A funeral service for Martha P. Burrell, 72, of Johnstown, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Burrell died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at her residence. She was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Johnstown, to the late Urvin and Bertha Priest Hartsock.
She retired from Diebold, Inc., Newark, and graduated from Johnstown High School in the class of 1948.
She is survived by a daughter, Mona Piper; son, Bob (Penny) Burrell; sister, Mary Poulton; two brothers, Lester and Urvin Hartsock, all of Johnstown; two grandchildren, Matthew Piper and Liz (Shawn) Litterini; and two great-granddaughters, Tiffany and Christia Piper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burrell; two sisters, Margie Simmons and Maggie Baker; one brother, Delno Hartsock.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

David E. Garrett Sr.

A funeral service for David E. Garrett Sr., 82, of Heath will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Burgie officiating. Burial will follow in the Newark Memorial Gardens Cemetery, where military graveside services will be held by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Garrett died Nov. 21, 2003, at his residence. He was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Frazeysburg, to the late Charles and Zelma (Miller) Garrett.
He retired after 32 years of service as Sgt. First Class for the Ohio National Guard. He served in the Navy during World War II. He enjoyed woodworking, auto racing, vintage cars, and he most enjoyed being with his family.
His loving wife, Florence (Wilson) Garrett, whom he married on Dec. 2, 1945, survives him. He is also survived by his children, Wanda Bixler of Taylors, S.C., Nancy Jones of Newark, David E. "Levi" (Becky) Garrett of Heath, and Cheryl (Mark) Eckard of Heath; sister, Dorothy Jean; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A sister, Alice Mullinex; grandson, Richard Garrett; and a great-granddaughter, Casey Davis, preceded Mr. Garrett in death.

A funeral service for Dozinger N. Cody, 7, of Warsaw, will be held at noon Tuesday at Perry Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Fowls officiating. Burial will follow in Lock Cemetery.
Cody, everybodies smiling angel, was born on July 19, 1996, to Darin M. and Shelby J. (Nethers) Cody of Warsaw, and died on Nov. 21, 2003, at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
Besides his parents, Cody is survived by sisters, Zeaven, Zephaniah and Zairah; paternal grandparents, Rick and Lorraine Cody of Newark, and Cathy Cody of Johnstown; maternal grandparents, Randy Nethers of St. Louisville, and Malissa Brewer of Nashport; paternal great-grandparents, Naomi Cody of Johnstown, June Beaver of Johnstown; and maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Fern Nethers of Newark, and Melvin and Janet Brewer of Nashport.

A funeral service for Norman E. Shepler Jr., 45, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home in Newark, with Pastor Brian G. Dahlke officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Chapel Cemetery.
After fighting a courageous battle with cancer, we are sad to announce the passing of our beloved son, husband, dad, grandpa, brother and uncle. Norm lived his life to the fullest. He loved his family, horseshoes, his Allis-Chalmers and aunt Roma's pecan pie.
Norman died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born Sept. 6, 1958, in Newark, to Norman and Amy (Evans) Shepler Sr. of Frazeysburg.
He was a 1976 graduate of Licking Valley High School. He was a member of Local 423 for more than 25 years. For the past 13 years he has been employed by The Shelly Co.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 26 years, Maggie (Welsh) Shepler, whom he married April 30, 1977; three sons, Wes, Matt and Seth Shepler, all of Newark; two grandsons, Levi and Eli; two brothers, Jim (Vicki) Shepler of Frazeysburg, and Jeff (Marg) Shepler of Nashport; sister, Norma Ellen Hysell of Newark; mother-in-law, Jean Welsh of Newark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Agnes Shepler and Jay and Ethel Evans; and father-in-law, Jack Welsh.

A funeral service for Maude M. (Shelly) Johnston, 97, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home in Newark. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery, with the Rev. Walter Bruah officiating.
Mrs. Johnston died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. She was born July 21, 1906, to the late Thomas B. and Harriett (Swinehart) Shelly.
Mrs. Johnston graduated from Glenford High School in 1924, was married on Nov. 26, 1924, spent most of her life in Avondale on Buckeye Lake, attended the First United Methodist Church in Newark and the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Glenford.
She is survived by sons, Vern (Mary Anne) Johnston of Harbor Hills, and Tom (Mary) Johnston of Powell; four grandchildren, Greg (Louise) Johnston of Columbus, Laura (Luis) Andujar of Harbor Hills, Brian (Jennifer) Johnston of Westerville, and Melinda Johnston of Columbus; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stacy M. Johnston; her parents; a brother, Thomas; and two sisters, Daisy and Ruth.

James Paul Mercer Sr.

A funeral service for James Paul Mercer Sr., 72, of Conesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Given-Dawson Funeral Home, with Deacon Raymond Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery, Coshocton County.
Mr. Mercer died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at his residence. He was born May 5, 1931, in Zanesville, to the late Harold W. and Mary (Fisher) Mercer.
Mr. Mercer graduated from Lash High School in Zanesville, and was employed by AK Steel in Coshocton for 33 years. He was a 25 year member of Coshocton County REACT, member of AK Steel Retirees Golf League, and Elkey Bow Man Archery Club in New Concord.
He is survived by his wife, Norma J. (Moran) Mercer, whom he married on Nov. 10, 1962; sons, James P. (Patti) Mercer Jr. of Coshocton, Timothy A. (Patty) Mercer of Conesville, and Jesse A. (Lori) Mercer of Coshocton; daughters, Susan K. Lawrence of West Lafayette, and Anita L. Markley of Conesville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Donald Mercer of Zanesville, Raymond Mercer of Blue Rock, and Ronald Mercer of Frazeysburg.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Melissa L. Yoder Wilson; and three brothers, Harold "Midge," Marion and William Mercer.

She was born in White-Cottage, Ohio on Jan. 12, 1929, to the late Walter P. and Ella (Dalton) Stout. She died on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Mount Carmel East Hospital.
Norma was a member of the Heath Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill W. and Angela Baker of Zanesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Stuart Lee of Hopewell, Va., and Patty and Randy Webber of Hamilton; eight grandchildren, Billy Baker, Austin Baker, Ryan Baker, Corrinne Baker, Erin Lee, Kirby Lee, Chelsea Webber and Randi Webber; sister, Helen Cannon of Somerset; sister-in-law, Ethel Stout of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William W. Baker, in 1991; brother, Hencel Stout; sister, Betty Russell; nephew, Roger Cannon; and niece, Linda Wright.
