Helen L. Fay-Wilson

Nov. 10, 1921-Aug. 4, 2002

A graveside service for Helen L. Wilson, 80, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Newark Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Randy Small officiating.

Mrs. Wilson, a member of the Protestant faith, died Aug. 4, 2002, in Tucson, Ariz. She was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Newark, to the late Floyd O. and Bertha (Thompson) Young.

She is survived by a son, Larry Fay of Huron; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Edgar Hoskinson and Lula B. and Don Miller, all of Arizona; three granddaughters, Laurie Wasley, Lisa Schaffer, and Lana Olindeck; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Marion "Mike" Fay, in 1983; second husband, Glen F. Wilson, in 1987; and four brothers, Hilburn, Carl, Robert, and Hershcel Young.

Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn E. Bodey

Aug. 9, 1918-Aug. 7, 2002

A funeral service for Kathryn E. Bodey, 83, formerly of Piqua, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. James R. Christy officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bodey, who graduated from Miami University and attended the University Dayton, died Aug. 7, 2002, at the Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Newark, to the late Clarence and Eleanor G. (Linn) Cunningham.

Mrs. Bodey retired in 1983 from the Covington Board of Education following 22 years of teaching math and science. She was a member of the former Evangelical United Methodist Church, the Miami County Retired Teachers Association, the Order of the Ameranth, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 320, and past Worthy Priestess of the White Shrine.

She is survived by a daughter, Sheryl S. Bodey of Piqua; son, Jerry L. Bodey of Piqua; two grandchildren, Elizabeth G. Bodey and Jennifer D. Bodey; sister, Mary Elizabeth Cunningham of Newark; and brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Barbara Cunningham of Newark.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Bodey, whom she married on Oct. 31, 1945, and died on May 10, 2002; one sister; and one brother.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home in Piqua, where an Order of Eastern Star service will be held at 1 p.m.

Jean M. Smith

July 5, 1921-Aug. 6, 2002

There will be no service or calling hours observed for Jean M. Smith, 81, of Newark. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Aug. 6, 2002, at the Arlington Nursing Home. She was born July 5, 1921, in Newark, to the late Asa and Leota (Wolf) Young.

She is survived by a son, Kent Smith of Newark; and grandson, Howie Smith of Newark.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Smith, who died Nov. 23, 1982; and a sister, Reba Drumm, who died in 1999.

Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Murdock

April 20, 1912-Aug. 11, 2002

A funeral service for Robert L. Murdock, 90, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Millikan Throckmorton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 24 at the Granville First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Murdock, a retired butcher with Acme Market in Waynesburg, Pa., died Aug. 11, 2002, at the LPN Healthcare Center. He was born April 20, 1912, in Waynesburg, to the late Zachariah "Ted" and Clara (Davis) Murdock.

Mr. Murdock served in the Army during World War II and had a special interest in charity shows with the Lions Club. He was past president of the Waynesburg Lions Club and a member of the Elks, American Legion and Masonic Lodge of Waynesburg.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sue Murdock of Heath; daughter-in-law, Louise Murdock of Rhode Island; grandchildren, Steven Kelly Murdock and Kimberly Throckmorton, both of Waynesburg, and Kristy Kramer of Middletown, Pa.; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sue (William) Throckmorton of Waynesburg, and Iona Fisher of California.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mae Phillips Murdock, in October of 2001; son, R. Terry Murdock; and brother, John Murdock.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Waynesburg, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Granville First Presbyterian Church Parish Care, 110 W. Broadway, Granville, Ohio 43023.

Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, 179 Granville St., Newark, is in charge of local arrangements.

Cody Ryan Burns

Aug. 9, 2002

A graveside service for Cody Ryan Burns, infant son of Willard and Mary Burns of St. Louisville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Newark Memorial Gardens.

Cody Ryan died Aug. 9, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Steven and Billy Burns, of the home; and sister, Heather Burns, of the home.

No calling hours will be observed.

Chester Leland Snyder

May 21, 1933-Aug. 11, 2002

A graveside service for Chester Leland Snyder, 69, a long time resident of Croton, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hartford Cemetery in Croton with Kenneth Larimore officiating.

Mr. Snyder, who served in the U.S. Army and retired from Nestle's where he worked for 35 years, died Aug. 11, 2002, at his home after an extended period with cancer. He was born May 21, 1933, to the late Harry and Lillie Snyder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Cheryl; great-granddaughter, Rylie Elizabeth Hammond; and brother, Frank.

He is survived by his sons, John (Tim) of Croton, Gary of Spring Grove, Pa., and Eric (Darla) of Croton; daughter, Carol (Rick) Strahsburg of Croton; grandchildren, Stacie (Brock) Berkley of Newark, Aimee (Brian) Shaub of Johnstown, Zachery, Eric John (EJ) and Jordan Snyder of Croton; great-grandchildren, Hailee and Brice Shaub of Johnstown, and Kaela Berkley of Newark; sister, Gloria (Bill) Larimore; brother, Kenneth (Ruth) Snyder of Centerburg; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Hospice of Central Ohio, 1984-A Coffman Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.

J. Pearl Boylan

June 20, 1918-Aug. 12, 2002

A funeral service for J. Pearl Boylan, 84, formerly of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Vensil-Orr Funeral Home with Pastor Jeffery Pound and Pastor Jerry Boylan officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Boylan, a former employee of the Ohio Plastics Company of Frazeysburg, died Aug. 12, 2002, at the Elmwood Nursing Home, Green Springs, Ohio. She was born June 20, 1918, in Martinsburg, to the late Walter J. and Orpha C. (Strain) Frye.

Mrs. Boylan retired in 1978 from the Larson Saw Company. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Tiffin, and a former member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Granville. She was also a former member of the Eager Beavers Senior Citizens of Hanover.

She is survived by three sons, Earl "Bud" (Phyllis) Boylan of Newark, Donald (Kris) Boylan of Columbus, and Jerry L. (Debbie) Boylan of Tiffin; daughter, Susie (Pete) McClellan of Brookville, Fla.; three sisters, Merle Chadwell, Ada Hughes of Newark, and Ruth (Ray) Gantt of Utica; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Boylan, whom she married on June 1, 1940, and who died on June 23, 1992; two brothers, Harley and Clyde Frye; and one sister, Mary Rodriguez.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 110 W. Third St., Frazeysburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Church, 161 N. Ohio 101, Tiffin, Ohio 44883. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Grace Rice Skeens

July 28, 1929-Aug. 2, 2002

A funeral service for Grace Rice Skeens, 73, of Louisa, Ky., was held on Aug. 5 at the Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louisa, Ky. Burial followed in Rose Hill Burial Park, Ashland, Ky.

Mrs. Skeens, a homemaker, died Aug. 2, 2002. She was born July 28, 1929, in Ashland, Ky., to the late Dave and Mary (Riffe) Rice.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Linda) Gregg and Mrs. William (Sandra) Saad, both of Newark; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Madge Skeens of Newark; and two brothers, Bert Rice of Fort Peirce, Fla., and Glen Rice of Ashland, Ky.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Skeens Jr., who died in 2000.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Hospice of Louisa.
