Ruth A. Ramsey
Ruth A. Ramsey, 72, of Cadiz, died Oct. 27, 2007 at Harrison Community Hospital. She was born Sept. 4, 1935 in Cadiz, a daughter of the late Raymond R. and Anna Jackson Brooks. Mrs. Ramsey was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Cadiz, where she was a member of the Gospel Expressions Choir, the Missionary Society and the Stewardess Board # 2. She was also a Senior Companion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Ramsey in 2002. Surviving are two sons, Marshall and Ray Ramsey; two daughters, Foncetta Johnson and Paula Ramsey, all of Cadiz; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother Raymond (Donna) Brooks of Cadiz; special aunts, Shirley Dandridge of Cadiz, Elizabeth Hinkle of Oberlin, Laura Beall of Cleveland, and Virginia Rucker of Columbus; a special adopted daughter, Marie Mason Harris of Martins Ferry; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Friends may call Wednesday, 7-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church, Cadiz, with the Rev. Charles Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery.
Rosetta Hython West
Rosetta Hython West, 68, of Steubenville, formerly of Cadiz, died Oct. 27, 2007 at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville. She was born Oct. 7, 1939 in Cadiz, a daughter of the late John Floyd Hython, Sr. and Doris Wheeler Hython.She was a retired employee of Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz, where she worked as a dietician for 20 years. She was member of the Harrison Hills United Pentecostal Church in Jewett, where her pastor was Rev. J. Hugh Rose.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Austin West, Sr.; two sons, John Henry West, and Dwayne Paul West; a brother, John Floyd Hython, Jr. and her mother-in-law, Edna Mae Reed Good.Surviving are four daughters, Yvonne Carla West of Cadiz, Tara L. West, Thresa West and Stacey West, all of Steubenville; a son, James Austin West Jr. of Las Cruces, N. M.; 11 grandchildren: Angel and Amber West, Austin McKenzie, Katara West, Lacretia West, John Elder, Sheyonna, Lavontae Toudie, all of Steubenville, and Travis Paul, Kory Scott, Devon Lucas West, all of Mercer, Pa.; one great-grandchild, William Zion Austin McGhee of Steubenville; four sisters, Lillie Blackwell Pitts of Columbus, Virginia (Clarence) West of Columbus, Betty Hython of Cleveland, Ilene Hython of Mansfield; a brother, Darwin (Susie) Hython of Harrisburg, Pa.; and a very special friend, Irene. Angelina Ferraro
Angelina Ferraro, 81, of Cadiz, Ohio, died Oct. 25, 2007, at her home. She was born Oct. 22, 1926 in St'Ilario, Italy. She was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Cadiz.She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Ferraro in 1990; and by three sisters, Maria, Bridgett and Josphina Romano. Surviving are two daughters, Carmella (Harold) Evans and Gina (Richard) Furmanski; three grandsons, Anthony, Kyle and Dustin Furmanski, all of Cadiz; two brothers, Ilario and Antonio Romano of Calabria, Italy; a brother-in-law, Leonard Ferraro, of Cadiz; two cousins, Ilario and Maria Romano of McKees Rocks, PA; and several nieces and nephews.Friends may call Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, 172 S. Marjorie Green
Marjorie Green, age 96, of Marion, Ohio formerly of Bedford, Ohio, Freeport, Ohio and Fort Myers, Florida died at 9:33 p.m. Friday, February 29, 2008 in Sunbridge Nursing Home, Marion, Ohio.Born September 11, 1911 in Erie, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. Lytle and Helen Crooks Lytle.Green was a graduate of Bedford High School, Bedford, Ohio, class of 1929. She attended Freeport Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers Methodist Church, and Marion Cornerstone Alliance Church. Green married Hirrie A. Green on May 11, 1934. Mr. Green died on August 21, 1986. She is survived by a son, Allen J. Green of Clarkston, Michigan and Freeport, Ohio; a daughter, Nancy E. (Robert) Shaw of Marion, Ohio; four grandchildren, two step-grandsons, seven great-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Andrew J. Lytle, Jr., Richard Lytle, and Robert M. Lytle; and four sisters: Eleanor Lytle, Virginia (William) Miller, Ruth (Jay) Robinson, and Grace (Robert) Downie.A memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Koch Funeral Home, Freeport with Pastor Dave Koch officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. (two hours prior to the service). Lucille Marie Kafana
Lucille Marie Kafana, 89, Tiltonsville, died Feb. 28, 2008 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry.She was born Sept. 19, 1918 in Harpersville, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Peter and Nellie Pear Dugan Zontini. She was a member of the Smithfield Evangelical Friends Church, ladies missionary society and senior citizens of Colerain.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jacob Joseph "Jack" Kafana Sr.; brother, John Martin Zontini and sister, Joan Evans. Surviving are a son Jacob Joseph "Jake" (Linda) Kafana Jr. of St. Clairsville; daughter, Carolyn (Jack) Kibble of Cadiz; sister, Leona Poch of Connerville; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.Friends will be received to pay tribute to Lucille and to celebrate her life on Monday (today) March 3 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville.Funeral service will be held Tuesday morning, March 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Earl Patton Fluharty
Earl Patton Fluharty, 72, of Scio, formerly of Monroe County, died Feb. 29, 2008, in Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, after a lengthy illness.Born March 28, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Clarence and Hazel Rogers Fluharty. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Earl enjoyed caring for his many flower gardens and was a Washington Redskins fan but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Opal Mick Fluharty, whom he married Oct. 27, 1963; children Joe (Tanya) Fluharty of Scio, Carolyn "Missy" (Wendell) Habig of St. Clairsville, Tammy (Rick) Young of Jewett and Johnnie Fluharty of Scio; grandchildren Tiffany, Amber, Shania, Logan, Rachel, James, Christopher, Jessica, Wendell "Babe", Trina, Cole, Cara, Caitie, Allie, Janette, Shannon, Hunter, Tony, Dennis; sisters Gladys Groter of Missouri, Alfretta Knox of Pennsylvania, Effie Heddleson of Ohio, Thelma Kormos of West Virginia, twin sister Evelyn Sickelsmith of Michigan, Hazel Jefferies of Texas and Ester Fisher of Nevada; sister-in-law Kathyrn Fluharty of Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by brothers Johnnie, Clarence "Bud", and Raymond and Carl Fluharty and sister Nora Ritchie. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Koch Funeral Home, Scio, with Rev. Frank Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Hanover Cemetery, Scio. CADIZ - Clara R. Fitzgerald, 60, Cadiz, died Apr. 9, 2008 at UPMC Hospital Pittsburgh, Pa.She was born Aug. 15, 1947 in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Scott and Stella Hilligas.She was a cook at Diangelo's in Cadiz and Presbyterian by faith.Surviving are three children, Michael S. (Anna) Fitzgerald, Dustin L. Fitzgerald and Shacey (Leander Brooks) Fitzgerald and her granddaughter Paige Marie Fitzgerald all of Cadiz.Private funeral services were held at the Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory in St. Clairsville.Memorial contributions may be made to the family at M.S.
