John E. Gonser

A graveside service for John E. Gonser, 72, of Newark, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Susan Spencer-Smith officiating.
Mr. Gonser, who was a boiler mechanic at Licking Memorial Hospital for a number of years, died Oct. 27, 2002, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Newark, to the late Ross E. and A. Mae (Monroe) Gonser.
He is survived by his son, John E. Gonser Jr. of Newark; four daughters, Jane E. (Rick) Moran, Susan L. (Leslie) McGuire, Jolene (Oris) McCloud and Jennifer L. Gonser, all of Newark; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale D. and William E. Gonser.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, 179 Granville St., Newark.

Maxine Montgomery
May 7, 1918-Oct. 29, 2002
A funeral service for Maxine Montgomery, 84, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Minihan officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Montgomery, who was a legal secretary for Kreider and Kreider, died Oct. 29, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born May 7, 1918, in Newark, to the late Walter and Helen (Francis) Stair.
Mrs. Montgomery was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Newark, the "99" Club, the Madison Volunteer Fireman's Auxiliary and the Madison Garden Club. She was also a 4-H volunteer in the Jargomra 4-H Club, and a 1936 graduate of Newark High School.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Tom) Robinson of Newark; son, Clark (Pam) Montgomery of Newark; grandchildren, Mandi (Tim) Anderson of Frazeysburg, Lisa Montgomery, Vanessa Montgomery, Crystal Robinson and Levi Robinson, all of Newark; and great-grandchildren, Halley Anderson and Kayla Anderson, both of Frazeysburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Levi D. Montgomery, who died on Feb. 5, 2002.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

William T. Tucker
April 2, 1942-Oct. 28, 2002
A Funeral Mass for William Thomas Tucker, 60, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward's Church in Granville, with a brunch immediately following at the church.
Mr. Tucker, a retired driver from USF Holland, died Oct. 28, 2002, at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Center. He was born April 2, 1942, in Columbus.
Mr. Tucker was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served aboard the USS Essex.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary; son, Mark; daughter, Monica; daughter-in-law, Barb; son-in-law, Rob; grandchildren, Samantha, Mason, Sophia, Vincent and Anna; mother, Dorothy; brother, Clyde; and sister-in-law, Patty.
Flowers may be sent directly to the church, or donations can be made to Hospice of Central Ohio.
Kathryn F. Welch
July 23, 1909-Oct. 29, 2002
A funeral service for Kathryn F. Welch, 93, of Johnstown, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, with Pastor Angie Sherer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Welch, a member of Kenova United Methodist Church in West Virginia, died Oct. 29, 2002, at the Northview Senior Living Center, Johnstown. She was born July 23, 1909, in Wayne County, W.Va., to the late Levi and Hattie Hatten.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Mary (Don) Morrison of Overland Park, Kan.; special niece, Betty (Charles) Pletcher of St. Louisville; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Otis Thorne; second husband, Jim Welch; six brothers; and two sisters.

Thomas Ricciardo

A graveside service for Thomas Ricciardo, 80, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Newark Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Dean Mathewson officiating.
Mr. Ricciardo, who worked as a carpenter, died Oct. 29, 2002, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. He was born Aug. 18, 1922, in Newark, to the late Cono and Anna (DiGiacomantonio) Ricciardo.
Mr. Ricciardo served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty (Johnson) Ricciardo; daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Mark Cotter of Heath; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Suzanne Ricciardo of Granville, Steve and Libby Ricciardo of Newark, and Thomas Ricciardo and Joseph Ricciardo, both of New Orleans, La.; brother, Rick Ricciardo and wife of Nelsonville; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary and Elmer Kisor, Ida McClain and Natalie Woolard, all of Newark; nine grandchildren, Ginger (John) Young, Gloria (Bill) Gulick, Tony Ricciardo, David Ricciardo, Brian Ricciardo, Crystal Cotter, Tiffany Cotter, Brittany Cotter and Melissa Cotter; four great-grandchildren, Dalton, Connor, Jaylyn and Brianna; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; and three sisters.

Paul William Paxton
Dec. 26, 1925-Oct. 26, 2002
A Mass of Christian burial for Paul William Paxton of Harlingen, Texas was held on Oct. 29 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas. Burial followed in Restlawn Memorial Park, La Feria, Texas.
Mr. Paxton, who served his country as a naval pilot during World War II, died Oct. 26, 2002. He was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Junction City, to the late John and Mary Paxton.
Mr. Paxton graduated from Ohio Northern University with a degree in pharmacy in 1951. He was the owner of Paxton Pharmacy in New Lexington, until he relocated to Texas, where he worked as pharmacist in Corpus Christi and later at Medico in Harlingen until his retirement in September 1987.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Irma Mora Paxton; three sons, Paul W. (Cecilia) Paxton Jr. of Lakewood, Colo., John P. Paxton and Robert Paxton, both of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Benita Paxton of Corpus Christi, Texas and Angel (Felix) Paxton Sanchez of Harlingen, Texas; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Jinks, Ethel Krischak and Maryanne McClintock of Newark; and brothers, Merle and Donald Paxton of Junction City.
Frances "Fran" Jones

A graveside service for Frances "Fran" Jones, 84, of Thurston, will be held at 1 a.m. Friday at Glen Rest Memorial Estates in Reynoldsburg, with Pastor Jeff Connar officiating.
Mrs. Jones, a former member of the Buckeye Lake Eagles and Buckeye Lake Senior Citizens, died Oct. 30, 2002, at Sunbridge-Homestead Nursing Home.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Jack Spring of Thurston, and Virginia and John W. Starkey of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Charles (Kim Kamer) Cochran, Michael (Jody) Starkey, Angela Mills, John P. (Lynn) Starkey and Tony (Amy) Spring; nine great-grandchildren, Jennifer Mount, Ryan, Chelsea and Janelle Cochran and Christopher, Monica, Josh, John T. and Mindi Starkey; great-great-grandchild, Donavan Scott; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Jones, parents, Raymond and Lulu Morgan; and sister, Mildred "Midge" Jones.
Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, Baltimore, is in charge of arrangements.

George Carl Shipston

A funeral service for George Carl Shipston, 81, of Worthington, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, with the Rev. Richard Ellsworth officiating. A graveside service and interment will be held Monday at The Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Pluckemin, N.J.
Mr. Shipston, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, died Oct. 30, 2002, at the Kobacker House.
He retired after 39 years of service as a marketing manager of the Plastic Division for Union Carbide. He was a member of Central College Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Leasure Blackston Post, S.H.A.E.F., life member of NRA, and member of the National Association for Amateur Radio (KA20EC).
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Shipston; daughter, Judith (Thomas Joe) Keener of Worthington; son, Richard Shipston of Florida; and grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth and Alan.
