Benjamin Jacob Thompson

A private funeral service for Benjamin Jacob Thompson, 29, of Alexandria, will be held at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, with the Rev. Don Cass officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Township Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson, who owned and operated All Seasons Landscaping, died June 17, 2002. He was born Jan. 4, 1973, in Columbus.
Mr. Thompson was a 1992 graduate of Northridge High School and Licking County Joint Vocational School. He was on the baseball team and was captain of the soccer team in high school. He enjoyed motorcross racing, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his parents, Thomas B. and Marilyn A. (Hopkins) Thompson; maternal grandmother, Mary Bryen; his children, Brandon and McKayla Thompson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Robert F. Wells
Sept. 12, 1918-June 18, 2002
A funeral service for Robert F. Wells, 83, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel with Pastor Daniel Mortinger officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Wells, who retired from the Street Department of the city of Newark, died June 18, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Licking County, to the late Ernest and Marie (Fravel) Wells.
Mr. Wells was a member of Outville Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and model trains.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vivian (Harris) Wells; daughters and son-in-law, Madeleine and John Hosterman of Circleville, and Charlotte Wood of Newark; grandchildren, Brian, Stephen, Jeffrey and Mark Hosterman; brother-in-law, Galen Harris of Heath; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Nelson Wells; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Ford.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 179 Granville St., Newark.
Sandra Lynne Lewis
Dec. 21, 1971-June 17, 2002
A funeral service for Sandra Lynne Lewis, 30, of Warsaw, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fischer Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Beatty officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Warsaw.
Ms. Lewis died June 17, 2002, at the Cleveland Clinic. She was born Dec. 21, 1971, in Coshocton, to Everett Hanes and Debroah (Fenstermaker) Darr.
Ms. Lewis attended the New Guilford United Methodist Church and has an associate degree from Central Ohio Technical College in Newark.
She is survived by her mother, Deborah (James) Darr of Warsaw; father, Everett Hanes of Warsaw; daughter, Natasha Lynne Lewis of Coshocton; son, Zachary A. Lewis of Warsaw; sister, Becky N. Hanes of Coshocton; brother, Robert A. Hanes; her fiance, Donnie Lawrence of Warsaw; step-brother, James A. Darr Jr. of Newark; and half-brother, David Dunfee of Coshocton.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home, 412 E. Main St., Warsaw.
Paul Edward Brown
Oct. 8, 1919-June 19, 2002
A funeral service for Paul Edward Brown, 83, of Somerset, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, with the Rev. Linda Pinson officiating. Burial will follow in Somerset Cemetery.
Mr. Brown, a lifetime resident of Somerset and member of Somerset United Methodist Church, died June 19, 2002. He was born Oct. 8, 1919, to the late Ed and Erma (Shiplett) Brown.
Mr. Brown, a farmer for many years, had an avid love for the farm and was a meat cutter until the age of 81.
He is survived by two sons, Larry Brown of Millersport and Ron (Linda) Brown of New Lexington; two daughters, Judy Brown of Junction City and Sherri (Bruce) Collard of Mount Perry; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; special friends, Sherri Kirkpatrick and David Rey; and his dog, Schottzie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Wilson) Brown, who died in 1981; son, Jerry Lee Brown; grandson, Troy Wyatt Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Dustin Phillips and Brandon Tittle.

Paul E. Cain
April 23, 1937-May 30, 2002
A funeral service for Paul E. Cain, 65, of Texas, was held on June 3 at the Hampton Chapel. Burial followed in Fabens Cemetery, Fabens, Texas.
Mr. Cain died May 30, 2002. He was born April 23, 1937, to Betty Cain of Newark, and the late Jessie R. Cain.
Mr. Cain grew up in Byesville and Newark. He began his music studies in high school and became an accomplished guitar and piano player. His guitar music was played in the background during the funeral service.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, G. Jean Cain of Texas; daughter, Valerie L. Contreras; sons, Randy M. (Yolanda) Cain of Fabens, Texas, and Robert D. Cain of Washington; brother, Ronald (Loretta) Cain; sister, Carol (Charles) Kessinger of Newark; and nephew, James Neville of Newark.

Frederick E. Powell Sr.
Aug. 5,1934-June 19, 2002
A graveside service for Frederick E. Powell Sr., 67, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Knox officiating.
Mr. Powell, who was employed as a mill ride for Owens Corning, died June 19, 2002, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Newark, to the late Milo E. and Mildred L. (Baker) Powell.
He is survived by one son, Frederick E. Powell II; one step-daughter, Renee McPeek; three sisters, Jane Riffle, Bonita Varner and Sharon Clayton; one brother, T. Milo Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Frederick E. Powell III; and a brother, Ronny Powell.

Gerald G. "Red" Priest

A funeral service for Gerald G. "Red" Priest, 83, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Priest, who was retired from The Advocate where he had been a pressman for more than 48 years, died June 19, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 16, 1918, in Newark, to the late George C. and Minnie (Kaiser) Priest.
Mr. Priest was a 1936 graduate of Newark High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, the D.A.V., the Licking County Old Timers Athletic Association, the Graphic Communications International Union and AARP.
Mr. Priest also enjoyed his family very much, as well as fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and watching ball games.
He is survived by his wife, Jean M. (Craft) Priest; daughter, Jean Ann Priest of Heath; sons and daughter-in-law, Terry and Sheila Priest of Newark, and Robert Priest of Heath; three granddaughters, Crystal, Amber and Tiffany; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Lawrence Priest; and a sister, Martha Jane Roberts.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, 59 N. Fifth St., Newark.

A funeral service for Stephen E. Goff, 58, of Heath, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Newark Memorial Gardens, 4244 Marion Road, N.E., Newark, with Dr. Dennis Baker officiating.
Mr. Goff, a member of First United Methodist Church, died June 20, 2002, at his residence. He was born Feb. 29, 1944, in Columbus, to Clyde Goff and the late Isabell (Laver) Goff.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Clyde and Dorthea Goff of Newark; sisters, Tanya (Richard) McCoy of Newark, and Cheryl Elliott of Columbus; a niece, Jodi McCoy; and two nephews, Jason McCoy and Sean Elliott.
No calling hours will be observed.
