Raymond W. Gray

A funeral service for Raymond W. Gray, 84, of Zanesville, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr and Chute Funeral Home, with Mr. Dallas Lockhart officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
Mr. Gray died at 9:35 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003 at Genesis Bethesda Hospital, in Zanesville.
Born June 21, 1919 in Stillwater, Ohio, he was the son of the late James C. and Elizabeth (Shaw) Gray and was an Army veteran having received two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart during World War II.
He was a member of the Norval Park Church of Christ, the American Legion of Newark and the Zanesville Elks.
Surviving are two sisters, Clara Mae Staugh, of Newark, and Maxine (Bryce) Williams of Trinway, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Frances O'Conner and Myrtle Burtscher, and a brother, Charles Gray preceded him in death.
Calling hours will two hours prior to the service, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
George L. Criswell
March 8, 1919-Dec. 19, 2003
A funeral service for George L. Criswell, 84, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta and Johnston Funeral Service with Pastor Mariam Schreck officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Criswell, who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II, died Dec. 19, 2003 at Flint Ridge Nursing Home. He was born March 8, 1919 in Newark, to the late Olin and Helen (Nichols) Criswell.
Mr. Criswell was employed by Sears for over 30 years. He was active in the Newark Maennerchor and the Land of Legend Barbershop Quartet. He was a life-long member of the Newark Elks as well as an avid golfer.
Surviving are his wife, Louise (Snyder) Criswell; daughter, Nancy Criswell and her husband Robert Smith of Key West, Fla.
Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
Gladys M. Ritchey
Dec. 9, 1920-Dec. 19, 2003
A private graveside service for Gladys M. Ritchey, 83, of Newark, will be held at Newark Memorial Gardens at a later date with the Rev. Bob Knox officiating.
Mrs. Ritchey, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 19, 2003 at the Heath Nursing Center. She was born Dec. 9, 1920, to the late Frank and Ruth (Kirk) Reeder.
Gladys was a member of the Heath United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Barry (Linda Jean) Ritchey, of Logan; daughters, Linda Kay (William) Brillhart, of Heath, and Debra Jean (Warren) Anderson, of Amelia; sisters, Evelyn Atherton and Mildred Reeder, of Mount Union, Pa., and Mona Zenoble of Shirleysburg, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, B.J. (Phil) Miller, Chad (Charity) Ritchey, Amy (Jeff) Reedy, Kimberly Anderson, and fiancé Kevin Euler, Doug and Brandy Anderson; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Nicholas Miller, Haley Reedy, Dominic, Max, and Emil Ritchey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ambrose Wilbur Ritchey, on March 4, 2001; 1 brother and 1 sister.

Alice E. (Miller) Weaver

A funeral service for Alice E. (Miller) Weaver, 86, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral home, with the Pastor Wes Humble and Bill Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Weaver, retired after seven years from Diebold in the accounting department, and she also served 19 years at Roper. She passed away Dec. 19, 2003, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. She was born April 29, 1917, in Elwood, Pa., to the late George Edward and Clara Etta (Williams) Miller.
Mrs. Weaver was a business and professional women. She graduated from Newark High School, was a member of God's Church, and a member of the Licking County Historical Society.
She is survived by her three children, William E. (Patricia) Weaver, Robert C. (Claudia) Weaver, and Ruth Weaver, all of Newark; brothers, Gerald Miller, and John (Jane) Miller, both of Newark; grandchildren, Wesley, Sam, and Seth Weaver; Megan Hofacker; David, Amy, Jonathan, and Christina Glasmeier; and great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Zoe, Addy, and Hailey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, C. Edward Miller, and Donald Miller; and her great-grandchild Brandon Weaver.

Hazel F. O'Flaherty

A visitation for Hazel F. O'Flaherty, 90, of Newark, will be held at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 22, 2003.
Hazel died Dec. 20, 2003 at the LPN Health Care Facility. She was born on April 5, 1913 to the late Frank Benjamin and Cutie Corella Jenkins in Hanover, Ohio.
Hazel is survived by her son, Patrick (Judy) O'Flaherty of Delaware, Ohio; daughters, Janis Price of Newark and Maureen Knight of Johnstown; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David William O'Flaherty; brother, Emerson Jenkins; and sisters, May Ardrey and Mildred Priest.

Janice E. Payne

A funeral service for Janice E. Payne, 64, of Johnstown, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, with Pastor Mike Schlaegel officiating. Burial will be in Hartford Cemetery, Croton.
Mrs. Payne died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Mount Carmel East Hospital. She was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Croton, to the late Lester and Ruth Blagg Seville.
She retired from Northview Senior Living Center, and graduated from the Johnstown-Monroe High School in the class of 1958.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ned A. Payne of Johnstown; one son, Mike Payne of Johnstown; one daughter, Shelly Payne of Johnstown; two brothers, Lester (Lenora) Seville and Charlie (Linda) Seville, both of Newark; two sisters, Pam (Tom) Piper and Ruth (Jerry) Berry, both of Johnstown; and two grandchildren, Tiffani and Brandon Payne.
She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Payne; and one brother, John Seville.

Nancy Blair Pugh

A funeral service for Nancy Blair Pugh, 72, of Harbor Hills, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kirkersville Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with the Rev. Wesley Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
Mrs. Pugh, a member of the Hebron United Methodist Church and an active member of her community, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born April 22, 1931, in Chester, W.Va., to the late Andrew and Edna (McHenry) Blair.
Mrs. Pugh was a graduate of West Liberty College in West Virginia. She was retired from Newark City Schools, where she had been a teacher.
Surviving are her husband, George Pugh; son, Blair Pugh of Dansville, N.Y.; daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Rick Gallant of Wellsboro, Pa., Jody and Keith Weidner of New Mexico, and Beth and Denny McNamara of Granville; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Allen Blair of Imperial Beach, Calif.
In addition to her parents, two brothers and one sister are deceased.

Arvelva Ward

A funeral service for Arvelva Ward, 95, of Columbus, will be held at noon Tuesday at the Chesnut Grove Enterprise Baptist Church (off of 23 S. in Lowmansville, Ky.), with the Rev. Chester Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park.
Mrs. Ward passed away at The Woodlands on Dec. 20, 2003. She was born to the late Willis and Margaret Debord Skaggs on Feb. 17, 1908, in Lowmansville, Ky.
She was a member of the Chesnut Grove Enterprise Baptist Church in her hometown.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy (Dennis) Butler of Pataskala; six grandchildren, Phyllis, Linda, Connie, Ruby, Sondra and Barb, all of Columbus; 13 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Ward; one daughter, Ruth Combs; and one son, Orville Ward; and 11 brothers and sisters.
