Thomas "Tom" M. Rupp

Sept. 2, 1931-July 29, 2002

A funeral service for Thomas "Tom" M. Rupp, 70, of Granville, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Kauber-Miller Funeral Home, with Gus Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.

Mr. Rupp, who had worked at the Columbus Light Plant and Ross Labs, died July 29, 2002, at his residence. He was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Columbus, to the late Martin and Annabelle (Cronin) Rupp.

Mr. Rupp was a member of the Licking Valley Church of Christ, Heath Lions Club and Mount Carmel East Stroke Support.

He is survived by his wife, Carolynn J. Rupp; two daughters, Pamela S. (Jim) Salters of Springfield, and Chrystal "Chris" Gregg of Kirkersville; seven grandchildren, Lisa, John, Donna, Thomas, Patrick, Angel and Jamie; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Lynn Rupp; and one brother.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 289 S. Main St., Pataskala, where the Heath Lions Club will conduct a Lions memorial service at 8:30 p.m.

Ava J. Powell

Jan. 2, 1936-July 28, 2002

A memorial service for Ava J. Powell, 66, of Newark, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Powell, a homemaker, died July 28, 2002, at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Care Unit at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 2, 1936, in Muskingum County, to the late Richard and Grace (Frey) Longstreth.

Mrs. Powell found great joy in nature. She was also an avid gardener.

She is survived by her husband, Warren E. Powell, whom she married on June 17, 1954; two daughters, Dee Bruney of Powell, and Kim Martson of Newark; two grandchildren, Eric Bruney of Powell, and Jacqueline Marston of Newark; two brothers and sister-in-law, David and Ellen Longstreth of West Lake Village, Calif., and Richard Longstreth of Columbus; one sister, Anna Mae Wright of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Family and Volunteer Services, c/o Children's Hospital, 700 Children's Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43205.

Virginia Keeling

Feb. 6, 1916-July 29, 2002

A graveside service for Virginia Keeling, 86, of Alexandria, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday Glen Rest Memorial Estate, with Paul Snoddy officiating.

Mrs. Keeling, who had worked at Lazarus for many years, died July 29, 2002, at Forest Hills Alzheimers Center. She was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Nelsonville County, Ky., to the late Walter D. and Lydia I. Piercy.

Mrs. Keeling was an avid seamstress, gardner, singer and was a member of Tri-Village Church of Christ.

She is survived by her four children, Shirley (Robert) Brierly of Johnstown, Carolyn (James) Engler of Newark, Gary (Karen) Keeling of Columbus, and Skip (Martha) Keeling of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Crombie of Columbus, and Evelyn Angel of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Ray E. Brooks of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Keeling; two brothers; and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Assocation of Central Ohio, 3380 Tremont Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221.

Kauber-Miller Funeral Home, Pataskala, is in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Theresa (Brown) Nason

Jan. 24, 1917-July 12, 2002

A memorial service for Catherine Theresa (Brown) Nason, 85, of Columbus, was held July 21 at Asbury United Methodist Church So.

Mrs. Nason died July 12, 2002, at the Regency Manor Rest Home in Columbus, where she had been a patient for more than 10 years. She was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Newark, to the late George and Flossie McNamara. Following the death of her mother, she was adopted by Michael and Della Brown at the age of 8.

Mrs. Nason spent 33 years as a lay minister and assisted her husband, Kenneth, on charges in southwest Ohio. She served as interim pastor at Pulaski and West Jefferson United Methodist Church for two summers. Accredited as an occupational recreation therapist, she volunteered her services in hospitals and rest homes. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church South and was a tutor for the Columbus Literary Society.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth E. Nason; daughter, Patricia (Nason) Bell of California; sons, Kenneth M. Nason of Florida, Dale A. Nason of Oregon, Daniel A. Nason of Arizona, Stanley I. Nason of Columbus, David O. Nason of New York, and Aaron T. Nason of Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury U.M. Church So. Handicap Accessible Fund.

Long Funeral Home, 5528 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, is in charge of arrangements.

Bertha A. Mayer

June 25, 1923-July 28, 2002

A funeral service for Bertha A. Mayer, 79, of Pataskala, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kirkersville Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with the Rev. Michael Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery, Grove City.

Mrs. Mayer, a homemaker who also formerly worked for General Motors in Columbus, died July 28, 2002, at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus. She was born June 25, 1923, in Columbus, to the late George and Lottie (Cocanour) Ackley.

She is survived by her husband, Alonzo P. Mayer; daughter, Roberta Hook of Newark; brother, Ronald Legg of Pataskala; stepdaughters, Gale Mayer of Stanwood, Wash., Jane Seum of Las Vegas, Nev., and Susie Groce of North Carolina; stepsons, Gary Mayer of Tacoma, Wash., and Robert Mayer of New Jersey; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five nieces; and two nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 285 E. Main St., Kirkersville.

Nathan Weltman

July 21, 1916-July 31, 2002

There will be no services or calling hours observed for Nathan Weltman, 86, of Heath.

Mr. Weltman died July 31, 2002, at the Heath Nursing Care Center. He was born July 21, 1916, in Cleveland.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Weltman; son, Barry Weltman of Heath; granddaughters, Sheryl Benson and Wendy Hasel, both of Columbus; and brothers, Ruby Weltman of Cleveland and Moishe Weltman.

The Heath Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Margery G. Waspe

March 8, 1933-July 31, 2002

A graveside service for Margery G. Waspe, 69, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Cincinnati.

Mrs. Waspe, who was a longtime member of the Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church, died July 31, 2002, at Riverside Hospital. She was born March 8, 1933, in Cincinnati, to the late Erwin Gosnall and Lucille (Auel) Tiryung.

Mrs. Waspe was also active in the Hudson Avenue Historical Society.

She is survived by her stepfather, Joseph Tiryung; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Lawrence Waspe of Modesto Calif., Robert Waspe of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Steve and Diane Waspe of Newark; grandchildren, Russell (Krissy) Waspe of Lynchburg, Va., and Matthew Waspe of Newark; stepgrandchildren, Jason Wood of Columbus, Jaime (Jason) Harr of Pataskala, Lisa Lind of Newark, and Brooke Lind of Newark; stepgreat-grandchildren, Anna Lind and Rachael Harr; aunt, Mary Auel of Aken, S.C.; and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her uncle, Merrill Auel.

Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, 59 N. Fifth St., Newark.
