Harold G. Holt

March 5, 1911-Nov. 3, 2003

A funeral service for Harold Glen Holt, 92, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville with the Revs. Doug Sweet and James Stuller officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with graveside military services conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.

He died Nov. 3, 2003, at the Newark Healthcare Center and was born March 5, 1911, in Cavallo to the late Orin and Emma (Egger) Holt.

He was a farmer and a custodian for the Danville Schools. He was a lifelong member of the Tiverton Church of Christ and attended the Danville United Methodist Church. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Danville American Legion No. 650. He served as a Tiverton Township trustee for 14 years and on the Danville Village Council for 14 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jean (Klein) Holt, whom he married June 8, 1941; two sons, Jerry C. (Susan) Holt of Willow Street, Pa., and Daniel D. Holt of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter, Marilou (Ed) Tonnesen of Granville; five grandchildren, Chris Holt, Jessica and Miriam Tonnesen, and Laura and Emily Holt.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 1984 Coffman Road, Suite A, Newark, Ohio 43055, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mary Jane Vintila

Oct. 19, 2003

Mary Jane Vintila, 79, formerly of Newark, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Arlington, Va., following an extended illness.

She is survived by her sister, Virginia; and cousin, Emil Chirila, both of Columbus.

She graduated from Newark High School in 1940. After working for ALCOA in Hebron until 1945, she relocated to Washington, D.C., to work for the Department of Defense until retiring in 1990 after serving for 45 years.

A private service is planned.

Memorial donations may be made to: Newark High School, 314 Granville St., Newark, Ohio 43055 for the Newark High School "A Call to College" Scholarship Program.

Terry L. Hill
March 12, 1947-Nov. 4, 2003

A funeral service for Terry L. Hill, 56, of Newark, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 383 Washington St., Newark, with the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Noble officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Terry went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 4, 2003, at his residence. He was born March 12, 1947, in Newark, to the late Donald and Arvella (Armstrong) Hill.

Terry was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, member of the Moundbuilders Elks Lodge 821, and was past manager of the Stagg Club.

He is survived by his two daughters, Desiree Hill of Cleveland, and Victoria (Kevin) Fowler of Columbus; one son, Ricco Tabler of Newark; four sisters, Janet Powe, Sharon (James) McCall, Danielle Hill and Tracy Hill; two brothers, Eric (Diana) Hill and Darryl (Sandra) Hill; and grandchildren, Quintia, Quintaya, Kevin Jr. and Kori.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; two brothers; and granddaughter, Kevinah.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, where an Elks service will be held at 5:45 p.m.

Kermit R. Allen

March 8, 1926-Nov. 1, 2003

A funeral service for Kermit R. Allen, 77, of St. Louisville, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Harris-Dilley Funeral Home with Pastor Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial will be in Bladensburg Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.

He was a member of the former Dennis Church of Bladensburg, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by a brother, Gail S. (Louise) Allen of Bladensburg; and four sisters, Grace (Gail) Johnson of Bladensburg, Thelma (Owen) Beach of Newark, Mona (Paul) Shrider of Somerset, and Laeh Schumacher of Lake Wales, Fla.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Leota Melick; and brother, Willard Clay Allen.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Danville.

Rosalee Bowling

Sept. 4, 1938 - Nov. 4, 2003

A funeral service for Rosalee Bowling, 65, of Newark will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert L. Knox officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Bowling was born Sept. 4, 1938, in Braxton County, W.Va., to the late Oley George and Elizabeth Margaret (Fisher) Casto.

She was retired from Debolt after 25 years of building ATM machines. She enjoyed anything outdoors, including hiking, planting flowers, working in the yard and boating.

She is survived by her husband, William T. Bowling, whom she married in 1970; sons, Donald James Knight and Mark Dion Knight, both of Newark; daughters and sons-in-law, Margie and Dan Brehm and Marilyn and Jamie Brown, all of Newark; grandchildren, Rhonda Lee Wolfe, Wendy Nason, Tiffany D. Knight, Jimmy Gause, Michael Gause, Casey Brehm and D.J. Knight; nine great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ruby Brown of Newark, Bacil Casto of Buckeye Lake, Opal Hinkle of New Martinsville, W. Va., Thelma Haymond of Braden, Pa. and Annabell Damrom of Lucasville; half-sister, Anita Cauthern of Weston, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roy Casto and William Aubry Casto; and sister, Irene Warner.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

The family suggests contributions to Hospice of Central Ohio or The James Cancer Center.

Marciel Malott

July 27, 1920-Nov. 4, 2003

A funeral service for Marciel Malott, 83, Buckeye Lake, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, at the Ware Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Marcie, a beloved mom, grandmother, friend and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary, died at 12:20 a.m. Nov. 04, 2003, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born July 27, 1920, in Vinton County, to the late James R. and Minnie V. Boots Walsh. She was married to Lewis A. Malott, Sr. who preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis "Buck" and Carol "Sue" Malott, of Buckeye Lake; grandchildren, Cindy (Greg) Allbritton, Pam (Tommy) Thompson, Debbie (P.J.) Williamson, Vicki (Ron) Lohrman, Brenda (Ernie) Frost, Kenny (Trish) Malott, Cathy (Tim) Howard, Linda Malott, Philip Malott, Teresa, Marcie, Chrissy and Billy Malott; great-grandchildren, Nicole (Bo) Perry, Gregory, Vanessa, Ashley, Timothy, Christopher, Corey, Kenneth, Brittany, Bri, Courtney, James, Kahley, Cerena, Brandi, Taylor and Michael and seven great-grandchildren in South Carolina; great-great-grandchildren, Alexa and Aubrey; and a sister, Kate (Red) Jude, of Londonderry.

In addition to her husband, Lewis, she was predeceased by sons, Kenneth and James Malott.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lucille H. Christy

Dec. 23, 1926-Nov. 4, 2003

A funeral service for Lucille H. Christy, 76, of Pataskala, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Summit Station United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Cady officiating. Interment will be in Glen Rest Memorial Estate.

Lucille died at the Woodlands Care Center in Columbus on Nov. 4, 2003. She was born to the late Herman and Ethel Henderlick on Dec. 23, 1926, in Pataskala. She was a Girl Scout and 4-H leader, served on the Licking Heights School Board, belonged to the Derthick Grange and was a member and choir director of the Summit Station United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her three children, Cathy (Eric) Meister of Reynoldsburg, Robert (Debra) Christy of Alvada, and Carol (Richard) Halley of Post Falls, Idaho; and grandchildren, Cynthia (Steve) Bodie of Pataskala, Christopher Freeze of Reynoldsburg, Philip, and Thomas and Deirdre Christy of Alvada.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Christy.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kauber-Miller Funeral Home, Pataskala.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Summit Station United Methodist Church and/or the Alzheimer's Association.

John Robert 'Bob' Shepard
Jan. 17, 1928-Oct. 25, 2003

A memorial service for John Robert "Bob" Shepard, 75, formerly of Solebury, Pa., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brickman and Sons Funeral Home, 21900 Euclid Ave., Euclid, Ohio.

Bob died peacefully Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, in Cleveland. He was born Jan. 17, 1928, in Cleveland, the son of the late George T. Shepard and the late Hazel McKeighan Shepard.

Bob was the beloved husband of Loretta Nigols Shepard, who died in 1999. The couple had been married 46 years.

Bob spent his childhood and young adulthood in the Cleveland area. He was class president and graduate of Euclid Central High School Class of 1946, where he excelled as a scholar-athlete. He graduated from Case Institute of Technology Class of 1950 and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

During his life, Bob was active in his church serving as both a Deacon and Trustee, and was always active in United Way campaigns and a variety of other community activities.

Bob's career began as a metallurgical engineer for Pesco Corporation in Cleveland, then as quality control manager at Rockwell International in Newark. He held a wide variety of other managerial positions from chief metallurgical engineer to vice president of engineering at companies including Midwest Forge, Stranahan Gear Co., Rexnord Corporation and Penn Gear, prior to retiring in 1996.

Bob was an active member of several professional organizations: The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Society of Metals, and was a registered professional engineer.

He was the devoted father of two daughters and one son, Judith Shepard Hedding and her husband, Ralph of Doylestown, Pa., Susan Shepard Krysiak and her husband, Jack, of Euclid, and James Robert Shepard of Buffalo, N.Y. He was the loving grandfather of Ian, Taylor and Jordan Hedding, and Kristin and Katrina Krysiak.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's name may be made to the Diabetes Association, Case Western Reserve University School of Engineering or the charity of your choice.

Clifford D. Smith

April 6, 1936-Nov. 8, 2003

A funeral service for Clifford D. Smith, 67, of Waterville, Ohio, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Waterville (Ohio) United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jim Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow at Wakeman Cemetery, in Waterville.

Mr. Smith died Nov. 8. 2003. He was born April 6, 1936, in Zanesville, to Clifford and Esther (Harrop) Smith.

He attended the Ohio State University and served four years in the Army Reserves. He worked at Owens Corning Fiberglas for 35 years. Following his retirement, he worked as a consultant to NAIMA.

He was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church, where he participated in the choir and served on many committees. He was also an active member of Boy Scout Troop 101 in Waterville. Other organizational memberships included ASHRAE and SMACNA.

Clifford married Nancy Jo Schwartz on June 28, 1959, in Newark. She preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2000.

Survivors include sons Douglas (Jennifer) of Waterville, Ohio, and David (Robbin) of Reynoldsburg; grandchildren, Mark, Joel, Steven, Kelly, Jacquelyn and Sarah Ann; brothers Charles (Shelby) of Philo, Ohio, and Gary (Nancy) of Roswell, N.M.

Friends and family may call from 7-9 p.m. on Monday and 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Peinert Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Road, Waterville.

The family suggests memorial donations be given to the church or Boy Scout Troop 101, Waterville, Ohio.
