. and Hollis Russell, Batesville, Miss.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Verna Killigrew, Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, at the Union United Methodist Church, 395 Washington Road, Xenia, with Rev. Dennie Meyer officiating.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bowersville. Contributions may be made to the Union United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Dayton.
Glen Alex Pitts

Age: 45
Glen Alex Pitts, 45, of Jamestown, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at Greene Memorial Hospital.
Born February 10, 1958, in Xenia, he was the son of the late Marshall and Jessie Cleo (Toner) Pitts.
Survivors include his wife Goldie May (Green) Pitts; a step-son, James Palmer, Jamestown; a sister Shirley (Stephen) Kroger, Centerville; two brothers, Mark (Claudia) Pitts, Jamestown and Farrell (Janice) Pitts, Greenland, NH; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the new Silvercreek Cemetery, Jamestown.
Charles Cummings

Age: 64
Charles Rodger Cummings, 64, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at home.
Born March 19, 1939, in Martinsville, OH, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Alta (Shaw) Cummings.
He is survived by his wife, with whom he celebrated 39 years of marriage August 10, 2003, Helen Kay (Nichols) Cummings.
Mr. Cummings was a tool and die maker for American Tool and Die Co., Wilmington, until his retirement. He proudly served from 1961-1964 in the U.S. Army’s Second Armored Division, nicknamed "Hell on Wheels."
He is also survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, LeRoy (Mary) Cummings, Springboro, and Charles "Bobby" Cummings, Port William; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tamara (Paul) Thompson, Wilmington and Margaret (Roy) Evans, Wilmington; a step mother-in-law, Maureene Nichols, Blanchester; a sister-in-law, Pat Nichols, Wisconsin; a sister and brother-in-law, Leora Jeanne (Gene) Rinehart, Cape Coral, FL; two brothers-in-law, Dean Nichols of Iowa City, Iowa and the late Donald Nichols; 16 grandchildren: Derek, Dustin, Vincent Wayne, Justin, Rodger, Jeremy, James, John, Scott, Brian, Charles, Christopher, Vanessa, Robert, Valerie and Mike and three great-grandchildren: Carley, Branden and Daven; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Services will be held Friday, August 15, at 2 p.m. at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South St., Wilmington. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time at 2 p.m.
Clifton Engle
Died: Monday, August 11, 2003
Age: 82
Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Clifton Greene Engle, 82, of 2827 Green Lane Dr., Durham, NC, died Monday at Durham Regional Hospital.
His wife of 60 years, Marcella (Sally) Piland Engle, was with him, as were other family members.
Lt. Col. Engle was born in Dayton, the son of the late Clifton and Louella Evelyn Greene Engle. He had lived in Durham since 1971 and was a member of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ.
Clifton Engle was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the Army in 1941, just nine days after Pearl Harbor. Shortly after the war, he switched services into the newly formed Air Force.
Lt. Col. Engle had the rare distinction of having served as both an enlisted man and an officer, receiving his commission in August of 1948. He retired from the Air Force in 1970 and moved to Durham where he worked as an electrical engineer at GTE 15 years, retiring in 1986.
Lt. Col. Engle was very active in his community, donating time and energy to his church, golf club and charities such as meals on wheels.
He is survived by his wife Sally; two sons, Garey Calvin Engle and wife Maris of Charlotte and Denton Lee Engle and wife Virginia of Falls Church, VA; a sister, Beulah Hussong of Knollwood; a brother, Thomas Engle of Dayton; eight grandchildren, Marcella, Jennifer and her husband Dave, Garey, Thomas and his wife Tricia, Allison and her fiance Mark, John, Jill and Emily.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 14, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, with Rev. Mark Pickett officiating. The family requests memorial contributions to Pilgrim Church’s Capital Projects Fund, 3011 Academy Road, Durham, NC, 27707.
