Zella Mae Riffle

A funeral service for Zella Mae Riffle, 63, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with Major Diana DeMichael officiating. Burial will follow in Brushy Fork Cemetery.
Ms. Riffle, who attended the Salvation Army Church, died Dec. 10, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 6, 1940, in Newark, to the late Augustus Riffle and Alma (Bradley) Riffle.
Zella Mae was a certified nurses aid at LPN for many years.
Surviving are her cousins, A. Kaye Hartman, John (Helen) Reed and Judy (Gary) Humbert, all of Newark; and several other cousins also survive.

Alice Springston
June 25, 1922-Dec. 8, 2003
Mrs. Springston died Dec. 8, 2003, at the Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. She was born June 25, 1922, in Newark, to the late Francis (Love) and John Henry Holman.
She retired from the Newark Air Force Base, and moved to Arizona in 1997, where she resided in Green Valley.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Dixie (Landis) Fisher and Hank of Green Valley, Ariz.; four granddaughters, Suellen Demaline of Alpharetta, Ga., Penny Rhodes of Los Angeles, and Tammy Schmitt and Lynnette Clark, both of Newark; sister, Mary; and brother, Bud.
Mrs. Springston was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who died in 1975; a son, James; granddaughter, Luanne; and 11 brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held in Newark at a later date.
Remembrances can be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 1984 Coffman Road, Newark, Ohio.
Jamie C. Latham
Dec. 30, 1945-Dec. 10, 2003
A funeral service for Jamie C. Latham, 57, of Utica, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Bell Church of Christ, with Evangelist Larry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Bell Cemetery.
Mr. Latham, who retired from Columbia Gas Transmission after 30 years of service, died Dec. 10, 2003, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus. He died after an extended illness, but he claims the final victory through Jesus Christ. He was born Dec. 30, 1945, in Mount Vernon, to the late Gail O. and Carol L. (Ports) Latham.
Mr. Latham was a member of Masonic Lodge 291 and Past Master. He was also a member of Bell Church of Christ.
His optimistic outlook on life will always be remembered. He was dearly loved by his family, friends and church family.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy J. (Moore) Latham of Utica; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Heather Latham of Clearwater, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Cassie and Dennis Gibson of Utica; grandchildren, Madison Latham of Clearwater, Fla., Amanda Touchet, Heidi, Joey and Cain Gibson, all of Utica; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Nancy Hissong of Utica; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lanore and Ivan Mick of Utica, and Lavaun and Jim Rice of Chatham.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Liska Latham, in 1999.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica.

Robert Sanderson

There will be no services for Robert Sanderson, 75, of Newark, who died in his home Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, after an extended illness.
Cremation is being handled by Rodman Funeral Service.
Fern E. Markham
Jan. 3, 1908-Dec. 9, 2003
A graveside funeral services for Fern E. Markham, 95, formerly of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Frazeysburg Cemetery, with Pastor Bonnie Cameron officiating.
Mrs. Markham died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Punta Gorda, Fla. She was born Jan. 3, 1908, in Frazeysburg, the late Malen and Iva (Lewis) Walcott.
Mrs. Markham was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Newark. She was a retired bookkeeper with the William S. Moore Company of Newark.
Surviving is one son, Thomas R. Markham of Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter, Judith K. Ruple of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two grandchildren, Charles J. (Randi) Ruple of Long Island, N.Y., and Thomas A. (Melissa) Ruple of Newark; two great-grandchildren, Renea Ruple and Megan Sue Ruple; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl R. Markham, whom she married June 9, 1934, and who died July 10, 1989; two sisters, Bernice Deck and Irene Smith; and a brother, Russell Walcott.
There will be no calling hours.

Robert Sanderson

Robert Sanderson, 75, of Newark, died in his home Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, after an extended illness.
He is survived by his faithful wife, Mary; sons, Sandy (Ruth) and David (Sara); and daughters, Laura (Jay) Sukow and Patti (Jim) Toole.
He will be missed.
His loving family and Hospice of Central Ohio cared for Robert.
No services are scheduled at this time.

Roy E. Harr
Dec. 20, 1907-Dec. 10, 2003
A funeral service for Roy E. Harr, 95, of Summit Station, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Kauber-Miller Funeral Home, with Pastor Phil Duncan officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Beverly Cemetery.
Roy passed away at the Newark Health Care Center on Dec. 10, 2003. He was born to the late Edward B. and Hattie B. Cowan Harr on Dec. 20, 1907.
He is survived by seven children, Jack (Sandra) Harr of Laurelville, Patti (Jim) Wyrick of Etna, Gene (Donna) Harr of Fairport, N.Y., Joyce (John) Griffin of Whitehall, Bonnie (Bill) Hoodlebrink of Napanee, Ind., Kay (David) Bakenhaster of Galena, and Kenneth Harr of Summit Station; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lera Jordan Harr; second wife, Olive; third wife, Myrtice; and three sisters.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Pataskala.

J.M. Day

A funeral service for J. M. Day, 76, of Westerville, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hill Funeral Home, with Pastor David Hogg officiating. A private family graveside service will be held Monday at Pioneer Cemetery.
Mr. Day passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Manor Care. He was a music educator for 30 years.
Mr. Day was a member of the Music Educator's National Conference, Ohio Music Education Assoc., and Phi Beta Mu (National Honorary Bandmaster's Fraternity). He was named Teacher of the Year of 1977 for Newark City Schools.
Mr. Day graduated from Otterbein College and The Ohio State University. He served in the Fourth Infantry Division from 1950 to 1952, and attended the Church of the Master U.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith Hurst and Leonard E. Day.
He is survived by his loving wife, Geneva; children, James M. (Birte) Day, and Nancy Alice Day; grandchildren, Julia and Jonathan; siblings, Leonard "Skip" E. (Barbara) Day Jr, Nancy (Hubert) Pinney, Arlyn Hurst Day, and Tahna (Larry) Pasqua; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call froom 2 to 5 p.m. today and 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 220 S. State St., Westerville.

Gerald W. McGruder

A funeral service for Gerald W. McGruder, 80, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Highwater Congregational United Church of Christ, 1213 Dutch Lane Road NW, with the Rev. Ron Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Patterson Cemetery
Mr. McGruder was born on July 20, 1923, in Knox County to the late R.E. McGruder and Edith (Clutter) McGruder and died on Dec. 11, 2003.
A lifelong farmer, Mr. McGruder was a member of the Highwater Congregational United Church of Christ; a former member Centennial Grange; a former Burlington Township Trustee, and long standing member of the Professional Agrarian Club.
Aside of his parents, Mr. McGruder is preceded in death by two children and sister Ila Jean McGruder.
Surviving Mr. McGruder are wife of 53 years Dorothy (Dixon) McGruder; son and daughter-in-law, Larry J. and Jill T. McGruder, of Cincinnati; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Lyle King, of Granville, Betty and Robert Carper, of Mount Vernon; granddaughter, Megan, and several nieces and nephews.
