A memorial service for Thelma L. Hupp, 90, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 6004 Linnville Road, Newark, with Pastor Paul Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery.
Mrs. Hupp, a homemaker and member of St. John's Lutheran Church, died Oct. 8, 2002, at the LPN Healthcare Facility. She was born May 9, 1912, in Brownsville, to the late Isaac and Florence (Courson) Gutridge.
Mrs. Hupp was a graduate of Brownsville High School.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ross I. Hupp; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Phyllis Hupp of Sanford, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Edward Tompkins of Buckeye Lake; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Ruth Gutridge; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Clarice Covert; and two brothers.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, prior to the service at the church.

Wanda Lee Neeley
A memorial service for Wanda Lee Neeley, 55, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of God of Prophecy, 3462 Austin Drive, Willard, with the Rev. Anthony Cooper officiating.
Interment of ashes will take place following the service at Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven.

Ellen Watson
March 29, 1914-Oct. 9, 2002
A Mass of Christian burial for Ellen Watson, 88, of Kirkersville, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Buckeye Lake. Burial will follow in Kirkersville Cemetery.
Mrs. Watson, a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, died Oct. 9, 2002, at Mount Carmel East Hospital, Columbus. She was born March 29, 1914, in County Tyrone, Ireland to the late Francis and Mary Ann (Teaque) O'Reilly.
Mrs. Watson was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, crocheting and gardening. She was a member of the Kirkersville Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Carey of Pataskala; two grandsons, Jason Geib and Matthew Geib, both of Columbus; one stepgrandson, Curtis Carey of Balitmore; one sister, Kathleen Harrington of White Plains, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews including special niece, Ann Marie Gindhart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Watson, in 1986; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Kirkersville Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, 285 E. Main St., Kirkersville, where a wake service will be held at 5 p.m.

Lee E. Jones

A funeral service for Lee E. Jones, 71, of Heath, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Heath Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with the Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
Mr. Jones, a farmer, died Oct. 10, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born July 2, 1931, in Newark, to the late Henry Harvey Jones and Mabel Mae (Harmon) Jones.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruby R. (Parker) Jones, whom he married on Oct. 21, 1951; children, Susan Fyffe of Heath, Mike Jones of Heath, Christine Jones of Newark, Coral Jones of Heath and Andrew (Alma) Jones of Heath; three grandchildren, Kyla (David) Vanoy of Newark, and Heather Jones and Brandon Jones, both of Heath; one sister, Pauline Smith of Thornville; and mother-in-law, Faye Parker of Heath.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Forest and Earl Jones.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and noon to 1 p.m. Monday, prior to the service at the funeral home, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.

Wilma L. (Steele) Herrel

A Celebration of Life service for Wilma L. (Steele) Herrel, 86, formerly of Millersport, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Buckeye Lake First Community Church, Ohio 79, Buckeye Lake. No funeral service will be held, as cremation has taken place.
Mrs. Herrel died Oct. 7, 2002, at Wexner Heritage Village, Columbus. She was born Sept. 23, 1916, to the late Homer and Emma Steele.
Mrs. Herrel was an avid volunteer in the Buckeye Lake community for many years, including the Red Cross, secretary of Buckeye Lake First Community Church, and president of the Ladies Guild, as well as Meals on Wheels in Columbus during its formative years. She was a Millersport Lioness and a member of Newark Hetuck Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also an active member of the Columbus South High School Alumni Class of 1934, and an enthusiastic OSU Buckeye fan.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Frederick C. Herrel, whom family and friends referred to the couple as Fred and Wilma Flintstone; brothers, Kenneth Steele of Dayton, and Ronald (Donna) Steele of Columbus; children, Judy M. Ballenger of Hebron, Janet (David) Thomson of Pataskala and John (Tena) Herrel of Columbus; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Homer Jr. and William; sister, Rosemary Rhoten; and grandson, Charles Ballenger.

Lona C. Ressler

There will be no funeral service for Lona C. Ressler, 90, of Newark.
Mrs. Ressler died Oct. 8, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born June 3, 1912, in Knox County, to the late Ross and Laveda (Smith) Cochran.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nell Lampton; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and husband, James Ressler.
No calling hours will be observed.

Francis "Frank" J. Cortez
Nov. 4, 1933-Oct. 11, 2002
A Mass of Christian burial for Frank Cortez, 68, of Newark, will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with Rev. Dean Mathewson officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Cortez died Oct. 10, 2002, in the Selma Markowitz Care Center. He was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Tescow, Pa., to the late Anthony M. and Kathryn (McGovern) Cortez.
He served in the United States Air Firce during the Korean Conflict. He also worked as a dispatcher for Consolidated Freightways, and also worked at Label Graphics. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis and the Newark Area Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Cortez is survived by his wife of 46 years, Louise (Testa) Cortez, of the home; three sons, Michael A. Cortez, of Millersport, Frederick J. Cortez, of Newark, and John F. Cortez, of Buckeye Lake; six grandchildren, Justin Cortez, Addison Cortez, Caitlyn Cortez, Joshua Cortez, Christina Cortez and Ann Marie Haefs; sister-in-law, Mary Pecararo; nieces, Mary Rose McLaughlin, Rose Ann Farrell, Carol Linetto, Cheryl Ford and special friend, Stacie Hoy.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 N. Green Wave Drive, Newark. A vigil service will begin at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
