Joseph Ellis Ohler

March 17,1959-Nov. 13, 2003

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Ellis Ohler, 44, of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with the Rev. Timothy Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mr. Ohler died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, in Los Angeles, Calif. He was born March 17, 1959, in Newark, to Donald F. and Betty (Noblick) Ohler of Newark.

Joe, a 1977 graduate from the Newark Catholic High School/LCJVS, served on the USS Beaufort in the United States Navy from 1977-1981.

Joseph was formerly employed at Universal Veneer in Newark. He moved to California in 2002, and was employed by Lake Shrine Retreat, Pacific Palisades, where he was the food-service supervisor.

In addition to his parents, Joe is survived by his brother, David F. Ohler; sister, Susan M. Cochran; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara J. and Thomas Wheeler; brother-in-law, Arnel Capulong, all of Newark; and nieces and nephews, Denise, David, Sarah, Tony, Dustin, Tommy and Andrea.

Joseph was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Capulong.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 N. Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Francis M. Garver

Dec. 10, 1924-Nov. 17, 2003

A funeral service for Francis M. Garver, 78, of Dresden, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bert Kinsey officiating. Burial will follow in Dresden Cemetery.

Mr. Garver died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at his home. He was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Dresden, son of the late Harry W. and Edna Mabel (Adolph) Garver.

Mr. Garver was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Dresden. He was retired from National Plumbing Pottery.

Surviving are his wife, Helen L. (Jones) Garver, whom he married July 3, 1948; a daughter, Edna (Eadie) Garver Nail of Nashville, Tenn.; brothers, Dayle L. (Virginia) Garver and Earl R. (Helen) Garver, both of Dresden; granddaughters, Sonja D. (Scott) Smith of Lakeland, Fla., and Tonya D. (Andy) Fraunfelter of Winterhaven, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren.

A son, Francis E. Garver, who died May 3, 1995, preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home in Dresden.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Margaret "Peg" Mowry

Nov. 29, 1909-Nov. 18, 2003

A funeral service for Margaret "Peg" Mowry, 93, of Newark, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Bruce Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Mowry was born Nov. 29, 1909, in Erie, Pa., to the late Harry and Agnes (Pfister) Merritt.

She was a lifelong member of the Second Presbyterian Church. She was a retired cook from several organizations, a Licking Memorial Hospital volunteer, a member of Licking County Garden Club, the Y.W.C.A. Choir, the Zerger Hall Silver Club and helped with Meals-On-Wheels.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Colwick of Columbus, and Jacquelyn (Robert) Fox of Newark; son, R. Thomas (Martha) Mowry of Lakewood; sister, Eugenia Kokka of Florida; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; seven nephews; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond T. Mowry; two brothers; and one sister.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Joe Wolford

July 11, 1946-Nov. 14, 2003

A funeral service for Joe Wolford, 57, of Dundee, Fla., will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery, with the Rev. Friend officiating.

Mr. Wolford died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at his residence. He was born July 11, 1946, in Newark.

Mr. Wolford worked in sales and service.

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Wolford of Dundee, Fla.; three daughters, Kerri and Jana Wolford of Dundee, Fla., and Maranda Kirkland of Waynesville, Ga.; twin sister, Jo Ann Flannery of McKee, Ky.; three brothers, Tom Wolford of Delaware, Ohio, Keith Wolford of Indiana, and Terry Wolford of Nashport; mother, Hallie Wolford of Nashport; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Wolford.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Tracy (Markus) Crothers

July 29, 1966-Nov. 16, 2003

A memorial service for Tracy (Markus) Crothers, 37, of Columbus, will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Kauber-Miller Funeral Home, with Pastor Wayne Zavotka officiating.

Tracy died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003. She was born July 29, 1966, in Columbus, to Sharon Ross Markus and the late Daniel Stephens Markus.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Crothers of Columbus; three children, Christopher, Kiri and Daniel; two brothers, Shawn and Doug Markus; special mention, Bill and Diane Britton; many friends and family.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Pataskala.

Dora L. Cupples

Nov. 8, 1921-Nov. 18, 2003

A funeral service for Dora L. Cupples, 82, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with the Rev. William G. Cronk officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Cupples, who worked for the JC Penney Co. for many years, died Nov. 18, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Waverley, Tenn., to the late Floyd and Tishie (Matthews) Nix.

Mrs. Cupples attended the Marne United Methodist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda J. and Richard Peterson of Newark; grandchildren, Mike (Gayle) Cronin of Mount Vernon, Joyce Weber of Newark, and Patty (Tony) Phillips of Heath; great-grandchildren, Scott and Christian Cronin, Justin and Jacob Phillips and Coral Weber; brother and sister-in-law, John and Delwyn Nix of Louisiana; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert A. Cupples, on April 16, 1998; four sisters; and two brothers.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 59 N. Fifth St.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marne United Methodist Church, Mary Ann Township Fire Department, Hospice of Central Ohio, the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one's choice.

Ralph B. May Jr.

Sept. 10, 1922-Nov. 15, 2003

A Funeral Mass for Ralph B. May Jr., 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 26 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Decatur, Ga.

Ralph died Nov. 15, 2003, at his home in Decatur, Ga. He was born Sept. 10, 1922, in Columbia, Tenn., to Ralph Bailey May and Helen Marie Pfeiffer.

At 17, he traveled extensively with his father, the trainer for the Boston Braves, where he developed his lifelong love for the game while serving as the team's bat boy. He was graduated from St. Frances de Sales High School, Newark, in 1941.

During World War II, he served in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines. After the war, he returned to marry his high school sweetheart, Geraldine G. Gilmore, on May 18, 1946. They first made their home in Newark, where he entered into an apprenticeship to learn tool and die making. In 1953, he moved his young family to Circleville, where he joined Lincoln Plastics Corporation, which was acquired by US Steel. He later joined Circle Plastics Products as vice president. While in Circleville, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was active in the choir. He was a charter member of the John Hannon Council of the Knights of Columbus and remained a lifelong member. He served on the board of Trustees of the Pickaway County Library and volunteered for many years as an announcer at the Circleville Pumpkin Show. He was a member of the Society for Plastics Engineers.

After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Stuart, Fla. There, he was a member of St. Joseph's parish and active in "Sawdusters" carpenter shop, where he volunteered many hours making Christmas toys for children in need. He was an amateur historian and a contributing editor and guest columnist to both the Circleville Herald and the Stuart News. Four years ago, he and his wife moved to their residence in Decatur, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Ola Carpenter and Helen Elizabeth May; and by his brother, Charles Philip May.

He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine; his daughters, Sharon May, Vivian Charters and husband Barry, Pat Kroger and husband Daniel, and Audrey Marianes and husband Bill; and grandchildren, Brooke Smith, Alexis and Lia Marianes, and Barry and Erin Charters.

He was a self-made man of impeccable integrity, a devoted husband and father, and an extraordinarily gentle person with a kind and generous heart. He loved all of God's creatures, especially man's best friend. His sense of humor was evident in his sketches, writings and commentaries on life. He will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd., N.E., Suite 10, Atlanta, Ga. 30345.

John 'Fred' Bagent Sr.

Nov. 16, 2003

Funeral arrangements are incomplete for John "Fred" Bagent Sr., of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., who died Nov. 16, 2003, at the Heritage House, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville St., Newark, is in charge of arrangements.
