Mildred E. Trost

June 1, 1914 - Dec. 11, 2003

A funeral service for Mildred E. Trost, 89, of Newark, will be held on 10 a.m. on Monday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tom Myers Officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Fork Cemetery.

Mrs. Trost died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Care Center at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born June 1, 1914 in Newark to the late Robert James and Lura Adah (DeWitt) Ford.

Mrs. Trost was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #85 in Newark; organized the Euchre Club for Zerger Hall for 16 years. She was a former member of the Rebecca Club; Newark Eagles Ladies Auxiliary; Pythian Sisters; and Buckeye Square Dancers.

She is survived by four daughters, Yvonne Weaver; Charlotte (Wesley) Newcomb; Carolyn L. Maharg, all of Newark; and Paula M. (Robin) Hood of Chandler, Ariz. Two sons, Richard Lee Maharg of Newark; and James (Mary) Maharg of St. Louisville. One brother, Robert E. Ford of Long Beach, Calif.; one sister Wilma (George) Maharg of Newark; Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; and great great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; four husbands, Willis G. Siegel, Ernest C. Maharg, Ohio Cleveland Barcus and Ernest Trost; one son, Robert A. Maharg; one brother; one sister; one granddaughter.

Friends may call at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home on Sunday from 6- 8:00 p.m. Those who wish may make contributions to Hospice of Central Ohio, 1984 Coffman Rd., Newark.

James "Ab" Andrew Hersman

Feb. 6, 1927 - Dec. 12, 2003

A funeral service for James "Ab" Andrew Hersman, 76, of Newark, will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home in Newark with the Rev. Crate Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.

Mr. Hersman died Dec. 12, 2003, at his residence. He was born Feb. 6, 1927, in Harmony, WVa., to the late Jacob and Dollie (Cobb) Hersman.

Mr. Hersman worked as group leader at Owens Corning and retired after 36 years, was a member of the Fairview Freewill Baptist Church, and was a World War Two Army veteran.

He is survived by wife of 48 years, Wanda Hersman, of Newark; sons, Michael, of Johnstown, and Tommy, of Newark; daughter, Linda (Michael) Davis, of Johnstown; granddaughter, Rachel; brothers, Rudy (Ruby) Hersman, of St. Louisville, Jesse (Patsy) Hersman, of Gandeeville, WVa., Jimmy (Barb) Jones, of Montpelier; sisters, Tressie Jones of Gandeeville, WVa., Hazel (Richard) Collins, of Reedy, WVa., Gertrude Rhodes, of Harmony, WVa., several nieces and nephews.

Aside of his parents, Mr. Hersman is preceded in death by brothers, Brooks, Donald, Roy, Troy and Oneil, and sister, Elva Fields.

Calling hours will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, OH 43055.

Virginia "Ginny" Evans

May 4, 1923 - Dec. 12, 2003

A Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia "Ginny" Evands, 80, of Newark will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mrs. Evans died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 in Mayfair Village of Columbus. Born May 4, 1923 in Newark, she was the daughter of the late George and Ella ( Siegel) Maier.

Mrs. Evans was a member of St. Francis Church, Grad of N.H.S. 1942, active Bridge player for over 50 years, member of "Couples Club", and a former member of St. John's United Church of Christ.

Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Denise Evans, of Atlanta, Ga., Larry Evans, of Hilliard; five grandchildren, Elise Evans and Ian Evans of Hilliard; Chad Evans, Kim Evans and Brian (Ashley) Evans of Atlanta, Ga., and many nieces and nephews.

Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John "Jack" Evans in 2001, and one brother, John Maier.

Friends will be received at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, OH, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Sunday Dec. 14, 2003 where a Vigil Service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jay Edward Lehman Jr.

Jan. 25, 1908 - Dec. 13, 2003

A funeral service for Jay Edward Lehman Jr., 95, of Alexandria, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Alexandria Baptist Church, 94 W. Main St., Alexandria, with Pastor Larry Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark where military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mr. Lehman, a partner in Lehman-Maxwell Service Garage in Alexandria (1949-1962) and salesman for Kenney Chevrolet in Johnstown (1962-1975), died Dec. 13, 2003, at Arlington Nursing Home in Newark. He was born Jan. 25, 1908, in Canton, to the late Martha (Wiandt) and Jay Edward Lehman.

During World War II, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Lehman was a member of the Alexandria Baptist Church, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Shrine in Columbus, Licking County Shrine Club, Licking County Scottish Rite Club, and was a 50-year member of Center Star Lodge 11, F & AM, in Heath.

Survivors include his sister, Mrs. Lowell (Martha) Keyes of Irving, Tex.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edwin B. and Jean Maxwell of Alexandria and Kenneth B. and Mary Alice Maxwell of Newark; and 21 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Maxwell Lehman, who died July 14, 2003; brothers, Robert, Roy and Virgil Lehman; and sister, Ethel E. McPhearson.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McPeek Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville, where a Masonic service will be conducted by Center Star Lodge 11, F & AM, at 6 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Center Star Lodge 11, F & AM, 875 Irvingwick Dr., W., Heath, Ohio 43056.

Rebecca "Becky" Taylor

Jan. 13, 1942 - Dec. 11, 2003

Memorial services for Rebecca Taylor, 61, of Newark, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Brockway Presbyterian Church, Brockway, Pennsylvania, with the Rev. Jeffrey Potter officiating.

Becky died at the Lancaster Fairfield Medical Center on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003. She was born in Zanesville on Jan. 13, 1942 to Mary (Balding) Swift, of Brockway, Pa., and the late Fred O. Swift.

Becky worked for many years as a registered nurse at the Lancaster Fairfield Medical Center. She would love to visit the beach when she was vacationing.

In addition to her mother, Becky is survived by her son, Ross Taylor of Leesburg, Va.; daughter, Mary Beth Eads of Centerville, Va.; two sisters, Deborah Boschini, and Cynde Kriner, both of Dubois, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

In addition to her father, Becky was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Swift, and nephew, Christopher Boschini.

The family requests memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.

Gerald W. McGruder

July 20, 1923 - Dec. 11, 2003

A funeral service for Gerald W. McGruder, 80, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Highwater Congregational United Church of Christ, 1213 Dutch Lane Road N.W., with the Rev. Ron Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Patterson Cemetery

Mr. McGruder was born on July 20, 1923, in Knox County to the late R.E. McGruder and Edith (Clutter) McGruder and died on Dec. 11, 2003.

A lifelong farmer, Mr. McGruder was a member of the Highwater Congregational United Church of Christ; a former member Centennial Grange; a former Burlington Township Trustee, and long standing member of the Professional Agrarian Club.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two children and sister, Ila Jean McGruder.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Dorothy (Dixon) McGruder; son and daughter-in-law, Larry J. and Jill T. McGruder, of Cincinnati; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Lyle King, of Granville, Betty and Robert Carper, of Mount Vernon; granddaughter, Megan, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. today at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the church or to Hospice of Central Ohio, 1984-A Coffman Road, Newark, OH 43055.

Edward Guy Taylor

December 13, 2003

A caring cremation for Edward Guy Taylor, 82, of Glenford, will be observed with a memorial service at a later date.

Mr. Taylor died at 6:45 a.m. noon Saturday at Somerset Healthcare.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 86, Glenford, OH 43739, or to the Sheridan Alumni Scholarship Fund in the name of Edward Taylor, donations to the Treasurer, Northern Local School District, 8700 Sheridan Road N.W., Thornville, OH 43076.

Loretta M. Prince

July 11, 1935-Dec. 13, 2003

A graveside service for Loretta M. Prince, 68, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wilson Cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Myers officiating.

Mrs. Prince, a homemaker, died Dec. 13, 2003, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born July 11, 1935, in Newark.

Mrs. Prince was a member of the Eagles and the Owens-Corning Campers Club. She loved all children and their love will always be with her.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Willard H. Jr. and Pam Prince of Granville, David and Tambra Prince of Panama City, Fla., Richard and Joyce Prince of Newark, Matthew and Hannah Prince of Newark, and Brian and Georgianna Prince of Newark; daughters and son-in-law, Diana Prince and friend Regina Sunderland of Bradenton, Fla., Debra Prince of Newark, and Carol and David Reichelderfer of Florence, Ky.; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Linda Snelling of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Hatfield; mother and stepfather, Flossie (Taylor) and Burl Snelling; and by her husband, Willard Herbert Prince Sr., on July 17, 2002.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Home, 59 N. Fifth St.
