Marjorie A. Slade, 63, of Newark, died Sept. 28, 2002, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio. She will be cremated and the ashes buried at a later date in Bridgeport, W.Va.
Mrs. Slade was a member of the Southgate Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Sean Brown of Chillicothe and Vance Brown of Newark.

Richard R. Delancey
June 15, 1926-Oct. 1, 2002
A funeral service for Richard R. Delancey, 76, of Frazeysburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Vensil-Orr Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will follow in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
Mr. Delancey, an Army veteran of World War II, died Oct. 1, 2002, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born June 15, 1926, in Newark, to the late Russell and Margaret (Thompson) Delancey. He was raised by his later grandmother, Elizabeth Delancey.
Mr. Delancey retired in 1987 after 39 years of service as a brakeman with the B & O Railroad and the Chessie System Railroad. He was a member of the American Legion Post 85, the Eagles 387 and the UTU Railroaders Union 0404, all of Newark.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Mary A. (Simpson) Delancey, whom he married on Oct. 23, 1948; five daughters, Judy Romine and her fiance, Mike Sellers of Brownsville, Cindy Gill of Frazeysburg, Theresa (Dan) Mell of Zanesville, Shirley Delancey of Marne and Diane (Casey) Baker of Duncan Falls, Ohio; two sisters, Margaret Delancey of Orgonia, Ohio, and Millie (Carl) DeBlasio of Newark; two brothers, Howard (Jean) Delancey of Heath and Jerry (Janice) Delancey of Alabama; stepsister, Irene (James) McGee of Pataskala; stepbrother, Horace Campbell of Newark; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; special cousins, Ann and Bob Sears of Newark; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, his dog, Molly.
In addition to his parents and grandmother, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a brother, Robert Delancey.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 110 W. Third St., Frazeysburg.

Betty Jane Gunnerson

A memorial service for Betty Jane Gunnerson will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with the Rev. Craig Jones officiating.
Mrs. Gunnerson died Sept. 23, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1928, in Evansville, Ind., to the late John and Elizabeth Kathryn (Waller) Thompson.
A 1946 graduate of Morris, Illinois High School, she earned her degree in pharmacy from the University of Illinios, in Chicago, in 1950 and passed her boards as a registered pharmacist. She began her pharmacy career in Champaign, Ill., and then moved to Newark with her husband, Don, and worked for Arensberg Pharmacy until retirement in 1992.
As a member of the First United Methodist Church for 50 years, she was also a member of the Chancel Guild. She was a member of the Lamda Kappa Sigma Pharmacy Sorority. She was also involved in many community activities: she was a member of the Twentieth Century Club, Monday Talks, Soroptomists Club, Twig #9, P.T.A., two-term member of the Licking Memorial Hospital Board, Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, Licking County Pharmaceutical Association, Ohio Pharmacists Association and American Pharmaceutical Association. She received numerous pharmacy awards and mentored several student pharmacists.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Don; son and daughter-in-law, Jon Erik and Irene Gunnerson; and their children, Jessica Irene and Alexander Jon of Houston, Texas; brother, Robert M. (Arlene) Thompson of Morris, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Jack (Jayne) Thompson; and aunt, Elizabeth Thompson.
She will be remembered by many as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, professional pharmacist, community person, friend and lover of wire-hair fox terriers.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.

Stephen "Steve" M. Hoar
Nov. 16, 1944-Oct. 1, 2002
A Mass of Christian burial for Stephen "Steve" M. Hoar, 57, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Newark, with the Rev. Dean Mathewson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Hoar died Oct. 1, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 16, 1944, in Boston, Mass., to the late Louis M. and Linda Blanche (Corey) Hoar.
Mr. Hoar was a retired major for the U.S.A.F. and worked on the support staff for the Newark Air Force Base. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Good Measure Folk Choir, and a former member of the Parish Council. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagle Scout, District Commissioner of Simon Kenton Council, Boy Scouts of America, Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 4, former Scoutmaster Troop 8, member of the Newark Zoning Commission, 20-20 Planning Commission and N.A.R.F.E.
Mr. Hoar was the proficiency tutor and technology coordinator at Newark Catholic High School, where he developed Web pages for Newark Catholic High School, St. Francis de Sales and Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy L. (Raterman) Hoar; son, Andrew M. Hoar of Newark; daughter and son-in-law, Shannon M. (Jason) Harlkemeyer of Cincinnati; grandson, Nathan P. Harlkemeyer; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James R. (Linda) Hoar of Austin, Texas, and Edward F. (Sylvia) Hoar of Centerville; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann (David) Bayer of Appleton, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 N. Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Hand Bell Fund or Boy Scouts of America.
Rita M. Sesser
May 27, 1952-Sept. 30, 2002
A memorial service for Rita M. Sesser, 50, of Utica, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica, with the Rev. Doug Sweet officiating. Inurnment will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Sesser, who retired from D.C.S.C. in Columbus, died Sept. 30, 2002, at her residence. She was born May 27, 1952, in Ironton, Ohio, to Mary M. (Jenkins) Murnahan of Scottown, Ohio, and the late Robert E. Murnahan.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Marion L. Sesser; daughter, Angela Dawn Sesser of Gahanna; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Debbie and Jack Lester of Somerset; daughter-in-law, Ruby Sesser of Newark; stepsons, Cliff Sesser, Randy Sesser and Kenny Sesser, all of Newark; brother and sister-in-law, Robert E. and Terri Murnahan of Westerville; sisters and brother-in-law, Thelma and Fred Cartmell of Reynoldsburg, and Nora Welch of Huntington, W.Va.; four stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carl E. Murnahan.

Eugene "Gene" Leo Lamp
May 4, 1923-Sept. 30, 2002
A funeral service for Eugene "Gene" Leo Lamp, 79, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Newark Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with Pastor Walter Bruah and Lay Pastor Robert Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be observed.
Mr. Lamp, who retired from Kaiser Aluminum in 1982, died Sept. 30, 2002, at the Dayton VA Medical Center. He was born May 4, 1923, in St. Mary's, W.Va., to the late Arthur and Sara (Wilson) Lamp.
Mr. Lamp was a World War II veteran and former POW serving in the Rainbow Division. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edna May (Wilson) Lamp; sons, Roger (Connie) Lamp and Danny (June) Lamp, both of Newark; daughters, Linda (Charles) Bruah of Newark and Sandy (James) Dial of Mount Vernon; brother, Denzil (Carolyn) Lamp of Vienna, W.Va.; sister, Helen Barnhart of Fallensbee, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; and two great-grandchildren.
No calling hours will be observed.

A memorial service for Bill Shomaker, 55, of Grape Creek, Texas, formerly of Ohio, will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Shaffer Funeral Home, 8009 Highway 87 N., San Angelo, Texas.
Mr. Shomaker died Sept. 29, 2002, at his residence.
He is survived by his children, William D. Shomaker of Utica, Delvin L. Shomaker, Walter F. Shomaker, Delbert L. Shomaker, and Linda L. Shomaker, all of Grape Creek, Texas; mother, Marjorie Shomaker of Utica; brothers, Dave Shomaker and John Shomaker, both of Newark, and Kevin Shomaker of Paul, Idaho; sisters, Marvin Shomaker of San Angelo, Texas, Mary Lewis and Martha Bennett, both of Newark, Marjorie Elkins of Thornville and Frances Driver of Flagstaff, Ariz.
