Leta Bentley

Oct. 1, 1919-Aug. 27, 2002

Funeral services and burial for Leta Bentley, 82, a Newark resident for 12 years, will take place at a later date in Powell, Wyo.

Mrs. Bentley died Aug. 27, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Kearney, Neb., to the late Perry J. and Rose E. (Hevlin) Wollam.

Mrs. Bentley lived most her life in Powell. She was employed as a secretary in the Powell school system. In 1984, she retired from the Carnation Company in Los Angeles, Calif., after 20 years. While in Newark, she was active in Zerger Hall.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Susan K. (Richard D.) Stevens of Granville, Debbie J. (Morris) Terry of Powell, and Carolyn L. (Thomas) Fletcher of Rexburg, Idaho; son, Greg A. Bentley of Powell; brother, Jay (Esther) Wollam of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Flossie Wollam of Powell; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Silas Bentley, in 1952; brother, Ray Wollam; sisters, Lila Wollam Nunnelly and Neva Wollam Litton; and daughter-in-law, Von McNeil Bentley.

Kenneth Leroy Null

Oct. 29, 1940-Aug. 22, 2002

A graveside service for Kenneth Leroy Null, 61, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Smith Chapel Cemetery in Newark.

Mr. Null died Aug. 22, 2002. He was born Oct. 29, 1940, in Toledo, to the late Harry B. and Stella (Raydum) Null.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth Leroy (Leslie) Null Jr. of Toledo; daughter, LeAnn Marie (Jeff) Hoag of Toledo; grandchildren, Jeff and Joey Hoag, Chelsea, Courtney and Stephanie Null; brothers, Harry B. "Sonny" Null and Johnny Null; sisters, Patricia "Sis" Stoneking, Diane Isreal, Shirley Sniadecki and Elaine Cartner; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

A memorial prayer mass will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at Little Flower Catholic Church, 5522 Dorr St., Toledo.

Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Philip A. Wickline

Oct. 12, 1951-Aug. 27, 2002

A funeral service for Philip A. Wickline, 50, of Grove City, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Sheridan Funeral Home of Lancaster with the Rev. Charles Thomas Snedeker officiating. Burial will follow in Hamburg Cemetery, where the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail will provide a military graveside service.

Mr. Wickline, who was a forklift operator for Samuel Strapping System Inc., died Aug. 27, 2002, at his residence. He was born Oct. 12, 1951, in Gallipolis, to the late Earl and Galena (Halley) Wickline.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his brothers, David Earl Wickline of Grove City, Steven A. (Carol) and Timothy R. (Debbie) Wickline both of Newark; sisters, Shelba A. (Bill) Stebleton of Lancaster and Dolly (Ray) Young of Huron; and 14 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and John; sister, Connie; three nephews; and one niece.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, 222 S. Columbus St., Lancaster.

Arkley L. Bruce

Dec. 27, 1928-Aug. 23, 2002

A funeral service for Arkley L. Bruce, 73, of Heath, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastor James Kane officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.

Bruce died Aug. 23, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. Bruce was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Whitley County, Ky.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio.

Lee J. Snider

Nov. 25, 1952-Aug. 27, 2002

A funeral service for Lee J. Snider, 49, of Newark, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home Chapel and Crematory in Lancaster, with Chaplain Karl Hartmann officiating. Cremation will follow.

Snider died Aug. 27, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1952, in Lancaster.

He is survived by three brothers, Randy (Sharon) Snider, Larry Parkinson, and Clarence "Bud" Parkinson, all of Junction City; three sisters, Sandy Snider, Amy (Bob) Meckley, all of Buckeye Lake, and Penny (Greg) Keith of Glouster; niece; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ruby and Clarence Parkinson and Lee Snider.

Friends may call one hour prior to the Friday service.

Memorial gifts may be given to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.

Norman Monroe Pelton

Aug. 28, 2002

Funeral arrangements for Norman Monroe Pelton, 58, of Utica, are incomplete. Mr. Pelton died Aug. 28, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.

Howard Gilbert "Gib" Ludwig Sr.

March 23, 1938-Sept. 2, 2002

A funeral service for Howard Gilbert "Gib" Ludwig Sr., 64, of Thornville, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at The Old Country Church, with Pastor Charles Thomas Snedeker officiating. Burial will follow in Oakhill Cemetery, Franklin Township, on Ohio 668.

Mr. Ludwig died Sept. 2, 2002, at his residence. He was born March 23, 1938, in Mount Pleasant, Ohio, to the late Oliver James and Mary (Martin) Ludwig.

Mr. Ludwig was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked at Ralston Purina in Lancaster and Charles E. Schuler Engineering in Newark. He was a minister at The Old Country Church in Newark, having been ordained in 1999. He was a member of the Shriners of Licking County, Masonic Bodies and Scottish Rite in Thornville, and a Kentucky Colonel. He also enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, playing guitar music, especially gospel, and dressing up as "Gippy the Clown" and entertaining hundreds of children by making balloon animals.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sandra S. (Weaver) Ludwig; daughters, Tami Lee (Mike Powell) Ludwig of Thornville, Tammy Lynn (Mark) Craig of Newark, Sherry L. (David) Day and Billie Sue (Albert "AJ") Johnson of Heath; sons, Howard (Gwen Ramsey) Ludwig of Newark, Ed (Kathy) Ludwig of New Mexico, Mike (Deanna) Ludwig of Utica, and John D. Johnson II of Florida; 29 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Olive (George) Braught of Newark, and Donna Weekley of Heath; brother-in-law, Jim Lybarger; father-in-law, William "Bill" Weaver of Buckeye Lake; brother and sister-in-law, John (Barb) Weaver of Newark; several nieces and nephews; and faithful companion, Suzie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Weekly, Gertrude Lybarger and Carol Brush; brother, Robert Ludwig; grandson, Donald "Buzzy" Newell; and mother-in-law, Della Weaver.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 101 S. Fifth St., Newark.

Geneva R. Mays

Oct. 14, 1920-Aug. 31, 2002

A funeral service for Geneva R. Mays, 81, of Albany, Ind., will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Parson-Rust Funeral Home. Interment without committal services will take place in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Mrs. Mays died Aug. 31, 2002, at her son's home in Muncie, Ind. She was born Oct. 14, 1920, in Muncie, Ind., to the late Clifford and Eva Jane Smith.

Mrs. Mays graduated from Yorktown High School with the class of 1939 and had lived in Newark before coming back to Albany where she resided for several years. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Albany United Church of Christ as well as a member of 20th Century Club and Gideons International.

She is survived by three sons, Merrill (Connie) Mays of Westminster, Colo., Keith (Kim) Mays of Muncie, Ind., and Neil (Linda) Mays of Sanibel Island, Fla.; two granddaughters, Heather Knight of Austin, Texas, and Tonya (Alex) Oren of Parker City, Ind.; two great-grandsons, Zachary Oren and Jordan Oren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Herschel Mays; three brothers, Glendon Smith, Byron Smith and Kenneth Smith; and sister, Carol Jean Crail.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 648 W. State St., Albany, Ind.
