A funeral service for Annabelle Uffner Conner, 94, formerly of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Conner, a homemaker, died June 24, 2002, at the Arlington Nursing Home in Upper Arlington. She was born Oct. 15, 1907, in Newark, to the late John and Belle (Horn) Uffner.
Mrs. Conner was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Robert Larson of Columbus; son-in-law, Robert Kelley of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Kathy Friend of Mansfield, Jeffrey Kelley of Leavenworth, Kan., and Lincoln Kelley of Columbus; five great-grandchildren, Todd Friend, Adam Friend, Angela Kelley, Erin Kelley and Jared Kelley; and two great-grandchildren, Conner Friend and Cameron Friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Conner, on Feb. 18, 1996; and a daughter, Janice (Hand) Kelley, on Oct. 22, 1999.

Velma L. Rodman

Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Velma L. Rodman, 64, of Newark, who died June 24, 2002, at Riverside Hospital, Columbus.

Dr. Rev. Rex Clair Smith
Dec. 26, 1913-June 24, 2002
A funeral service for Dr. Rev. Rex Clair Smith, 88, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church, 265 E. Main St., Newark, with Dr. Sue Ellen and the Rev. Charles Imhoff officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Johnstown.
Rev. Smith died June 24, 2002. He was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Johnstown, to the late Floyd and Pearl (Cramer) Smith.
Rev. Smith attended school in Johnstown and graduated in 1931. He also graduated from Otterbein College in 1940 and Bonebrake E.U.B. Seminary in 1943.
Rev. Smith served the Lord in many different capacities during his 55 years of ministry. He served Pataskala E.U.B. from 1936-40, South High E.U.B. from 1940-50, First E.U.B. in Newark from 1950-63, was Chaplain of the Newark Fire Department, Trustee of Otterbein College from 1955-63, Director of Christian Education, SE Region E.U.B. Church from 1963-64, Director of Camp Otterbein in Logan, Ohio from 1964-73, received the degree of Doctor of Divinity from Otterbein College in 1968, named Director of Christian Education and Program, and Springfield District United Methodist Church from 1973-78.
After retiring in 1978 to Thornport, Ohio, Buckeye Lake, he pastored both the Thurston and New Salem United Methodist churches for 10 years until 1988.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rex C. and Angela R. Smith Jr.; grandchildren, Benjamin Oren, Kienle Marie (Kevin) Gallagher, and Aaron David Smith; great-granddaughter, Kiley Marie Gallagher; sisters, Geneva (Dwight) Jones and Anne Smith; brother-in-law, Dwight (Tina) Rife; sisters-in-law, Dr. Rev. Mabel Whipple, Betty Wooten and Margaret Colbert; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Esther Marie (Rife) Smith, whom he married on Aug. 10, 1941; brothers, Raymond and Wilbur Smith; and sisters, Ruby Conard and Jeanette Johnson.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Evans Funeral Home, 4171 E. Livingson Ave., Columbus, and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Thurston United Methodist Church, New Salem United Methodist Church, or Otterbein College.
Gertrude Lee Martin

A funeral service for Gertrude Lee Martin, 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor R. L. "Doc" Michael officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery, Organ Cave, W.Va.
Mrs. Martin, a retired nurse at the Gauley Bridge Clinic, Gauley Bridge, W.Va., died June 23, 2002, at Knox County Hospital, Mount Vernon. She was born Sept. 3, 1909, in Red Sulphur Springs, W.Va., to the late Jesse and Lucinda (Long) Helvey.
Mrs. Martin had been a resident of Organ Cave for 25 years and was formerly of Gauley Bridge, W.Va. She was a member of the Lewisburg Seventh Day Adventist Church, Lewisburg, W.Va.
She is survived by two daughters, Drusilla (Jack) Morgan of Florence, S.C., and Brenda (Glenn) Hypes of Newark; two sons, Shuler (Joanne) Erskine of Mount Vernon, and Kester (Marie) Erskine of Caldwell, W.Va.; two sisters, Cinda Howard of Ronceverte, W.Va., and Nellie Davidson of Burbank, Calif.; five brothers, Wade (Martha) Helvey of Sinks Grove, W.Va., Virgil (Lorene) Helvey of Hollywood, W.Va., Clayton (Betty) Helvey of Roanoke, Va., Fred (Connie) Helvey of Hollywood, W.Va., and Junior (Marlene) Helvey of Washington State; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Elizabeth Helvey; her husbands, Gary Winebrimmer (1927), Tom Henry Erskine (1955), and Robert L. Martin (1964); two daughters, Norma Jean Erskine and Marjorie Reed and her husband, Lawrence; four sisters, Maggie Glove, Gladys Bland, Ruby Nickell and Ruth McClung; three brothers, Frank Helvey, Leonard Helvey and Woodrow Helvey; and three grandchildren.

Richard L. Fetter
Sept. 16, 1944-June 24, 2002
A Mass of Christian burial for Richard L. Fetter, 57, of Granville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with the Rev. William Hritsko officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Fetter died June 24, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1944, in Newark, to the late J. Raymond and Mary Gertrude (Sachs) Fetter.
Mr. Fetter graduated from Newark High School and Indiana University. He was the president and owner of the Fetter Electric Co. of Newark. He started his electrical career in the Holophane Engineering Center in Newark. He was also the former plant manager of Holophane Lighting Company in Pataskala, and developed the Holophane Plant in Utica.
Mr. Fetter was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Newark Area Chamber of Commerce, International Electrical Contractors, and Licensed Electrical Contractors. He was also very passionate about nature and was an avid horseman.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline (Madonna) Fetter; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Alan and Kelly Fetter of Newark, and Mark Lee Fetter of Newark; daughter, Catherine Giavanna Fetter of the home; step-daughter, Jennifer Hunt of Columbus; step-son, Joseph Hunt of Granville; granddaughter, Lita Nicole Fetter; grandson, Sebastian Bryan Fetter; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Ruth Fetter of Granville, David and Grace Fetter of newark, and Stephen and Nancy Fetter of Carmel, Ind.; many nieces and nephews; and faithful companions, Sam, and quarter horse, Key Cody Star.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Raymond Fetter, in 1994.

Petrina LaMarco

A Mass of Christian burial for Petrina LaMarco, 91, of Heath, formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with the Rev. William Hritsko officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Ms. LaMarco died June 24, 2002, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born March 21, 1911, in Italy, to the late John and Maria (Terranova) Ferrara.
Ms. LaMarco was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was also an avid bowler and golfer.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Max Marston of Heath; two granddaughters, Christine and Larry Bowman of Heath, and Michele and Scott White of Powell; six great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert Cooper of Manassas, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John LaMarco, in 1978; one son, Richard LaMarco; three brothers; and two sisters.

Velma L. (Bennett) Rodman

A funeral service for Velma L. (Bennett) Rodman, 64, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert L. Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Rodman, a homemaker, died June 24, 2002, at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Columbus, to the late Ervin H. and Myrtle (Stewart) Bennett.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Rodman, whom she married on July 12, 1962; four sons and daughter-in-law, Howard Bennett of Newark, Jeff Bennett of Utica, Mark Rodman of Newark, and Dale and Peggy Rodman of Newark; daughter, Virginia Rodman of Newark; numerous grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Edgar and Lena Bennett of Galion; daughter-in-law, Audrey McClain of Newark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Merle Rodman; four brothers; three sisters; and three grandchildren.

Philip Wayne Maharg

A funeral service for Philip Wayne Maharg, 21, of Nashport, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home with Pastor William Rauch officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.
Mr. Maharg, who was employed at Garfield's Restaurant, died June 24, 2002. He was born Nov. 4, 1980, in Newark, to Wayne Maharg and Karen Butts.
He is survived by his mother, Karen (Jim) Butts of Newark; father, Wayne (Cheryl) Maharg of Gratiot; half-brothers, Timothy G. (Padenna) Maharg and Brian (Diane) Walker, both of Newark; girlfriend, Christine Hupp of Nashport; nephew, Cory Walker of Newark; paternal grandparents, Peggy and Roy Waldeck of Newark; maternal grandparents, Melvin and Janet Brewer of Nashport; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
