George Kasarda
George Kasarda, 72, Adena, died, Jan. 26, 2003.
He was born Sept. 23, 1930 in Adena, a son of the late John and Mary Kasarda.
He was Catholic by faith, a retired electrician from Ohio Valley Coal Company Mine #6 and was owner/operator of the former George's Music and of Kasarda's Market in Adena and a member of the UMWA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores (Phillippi) Kasarda; parents; two brothers John and Mike; and four sisters, Elizabeth Dulkoski, Mary Kacsmar, Anna Miric, and Helen Fonda.
Surviving are two sons, John of Shadyside, David of Dillonvale; daughter Sandra Koleski of Adena; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. at Borkoski Funeral Home, Adena, where service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. with Msgr. John Kolesar officiating. Burial in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
William B. Ossman Jr.
William B. Ossman Jr., 79, Cadiz, died Jan. 24, 2003 at Trinity West, Steubenville.
He was born Sept. 5, 1923 in Wellsburg, W.Va., a son of the late William B. Ossman Sr. and Ella Arimina Wilson Ossman.
He was a retired steelworker, Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Mingo Junction Plant. He was a member of the First Apostolic Church of God, Cadiz. A member of the United Steelworkers of America; Deacon and board member of First Apostolic Church of God, Cadiz. He was a Navy World II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Lucas Hendricks.
Surviving his wife of 57 years, Frances Montgomery Ossman; eight sons William Ossman, III of Kings Mountain, N.C., Ronald Ossman and wife Sandra of Greer, S.C., Douglas Ossman and wife Carol of Jewett, Russell Ossman and wife Barbara, Akron, Daniel Ossman and wife Sheree of Cadiz, John Ossman wife Sylvia of Phoenix, Ariz., David Ossman and wife Amy of Cadiz and Scott and Katherine Ossman of Cadiz; two daughters Linda Hendricks and husband Gary of Lakeland, Fla., Pam Ladd and husband John of Clermont, Fla.; two brothers Dwight Ossman and Robert Ossman, both of Brooke County, W.Va.; sister Esther Hoffman of Sterling Heights,Mi.;21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Service is Jan. 27, 11 a.m. at the First Apostolic Church of Cadiz, 158 North Ohio Street, Cadiz with the Rev. Harold Hoffman officiating. Burial in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
Pauline Turner
Marie Pauline Turner, 88, New Rumley, died April 9, 2003 at Community Hospital, Cadiz, following an extended illness.
She was born April 27, 1914 in New Rumley, a daughter of the late Charles and Luella Gault McAfee.
She graduated from Scio High School and was an active member of the New Rumley United Methodist Church where she held many offices and responsibilities. She played the piano faithfully for more than 75 years. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Women and the Women's Christian Temperance Union.
A former employee of the Scio Pottery, she was a devoted wife and mother and helped her husband and son run the family dairy, beef and grain farm as long as she was physically able.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph S. Turner; parents; sister, Thelma Spiker.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James (Velma) Gross of New Rumley and Mrs. Charles (Wanda) Ledger of Cadiz; son, Neil and Dorothy Turner of New Rumley; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one sister, Twyla Thompson of Jewett.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 1 p.m. in the New Rumley United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lee and the Rev. Don Stire officiating. Burial in New Rumley United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may call Friday (today) April 11, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in Koch Funeral Home at Scio and two hours prior to the service at the church.

Paul Vernon Hopkins
Paul Vernon Hopkins, 76, Baltic, formerly of Adena, died April 9, 2003 at Baltic County Manor.
He was born Mar. 19, 1927 in Harrisville, a son of the late David Simon Hopkins and Mary Milburn Hopkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, David "Bud" Hopkins, Harry "Hagan" Hopkins and George Hopkins; and two sisters, Helen Monaco and Doris Hopkins.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Murriel Hopkins of Adena; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are April 12, 2003 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Burial follows at Olive Branch Cemetery, Harrisville.

Bessie M. Hartley
Bessie M. Hartley, 96, New Athens, died April 8, 2003 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz.
She was born Sept. 21, 1906 in Jackson County, Ohio, and a daughter of the late John Samuel Yates and Amanda Anne Abrams Yates.
She was an Ordained Assembly of God Minister in 1929, a member of New Athens United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Hartley; parents; grandson; six brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are four sons, Lloyd Jr. and wife Doris of Sugarland, Texas, W. Paul and wife Shella of Yorba Linda, Calif., Sam and wife Mary Lou of New Athens and Joe and wife Barbara of Pataskala; daughter, Louise Defer and husband Charles of Columbus; a foster son, Robert Bishop and wife Lucille of East Palestine; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are Friday, April 11, 2003 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral service will be held April 12, at 11 a.m. at New Athens United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Mehl officiating. Burial follows at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

Jeanene P. Owens
Jeanene P. Owens, 67, Cadiz, died April 4, 2003 at Wheeling Medical Park, Wheeling, W.Va.
She was born June 27, 1935 in Cadiz, a daughter of the late James H. Freeman and Anna Mae Robinson Freeman.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Willie Owens; parents; two brothers Clayton and Lorenzo Freeman; sister Tempia Christian.
Surviving are four children, Diana White, Patricia Smith and Christina Jordan, all of Cadiz and Irvin (Rusty) Freeman of Temple, Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tony Freeman of Pasadena, Texas and David Freeman of Columbus; sister, Delphine Freeman of Steubenville.
Service was held April 7, 2003 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz with the Rev. Ray Ellenbaugh officiating. Interment at Cadiz Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Mary (Monzula) Sawko
Mary (Monzula) Sawko, 86, Cadiz, died April 4,2003 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz.
She was born June 15, 1916 in Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Helen Monzula.
She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church in Cadiz.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Sawko Sr.; parents; brother, John Monzula.
Surviving are a son George Sawko Jr. and wife Sue of Cadiz; daughter Dolly Carlton and husband John of Chesterland, Ohio; two brothers Paul Monzula and George Monzula and wife Marilyn, all of Cadiz; three sisters, Pauline Culverhouse of Willoughby, Ohio, Helen Thompson of Cadiz, Elizabeth Sawchek of Troy; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral liturgy with Mass was celebrated April 7, 2003 at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Cadiz with Father Thomas Vennitti as celebrant. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Hopedale.
