Upton Sinclair Brownfield
Upton Sinclair Brownfield, 96, of Cadiz, Ohio, died Sunday, November 19, 2002 at Trinity Medical Center, West, Steubenville, Ohio. He was born June 2, 1906 in Belmont County, Ohio, a son of the late Charles and Flora VanDyne Brownfield.
He was a self employed Construction Worker in the Coal Industry, and an Army Veteran of WW II. He attended the Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church near Cadiz and was a member of the Hopedale American Legion..
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Kenneth, Charles, Sheldon, Perry, Paul and Harold Brownfield; and four sisters, Grace Stewart, Edna Edwards, Mildred Whitehead and Nellie Brownfield.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews including Jim and Melvin Whitehead of Cadiz, Jeannette Brownfield of Lisbon and Barbara Jackson of New Athens.
Friends may call Tuesday, November 19, 2002 from 7-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Lisbon Cemetery, Lisbon, Ohio. Military Services will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Edward J. Bach
Edward J. Bach, 90, Bowerston, formerly of Cadiz, Nokomis, Fla. and Rochester, NY, died Nov. 16.
He was born Dec. 10, 1911, the son of the late Edward J. and Louise Bach.
He was a retired employee of Eastman Kodak in Rochester New York, a Catholic and a WWII Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mary, Gertrude and Magdalene.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Warner Warrington Bach; a stepson, Richard "Buddy" Warrington of Minerva, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Judy Spiert, Parkville, S. C., five step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and one niece, Patricia Seiple of New York.
The funeral will be Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. at the St. Theresa's Catholic Church on South Street in Cadiz with the Rev. Thomas Vennitti officiating. Burial will be at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

James D. Ourant
James D. Ourant, 81, Cadiz, formerly of Freeport, died Nov. 17 at the Harrison County Home.
He was born June 5, 1921 in Moorefield Township, the son of the late James C. and Lydia Scott Ourant.
He was a former sexton of the Greenmount Cemetery, Freeport; a former employee of Jarvis Lumberyard in Stillwater; and a former employee of the Dennison Sewerpipe Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by five daughters, Alice (Leon) Coulson of Piedmont, Ethel Jones of Berea, OH, Wilma (James) Moore of Freeport, Lois Martin of Cambridge, and Barbara (Richard) Holloway of Kissimmee, Fla.; three sons, John L. Ourant of Freeport, Roy E. (Donna) Ourant of Tippecanoe, and J. Earl (Kathleen) Ourant of Hamilton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; three step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz.
Frank "Babe" Truskolaski Jr.
Frank "Babe" Truskolaski Jr., 70, Upper Clearfork Rd., Cadiz, died Jan. 30, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident.
He was a self-employed electronic repairman. He attended the Pleasant Grove Apostolic Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by Frank Sr. and Margaret (Molnar) Truskolaski; two brothers Ed and Joe Ragits; and sister Rose Poster.
Surviving are former wife, Virginia Truskolaski of Norwalk; son James Truskolaski of Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters Sue Sokolowski and husband Kevin of Norton, Ohio and Linda Truskolaski of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters Ann Capers and Mary Gerard both of Florida.
Friends are welcome on Monday (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Borkoski Funeral Home, 555 E. Market St., Cadiz, where service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Crane officiating.
Burial in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
Olga Gustina West
Olga Gustina West, 80, Freeport, died Jan. 31, 2003 at Forest Hill Retirement Community, St. Clairsville.
She was born Aug. 21, 1922 to Emma Pechin and Charles Gustina.
She grew up in the Skullfork area (Londonderry Township) and graduated from Madison High School in 1940. She also graduated from a Business College in Columbus and upon graduation moved to Flint, Mi. After retirement in 1978 she moved back to Freeport.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband Leon R. West; daughter Emma Lee Sutcliffe; four grandchildren, Hilary Ann Sutcliffe, Gilbert Wakely Sutcliffe Jr., Shelly Sherrard and Mattice Starr; brother James Gustina of Piedmont; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Linda Toland of Freeport.
Service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Bond Funeral Home, Londonderry with Father Thomas J. Vennitti officiating. Burial to follow at Northwood Cemetery.

Arnold "Lou" Merryman
Arnold "Lou" Merryman, 64, Cadiz, died Feb. 1, 2003 at his home after a 12 year battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 5, 1938 in Cadiz, a son of the late Leonard Merryman and Enid Patterson Merryman.
He was a retired truck driver as owner/operator; former owner/operator of former Bullseye Lounge, in Cadiz. He attended Asbury Chapel in Cadiz. He was a member of Flushing Masonic Lodge and was a retired veteran of U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his wife Renee Hutton Merryman; three sons Danny of Richfield and David and Leonard both of Cadiz; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters Ellen Orr and Shirley Rogers both of Cadiz; brother Allen Merryman of Hopedale; devoted brother-in-law Leslie Orr of Cadiz; and two step-daughters Brandi Graham and Paula Laporte, both of Cadiz.
Calling hours are Monday, Feb. 3, 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with John Monasmith officiating. Burial in Hines Cemetery, Cadiz.
Commelia Mae McKinney Cutshall
Commelia Mae McKinney Cutshall, 90, Cadiz, died Jan. 31, 2003 at Carriage Inn of Cadiz.
She was born Oct. 15, 1912 in Adena, a daughter of the late William McKinney and Dessie Wease McKinney.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Apostolic Church.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband John Elmer Cutshall; two sisters Cora Mull and Cleoda Maxwell Bennett; three brothers Alvin, Clarence and Art McKinney.
Surviving are a sister Celeste Vaughn of Cadiz; many nieces and nephews.
Service will be held today (Monday) at 1 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Burial in Cadiz Union Cemetery.
