A funeral service for Betty L. Welch, 82, of Newark, formerly of Granville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville, with the Rev. Stephen J. Cramer officiating. Burial will follow in Fredonia Cemetery in Granville.
Mrs. Welch died Jan. 24, 2004, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Newark. She was born Sept. 10, 1921, in McKean Township, to the late Hazel (Albery) and Thomas Davies and was raised by her grandparents, Mary and John Albery.
Mrs. Welch was a 1939 graduate of Granville High School and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Connie S. and Robert T. Westbrook, of Newark; grandsons, Michael R. Westbrook and his wife, Christine, of Newark and Brian C. Westbrook and his wife, Christy, of Newark; one great-grandson; and sisters-in-law, Gladys Durkin, of Heath, and Beverly Cordray, of Newark.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert B. Welch, who died Jan. 19, 2000, and her twin brother, Robert Davies.

Shirley T. Gill
March 21, 1937-Feb. 1, 2004
A funeral service for Shirley T. Gill, 66, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
Mrs. Gill, a homemaker, died Feb. 1, 2004, at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was born March 21, 1937, in Bruno, W.Va., to the late Harmon and Deminitie (Christian) Ellis.
Mrs. Gill and her husband owned the Arcade Corner Mall in Newark for nearly 10 years. She was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church. She enjoyed flowers and gardening and loved her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 31 years, James L. Gill; children and their spouses, Kay and Roger Smith, Rhonda and Charles Rodgers and Jimmie Goodman, all of Newark; grandchildren, Bobby (Erin) Goodman, Misty (Patrick) Dowling, Natasha McClain, Joey Lilly, Kylie Bazler, Phenix Renner, Justin Goodman, Tabitha Bazler, Charley Rodgers and Christopher Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Sydney Payne Dowling and Cyrus Aidan Dowling; sisters and brothers-in-law, Opal Blankenship of Bruno, W.Va., Barb and Fred Newman of Hurricane, W.Va., Wanda and Larry Site of Baltimore, Md., BK and Mike Roberts of Chapmanville, W.Va., Sandy and Michael Bailey of Accoville, W.Va., and Sharron and Wade Halfield of Virginia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Buddy and Shelby Ellis of Bruno, W.Va., Larry Ellis of St. Petersburg, Fla., Danny Ellis and Jack and Sue Ellis, all of Newark, Harold and Lynn Ellis of Accoville, W.Va., Harmon Ellis Jr. of Niber, W.Va., Ricki Ellis of Bruno, W.Va., and Mike Ellis of Chapmanville, W.Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Edmond G. 'Mac' MacFerren
June 5, 1912-Feb. 2, 2004
A graveside funeral service for Edmond G. "Mac" MacFerren, 91, of 177 S. Main St., Newark, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hanover Cemetery, with the Rev. Jefferey Mercer officiating.
Mr. MacFerren died Monday morning, Feb. 2, 2004, at his home. Born June 5, 1912, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late Oscar and Clara MacFerren.
Mac was a retired maintenance man with the Ohio National Guard and was a life member of the Zanesville Eagles.
Surviving are two stepsons, Galen G. (Ruth) Rouanzoin and Lowell "Bill" (Frances) Rouanzoin, both of Newark; one sister, Clara Hopkins of Newark; nine stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Irene (Harrison) MacFerren, whom he married June 19, 1956, and who died April 24, 1994; a stepdaughter, Donna Hoskinson; three brothers, his twin, William, George and Oscar; a stepbrother, Jess Stutz; a sister, Marie Micklethwaite; a stepsister, Betty Porter; and one grandchild.
There will be no calling hours.

Timothy A. Clifford
Oct. 22, 1924-Jan. 31, 2004
A funeral service for Timothy A. Clifford, 79, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home, with the Rev. William J. Rauch officiating. Longtime friend of the Clifford family, Jay Barker, will deliver a special memory to both Tim and Esther Clifford. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Clifford, a retired president of Licking Laundry from 1961 to 1981, died Jan. 31, 2004, at his residence. He was born Oct. 22, 1924, to the late A.L. and Helen W. (Dunlap) Clifford.
In the early 1950s, prior to moving to Newark, he worked for the Lazarus Store in downtown Columbus. Following Mr. Clifford's retirement from Licking Laundry, he was a consultant for Buckeye Linen Service. He also worked for K-Mart, Central Trust, Bank One, and Park National Bank. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing and casinos. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on the Sullivans 537.
He is survived by his son, William "Bill" Clifford of the home; sister, Helen (Robert) George of Noblesville, Ind.; and two stepsons, Robert (Sarah) Donley of Grove City, and James (Cynthia) Donley of Pataskala.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther M. (Schultz) Clifford, who died on Dec. 20, 2003; and one brother, John Clifford.

Jerry Pikula
March 6, 1925-Jan. 31, 2004
A funeral service for Jerry Pikula, 78, of Newark, will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert L. Knox officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in the Westwood Abbey Mausoleum in North Olmsted, Ohio.
Jerry died Jan. 31, 2004, at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus. He was born March 6, 1925, in Czechoslovakia, to the late Louis and Mildred Pikula Sr., emigrating to the U.S. in 1939.
Jerry married Dorothy Bauer on July 8, 1950. After living in the Cleveland area for several years, Jerry and his family moved to the Newark area in 1973. He retired from Dow Chemical (Licking River Plant) as a senior mechanical engineer in 1989. Jerry served in the RAF during World War II.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy "Dot" Pikula; son, Dan (Pat) Pikula of Gahanna; daughter, Diane (Mike) Stricklan of Powell; grandsons, Jason and Gary Pikula of Gahanna; brother, Dr. Louis (Betty) Pikula of Winston-Salem, N.C.; nephews, Lou and Jamie Pikula of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and niece, Chrissy Bass of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Russell Eugene Cooperrider

A funeral service for Russell Eugene Cooperrider, 79, of Glenford, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Boring-Sheridan Funeral Home, Thornville Chapel, with Pastor Steven Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Glenford.
Russell passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at his residence. Born April 1, 1924, in Glenford, to the late Ralph D. and Esta Mae (Orr) Cooperrider, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Glenford and worked as a farmer.
Russell was a member of the Tri-State Tractor Association & Gas Engines of Portland, Ind., Stumptown Steam Threshers Association of Stumptown, and an avid gas engine collector for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Hazel Clara (Justice) Cooperrider; daughters Linda (Bob) Wolfe and Carol Garrett, both of Columbus, and Joyce (Paul) Ford of Pickerington; son, Jim (Rose) Cooperrider of Hebron; daughter-in-law, Ann Cooperrider of Thornville; grandchildren, Jason Cooperrider of Sugar Grove, Tim and Jack Cooperrider of Thornville, David Johnson of Carroll, Holly Johnson of Pickerington, and John Ford of Lancaster; great-grandchildren, Anna and J. J. Cooperrider of Thornville, Kala, Elijah and Gabriel Cooperrider of Sugar Grove; sister, Marie Morehead of Zanesville; and special friends, Denny Swingley, Joe LoFink and Robert Deist.

Nathaniel Lowry Howlett

A funeral service for infant Nathaniel Lowry Howlett, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2486 Newark-Granville Road, with Jeff Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Nathaniel was born on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, to Wayne P. and Mollyanne (Johnston) Howlett of Newark. He passed away on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the OSU Medical Center in Columbus.
Survivors include his parents; sister, Kierstin Marie Howlett; brother, Jonathon Gifford Howlett; maternal grandparents, Joseph G. and Marilyn V. Johnston of Newark; paternal grandparents, Grant S. and Patricia M. Howlett of Columbus; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

John H. Bell

There will be no public services observed for John H. Bell, 81, of Utica, who died Jan. 29, 2004, at the Utica Care Center. Burial will be held at a later date in Bell Church Cemetery.
Mr. Bell was born March 1, 1922, in Licking County, to the late Ernest A. and Florence (Mason) Bell.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Army's tank division.
He is survived by his daughters, Margaret and Catherine; brother, Sidney Bell of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and sister, Betty Rusk of Newark.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Sherman and Gladys Kaufman.
Lena 'Kate' Sesser
June 28, 1915-Feb. 1, 2004
A funeral service for Lena "Kate" Sesser, 88, of Johnstown, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, with Dan Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Lock Cemetery, Centerburg.
Lena died at Northview Senior Living Center on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004. She was born to the late Bernard and Neva Pearl Lovell on June 28, 1915, in Homer.
She is survived by her three children, Dolores (Roger) Priest and Margaret (Paul) Priest, all of Johnstown, and Harley (Cathy) Sesser Jr. of Croton; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harley J. Sesser Sr.; one brother; one sister; and two grandchildren.
