Giles R. Clayton

A funeral service for Giles R. Clayton, 70, of Centerburg, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, with Dan Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford Cemetery.
Mr. Clayton, a former Licking County trustee, died Oct. 1, 2002, at his residence. He was born May 20, 1932, in Sunbury, to the late Harvey and Virgie Hubbard Clayton.
Mr. Clayton retired from North American-Rockwell, and was the owner of Giles Clayton Real Estate and Auctioneer Co. He was a member of the Ohio Harness Horseman Association and a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict.
He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda (Rephard) Reed of Centerburg and Cherie (Ed) Green of Galena; son, Randy (Diana) Clayton of Centerburg; mother, Cora Clayton of Sunbury; special friend, Bonnie Hon of Centerburg; two brothers; four sisters; one granddaughter, Brandy Lippert of Johnstown; one great-granddaughter, Rachel Lippert; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeneanne Clayton; and one brother.

Marjorie Marie Melick

A graveside service for Marjorie Marie Melick, 83, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Newark Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Robert Knox officiating.
Mrs. Melick, who had been a nurse's aide for the former Newark Hospital, died Oct. 2, 2002, at the Arlington Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 9, 1918, in Morgan County, to the late Alvin and Emma (Persinger) Wade.
She is survived by her daughter, Dixie Pitt of Newark; sons, Forrest and Jeanette Melick of Granville, and Robert R. and Bev Melick of Marne; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Emma Jean Patterson of Granville, and Helen Melick of Utica.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Ross Melick, on Jan. 25, 1977; daughter, Betty JoAnn Roberts, on Sept. 10, 2002; and two brothers, Ovia Wade and Art Mechling.

Lucille Marie Eagle

A Mass of Christian burial for Lucille Marie Eagle, 93, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Monsignor Paul Enke officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Ms. Eagle died Oct. 1, 2002, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. She was born Dec. 16, 1908, in Detroit, Mich., to the late Joseph Schmitt and Mary (Beaubien) Schmitt.
Ms. Eagle was a graduate of the first licensed pratical nurse class of Michigan. She worked for 20 years at Mercy Hospital in Bay City, Mich., before retiring to Granville with her husband in 1968. She was a member of St. Edward Church and Fruit of the Vine Prayer Group of Newark.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette (Harry) Mintz of Granville; son and daughter-in-law, Howard J. (Susan) Eagle of Bay City, Mich.; grandchildren, Theresa (Mintz) Allen of Granville, Howard S. Eagle of Bay City, Mich., Jennifer (Eagle) D'Abreau of Cuyahoga Falls, Maryann Eagle of Bay City, Mich., and Melissa (Eagle) Uhlmann of Rochester, Minn.; sister, Louise Malloy of Centerline, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Christopher Allen, Howard D. and Zachary Eagle, Stephen, Jeremy, Matthew and Joshua D'Abreau, and Oliva and Joseph Uhlmann; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard D. Eagle, in 1987; and four brothers.

John A. Merritts
A funeral service for John A. Merritts, 75, of Johnstown, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the O.R. Woodyard Co. Chapel, with the Rev. Don Gutmein officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Johnstown.
He is survived by a son, John (Karen) Merritts Jr. of Columbus; daughters, Sharon (Dennis) Dill of Delaware, and Pamela (John) Bell of Mount Gilead; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Merritts.

Louise Williams Ream

A celebration of life service for Louise Williams Ream, 87, of Lewis Center, formerly of Newark and Reynoldsburg, will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington Chapel.
Mrs. Ream, a longtime secretary for the Reynoldsburg Athletic Boosters, died Oct. 1, 2002.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis L. (David) Hess of Lewis Center; son, Roger H. (Susan) Ream of Riva, Md.; granddaughter, Teresa (Michael) Rice; grandsons, Bradley, Douglas (Kimberly) Hess, Matthew (Joleen) and Brian (Joy) Ream; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Natalie, Patrick, Nick, Melissa, Sierra and Savannah; and cousin, Harley (Mary) Budd.
Mrs. Ream was charter member of the Newark Heisey Collectors Club, founded in 1969, and its second president. In 1971, this club formed the National Club, Heisey Collectors of America, Inc. She was HCA's first president and continued in that capacity until June of 1981 when she became the first executive director of the museum. In January 1987, her title was changed to museum curator. She was editor of the Heisey News from 1972 until she retired in July 1990. She was also the former president of the Far East Heisey Club, member of the Newark HCC and 76'ers HCC and a board member of the Heisey Collectors of America.
Mrs. Ream was commissioned as a Kentucky colonel in May of 1976. She was also an avid OSU women's basketball fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Leah Williams; husband, Russell W. Ream; and sister, Ruth Perloff.

Mr. Rowe, who is survived by his wife, Beverly (Hope) Rowe, died Aug. 9, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service for Kaieden Brante Smith, infant son of Ron and Danielle (Hostetler) Smith of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown, with the Rev. Paul Gerycz officiating.
Kaieden Brante was stillborn on Sept. 28, 2002, at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Jeff and Marlene Hostetler of West Lafayette, Sue Bradford of Newark, and Robert Smith of Duluth, Minn.; great-grandparents, Dorothy and Phillip Hostetler of Newcomerstown, Frances Durben of West Lafayette, Lyle and Dorothy Doll of Newark, and Max Smith of Newark; two brothers, Braeden and Koleten Smith; half-sister, Kirstie Smith; and half-brother, Konor Smith.

Ora L. Weiss

A funeral service for Ora L. Weiss, 84, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, where military services will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Weiss, a farmer and factory worker with the Roper Corp., died Oct. 1, 2002, at the Heath Health Care Center. He was born Sept. 17, 1918, in Newark, to the late Isaac and Myrtle (Pound) Weiss.
Mr. Weiss served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by a son, Ora Weiss of Newark; daughters, Maria and Dave Burris of Hanover, and Louise Weiss of Newark; grandchildren, Rhonda and Ron Ross of Heath, and Tracy Bailey and her fiance Gino of Pataskala; and great-grandchild, Cameron Ross of Newark.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Lufaso) Weiss, in September 2001; twin sons; four brothers; and five sisters.
