A funeral service for Betty L. Foster, 70, of Utica, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Utica Church of Christ, with the Rev. Paul Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.
Mrs. Foster, who was a Utica Fire Department Auxiliary member, died Nov. 11, 2002, at Knox Community Hospital. She was born Oct. 8, 1932, in Newark, to the late George T. and Helen (Loper) Pace.
Mrs. Foster was a former Girl Scout leader and former neighborhood chairman.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Tina Redman of Newark, and Ed and Tammy Redman of Hanover; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Clifford Amore of Coshocton, and Claudine and Rob Curtis of Utica; brother, Leslie "Bud" Pace of Newark; sister, Carol Male of Newark; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Foster; four brothers; and two sisters.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church, 115 N. Central Ave., Utica.

Charles F. Smith

A funeral service for Charles F. Smith, 79, of Utica, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Law-Baker Funeral Home, with Bruce Hissong officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smith, who was employed by B & O Railroad and retired as Utica Postmaster, died Nov. 9, 2002, in Frostproof, Fla. He was born Nov. 10, 1922, in Eldorado, Ill., to the late Benjamin F. and Lillie V. (Shirley) Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member of Masonic Lodge 291, Shriners, American Legion Post 92, Voyager 28/40-8. He was also a World War II Army/Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Rita G. (Mours) Smith; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Jack Swick of Utica, and Debbie and Dave Byers of Utica; four grandchildren, Mike Swick, Diana (Brad) Warner, all of Utica, Jason (Laura) Geiger of Johnstown, and Jeremy (Danielle) Geiger; and great granddaughter, Shaeley Warner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; and one sister.

Nicholas Taylor Winegardner

A funeral service for Nicholas Taylor Winegardner, 18, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dean Mathewson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Winegardner, who was a member of the Catholic faith, died Nov. 12, 2002, in Newark. He was born Oct. 26, 1984, in Newark, to Bob and Tina (Walker) Winegardner of Newark.
Mr. Winegardner attended St. Francis de Sales and Newark High School. He worked with his father as a painter for Winegardner Painting. He was a talented fine artist, and won a scholarship to Glass Axis in Columbus, where he learned and mastered his glass-blowing techniques. He also worked at the Institute of Industrial Technology, currently known as The Works, where he instructed glass-blowing demonstrations and classes.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his half-sister, Heather Houck of Newark; his maternal grandfather and grandmother, Dale Sr. and Millie Walker of Newark; paternal grandfather and grandmother, Carl T. and Bessie Winegardner of Heath; nephew, Noah Houck of Newark; uncles and their spouses, Dale and Lisa Walker of Newark; Carl T. Winegardner of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Dave Robin Winegardner of Newark; aunts and their spouses, Becky and Tim Grace of Newark; Karen Winegardner of Heath; and Sandra and Rick Cushman of Dunellon, Fla.; many great-aunts and great-uncles; many cousins; and special friend, Tiffany Halsey of Newark.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Sally Keeler.

Norma Louise Smith

A memorial service for Norma Louise Smith, 82, of Newark, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church, 1415 Londondale Parkway, Newark, with the Rev. Richard L. Smyers officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Park, Lima.
Mrs. Smith, who was formerly employed on the administrative staff at OSU Newark Campus, died Nov. 12, 2002, at the L.P.N. Nursing Center. She was born Dec. 26, 1919, in Lima, to the late Ira and Lucile (Lippincott) Snider.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church and Women for Missions. Her husband, Raymond Carl Smith, and family were transferred from Rockwell -- Oshkosh, Wis., to Rockwell in Newark in 1959. They lived in Newark from 1959 to 1987, and then in Oldsman, Fla., from 1987 to 1998. They moved back to Newark in 1998.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Lynne) Smith of Columbus, and David (Barbara) Smith of Westerville; grandchildren, Melissa and Jason Smith; and great-granddaughter, Haley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Warren Snider.
No calling hours will be observed.

John Wilson Patterson

A funeral service for John Wilson Patterson, 87, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with Elder Jack Allen, Elder John Krumm and the Rev. Dr. J. Scott Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
Mr. Patterson, a life member of the Licking County Genealogical Society, where he made many projects for the society, died Nov. 11, 2002, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born Dec. 13, 1914, in Newark, to the late Levi and Effie (Peters) Patterson.
Mr. Patterson attended Newark High School where he was involved in the high school shop. While attending school, he carried newspapers for The Advocate and the Columbus Dispatch. During his life, he worked for the Lawrence Brothers Marathon at 21st and Church streets, with Tom Foos in a photo shop on South Fifth Street, Hamilton's Electric in Granville, taught a women's class in shop at Newark High School at the beginning of World War II, Curtis Wright during World War II, Beard Electric, Airesman Electric and Airesman-Baker, and General Electric Co. as a service technician, retiring in Jan. 1, 1977. Following his retirement, he continued to do projects and repairs for neighbors and friends.
Mr. Patterson attended the Friendship-Harmony Primitive Baptist Church. For many years, he was a member of the NCHA Moundbuilders Kamper Klub Unit 529 and the WBCCI Land-O-Lakes of Ohio Unit of Airstreams. He and his wife traveled a lot with their trailers on many caravans.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Lou and Dick Athey of Columbus, and Ruth and Dan Osborn of Frazeysburg; granddaughter, Janelle E. Osborn of Frazeysburg; sister-in-law, Blanche Patterson of Kettering; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Roberts) Patterson, on Oct. 9, 2001; and a brother, Joseph.

Mrs. Wiskotoni died Nov. 9, 2002. She was born Jan. 28, 1947, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Enor and Martha (Michalski) Johnson.

Ellen E. Franks

A funeral service for Ellen E. Franks, 74, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Jerry Cowles officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery.
Mrs. Franks, who was a payroll clerk at the Ohio Power Company and a gradute of Jacksontown High School, died Nov. 13, 2002, at the Newark Health Care Centre. She was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Newark, to the late Walter and Helen (Warman) Gorley.
Mrs. Franks was a former member of the Franklin Grange.
She is survived by her brother, Jim (Beverly) Gorley of Newark; sisters, Lillian (Dale) Hupp of Thornville, and Nancy (David) Adkins of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Franks.

Florence Helmick

A funeral service for Florence Helmick, 80, of Washington Court House, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Summers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Helmick died Nov. 12, 2002.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Sara) Helmick of Jeffersonville, Glen Helmick Jr. of Chillicothe, and Karen (Gary) Huffman of Washington Court House.
