A graveside service for Willie Tolbert, 78, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Lon Harris officiating.
Mr. Tolbert died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born June 28, 1924, in Macon, Ga., to the late Will Tolbert and Ida M. Burt.
He was a presser for a dry cleaner for a number of years.
He is survived by seven brothers, Eddie Butts, of Albany, Ga., Ernest (Betty), of Macon, Ga., the Rev. Curtis (Betty) Tolbert, of Macon, Ga., John Tolbert, of Macon, Ga., Joseph (Carol) Tolbert, of Cleveland, Jesse (Jannie) Tolbert, of Detroit, David Tolbert of Macon, Ga.; three sisters, Iretha Trimble, of Cincinnati, Doris (John) Tolbert, of Cincinnati, and Louise David, of Macon, Ga.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Samuel Tolbert; and two sisters, Sheila and Sheba Tolbert.
Calling hours will be held at 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel.
Frances M. "Fran" Alspach

A funeral service for Frances M. "Fran" Alspach, 87, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service with Bill Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Alspach, who was a retired teacher, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at The Inn at SharonBrooke. She was born July 9, 1915, in Licking County to the late James and Daisy (Kislingbery) Hughes.
She was a graduate of Newark High School and Wittenberg University. She retired from the Newark City School System in 1972 after teaching one year in Ashland County School District and 34 years at Roosevelt Junior High School, where she taught Latin and English.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Rebecca Circle and served as the church librarian for many years.
She was an active member of Gamma Tau Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Research Club, Monday Talks, the Licking County Historical Society, the Audubon Society, the Institute of Industrial Technology (The Works), the Licking County Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, National Retired Teachers Association and the Ladies Section of the Newark Maennerchor.
She also was a volunteer with the Hospice Service since 1983 and served as the Hospice of Central Ohio librarian. In May 2002, she was inducted into the Ohio Seniors Hall of Fame representing Licking County.
She is survived by nieces, Mrs. William (Patricia) Weaver, Mrs. Robert (Claudia) Weaver, Mrs. William (Sue) Miller; nephews David Williams III and William Wigton; and several grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Kenneth C. Alspach; and sisters, Lillian C. Hughes, Isabel M. Hughes and Marjorie (Hughes) Williams.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home, 59 N. Fifth St., Newark.

Lillian "Gin" V. Saporito

Graveside services for Lillian "Gin" V. Saporito, 77, of Newark, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Saporito died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, in Grant Medical Center. Born Jan. 28, 1925, in Newark, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Pinnie (Shrewsbury) Hare.
Gin worked in the Newark City Schools as a secretary for Hartzler Elementary for 23 years. She was a member of Central Christian Church, PTA and the Ohio State Board of PTA.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John Saporito, of the home; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Victoria Saporito, of Wooster; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Bill Kowaliw, of Windsor, Ontario; four grandchildren, Christina L. Saporito, Andrea M. Saporito, Michael J. Saporito and Cameron J. Kowaliw; great-grandchild, Hannah Saporito; brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Jean Hare, of Newport News, Va., her sister, Edith Bobot, of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Martha Ann Wolever

A service for Martha Ann Wolever, 87, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Waters officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Wolever, a housewife, died Nov. 1, 2002, in Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 11, 1914, in Hackers Valley, W.Va., to the late A.W. and Lina Sizemore.
She is survived by sons, Dick (Gail) Wolever, of Granville, Donald (Sonny) Wolever, of Newark; grandchildren, April, Scot, David and Jared; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph (Twila) Sizemore, of Centralia, W.Va., Raymond Sizemore of Centralia, W.Va.; sisters, Mabel Skidmore, of Xenia, Nell Hammond, of Steubenville, Hazel (Bud) Booth, of Steubenville; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Sam and Bus Sizemore; and sisters, Ruby Moffat and Velma Ault.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Dr. Irving E. Mitchell
June 18, 1912-Oct. 31, 2002
Memorial services for Dr. Irving E. Mitchell, 90, of Newark will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at Central Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Callender and the Rev. Jim Young officiating. Burial will be at the Denison University Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Dr. Mitchell died Thursday at Newark Health Care Center.
He was born June 18, 1912 in Lynn, Mass., to Arthur Mitchell and Lillian (Ward) Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Audrey (Clark) Mitchell who died in August 1997.
Survivors include a niece, Gladys L. Roberts of Nova Scotia and several friends in the surrounding area.
Dr. Mitchell was a retired professor of sociology at Denison University and a retired minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in St. Louisville for 31 years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Aladdin Temple Shrine, Moundbuilders Kiwanis and the American Sociology Assoc., a member of NRA, a special deputy of the Licking County Sheriff's Dept. Auxiliary and Ohio Peace Officer Training Council, and a member of the US Power Squadron for 25 years.
Dr. Mitchell received his BA in theology from Gordon College of Theology and Missions in 1943, his sociology master in 1944 from the University of New Hampshire and doctor of philosophy from the University of Boston in 1957.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Larry Dobkin, a veteran character actor whose television and film career spanned seven decades, died Oct. 28 of heart failure.
William O. Porter

William O. Porter, 57, of Newark, died Nov. 3, 2002, at the Arlington Nursing Home.
Mr. Porter was born Nov. 13, 1944, in Newark, to the late Bernard Burton Porter and Lucille (Taylor) Porter. He had been formerly employed by Modern Welding, Universal Veneer and Ideal Sanitation.
He is survived by his sons, William O. Porter Jr., David P. Porter and William James (Chris) Porter; daughters, Crystal M. (Steve) Smyers and Deanna Kay Porter, all of Newark; nine grandchildren; two brothers, three sisters; and former wife, Gale M. (Dennison) Porter.
Mr. Porter donated his body to science through The Ohio State University Department of Anatomy.

A funeral service for Ronald Norris Carson, 61, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with Pastor Doug Sweet officiating. Burial will follow in Lock Cemetery.
Mr. Carson, who retired in 1995 from Owens-Corning Fiberglas after 30 years of service, died Nov. 4, 2002, at Autumn Healthcare. He was born Jan. 31, 1941, in Newark, to the late Alpha and Lucille (Norris) Carson.
Mr. Carson was a 1959 graduate of Newark High School. He was a member of the Lock Federated Church, the American Legion Post 85, Druids and Moose of Newark. He was also a member of the Ohio National Guard.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Beverly (Chrisman) Carson; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Kelly Carson of Heath; daughter and son-in-law, Marty and Ron Nutter of Newark; stepchildren, David (Lynn) Thompson and Susan (Allen) Lester, all of Mount Vernon; granddaughters, Kari Carson and Marisa Carson; grandsons, Zechariah Thompson, Dillon Lester and Joshua Lester; six stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandsons; sisters, Rosemary (Bob) Stokes of Newark, and Shirley Riley of Wellston; brother, James (Betty) Carson of Winchester, Ky.; sister-in-law, Betty Louise Carson of Heath; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth H. Carson.
