Jared Michael Newport
Died: Sunday, September 21, 2003
Jared Michael Newport, infant son of Shane and Anne Newport, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Miami Valley Hospital.
He was preceded in death by great-grandmothers Shirley Young and Maryann Jones, and a great-aunt, Toy Coates.
He is survived by his parents, Shane and Anne (Jones) Newport of Xenia; his twin, Ethyn Michael Newport, and brother, Austin Newport; a half-brother, Jordan Newport, and a half-sister, Taylor Lancaster, both of North Carolina; maternal grandmother, Kathy Spencer of Wooster, Ohio; paternal grandparents, Sgt. Eddie Miller and Bonnie McBee of Xenia; three uncles, Brent Newport of Kettering, Josh Newport of Xenia and Adam Jones of Wooster; godmother, April Whittier of Xenia; and other extended family members and friends.
Private services will be held at a later date. The family is being served by McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc., 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia.
Cheryl Vance
Died: Saturday, September 20, 2003
Age: 56
Cheryl Vance, born April 29, 1947, to Osta Lee and Louis Tarbert, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 20, 2003, at Miami Valley Hospital.
She was 56 years old.
She leaves behind to cherish memories three children: a daughter, Sharon Vance, and sons Chris Vance and Jerry Vance; the loves of her life, two granddaughters, Jessica and Kayla Vance, all of Fairborn, as well as other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, her mother on May 29, 1996, her grandmother Emily Moulton Penny on July 21, 1989.
She had worked as a driving instructor for Assured Driving until being hit by a drunken driver in November of 1995.
Cheryl loved the outdoors, horses, and enjoyed her first vacation to Myrtle Beach in June of this year.
What she loved most were her children and granddaughters who will miss her terribly.
The family wants to thank Dr. Dhingra and all the nurses on the 1st Floor Dialysis Unit at Miami Valley Hospital, Nancy & Dana and the rest of the staff at Home Dialysis of Dayton, Dr. Krebs, Miami Valley Cardiologist, who kept her with us these last 17 months.
Thank you for not giving up on her.
Graveside services will be held Friday, September 26, at 1 p.m., Byron Cemetery, with Pastor Ken Majors officiating.
Please attend the graveside services in casual attire - that’s how mom would have wanted it.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.

Lois Jean Bates
Died: Saturday, September 20, 2003
Age: 71
Lois Jean "Jeannie" Bates, 71, of Fairborn, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, in Miami Valley Hospital. She was born July 25, 1932, in Woodville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Fred and Pauline (Foster) Cox.
Jeannie was a lifelong member as
one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, attending the Huber Heights Congregation.
She was preceded in death by four brothers. Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Howard Bates, owner of Bates and Sons Landscaping in Fairborn; two sons, Michael Dale Bates and wife Brenda of Huber Heights and Joel Marlin Bates of Enon; a daughter, Deborah Bates of Santa Clara, Calif.; three grandchildren, Kristin, Amanda and Adam; a sister, Betty Stoob of Huber Heights; and numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Belton Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, where a memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. with Ted Kaskarras officiating. Inurnment will follow in Byron Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Watch Tower & Bible and Tract Society, Brooklyn, N.Y., or the Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer Society in Jeannie’s memory.

Joanne E. Reehl
Died: Saturday, September 20, 2003
Age: 73
Joanne E. Reehl, 73, Xenia, formerly of Dayton, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 20, 2003, at Liberty Nursing Center in Xenia, where she had been a resident for three years. She was born April 27, 1930, in Montgomery County, the daughter of Walter and Helen Strader Reehl.
She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton. As a teenager, she was the state of Ohio and National Roller-skating Champion.
She is survived by a niece and her husband, Sherrie L. and Stanley Collins, Xenia, a great-nephew and his wife, Michael M. and Amy Collins, Dayton, and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Janet L. Niedhamer, and three brothers, John V. Reehl, Walter Reehl, Jr., and George Edward Reehl.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2003, at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with the Rev. Ted Zabel officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Thursday, until service time. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, West Carrollton.
Harold Andrew Chambliss
Died: Thursday, July 10, 2003
Age: 71
Harold Andrew Chambliss, age 71, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Knox County Community Hospital.
He was a Korean War U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Mt. Vernon VFW Post 4027 and Moose Lodge 2555.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tim Chambliss; four brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by a loving wife of 17 years, Barbara Chambliss; daughter Teresa (Dan) Peters, all of Mt. Vernon, OH; son Ron (Peggy) Chambliss, of Fairborn, OH; stepchildren Christina (Dan) Hawkins, of Kirkersville, OH, Scot (Janelle) Simmons, of Nashville, TN, and Dirk (Candace) Simmons, of Cleveland, OH; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters; two brothers; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Graveside viewing will be at 1:30 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. service, Tuesday, July 15, 2003, in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 18260 Coshocton Rd., Mt. Vernon, OH. Rev. James Wylie, officiating.
