Roy E. Atteberry

June 15,1920-Feb. 21, 2003

A funeral service for Roy E. Atteberry, 82, of Heath, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Heath, with Pastor Randy Wagner officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in South Macon Township Cemetery, Macon, Ill.

Mr. Atteberry, who was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Heath, died Feb. 21, 2003, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born June 15, 1920, in Macon, Ill., to the late Emmett and Maggie (Musgraves) Atteberry.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from the Newark Air Force Base and was a member of the NARF and the Heath Senior Citizens.

Mr. Atteberry is survived by his wife, Elsie L. Atteberry; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Gwen Atteberry, of Tampa, Fla., Thomas and Maureen Atteberry, of Cary N.C., and William and Cindy Atteberry, of Chesapeake, Va.; grandchildren, Nicole Atteberry, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Tiffany (Scott) Atteberry-Brown, of Ocala, Fla., Michael Atteberry, of Cary, N.C., and Caitlin Atteberry, of Cary N.C.; step grandchildren, Michelle (Dan) Garland, of Marco Island, Fla., and Kelly (Bill) Harris, of Chesapeake, Va.; step great-grandchildren, Cody Garland, of Marco Island, Fla., Mackenzie Garland, of Marco Island, Fla., Payton Harris, of Chesapeake, Va.; sisters-in-law, Betty Atteberry, of Lovington, Ill., Catherine Atteberry, of Macon, Ill., Norma Atteberry, of Elberta, Ala.; brother-in-law, Harold (Mildred) Naber, of Decatur, Ill.; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Heath Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.

Jerry L. Myers

Sept. 23, 1940-Feb. 21, 2003

A funeral service for Jerry L. Myers, 62, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Mathewson officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens, where military graveside services will be provided by the Licking County Veterans' Alliance.

Mr. Myers, a retired machine operator for Walker Manufacturing, died Feb. 21, 2003, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born Sept. 23, 1940, in Newark, to the late Perry and Elsie (Drumm) Myers.

Mr. Myers served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David McPeek of Newark; three granddaughters, Stephanie McCracken, Stacey Mosher and Ashley McPeek, all of Newark; one great-grandson, Connor McCracken of Newark; brother, Dale B. Myers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; and one sister.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 179 Granville St., Newark.

Cora M. Hickman

April 20, 1915-Feb. 22, 2003

A funeral service for Cora M. Hickman, 87, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.

Mrs. Hickman, a former housekeeper for The Ohio Bell Telephone Company, died Feb. 22, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born April 20, 1915, in Birchleaf, Va., to the late Waites and Lillie (Deel) Stanley.

Mrs. Hickman was an avid bingo player and loved to sew and watch rodeos.

She is survived by her former husband and friend, Albert William Inscore of Princeton, W.Va.; son, James (Debra) Inscore of Newark; four daughters, Joyce (Charles Thomas) La Rue of Heath, Delores Meadows of Newark, Deborah Tracey of Austdell, Ga., and Yolanda Inscore of Martinsburg; sister, Gladys (L.C.) Tipton of Marion, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers; four sisters; and one granddaughter.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Opal (Edgell) Wright

Sept. 14, 1921-Feb. 27, 2003

A funeral service for Opal (Edgell) Wright, 81, of Frazeysburg, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Wright, a nurses aide at Licking Memorial Hospital, died Feb. 27, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 14, 1921, in Hocking County, to the late Donald and Lillian (Decker) Keeney.

Mrs. Wright attended Fallsburg Baptist Church, and a member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her son, Bruce (Jane) Edgell of Frazeysburg; daughters, Melinda (Wayne) Claggett of St. Louisville, and Lola (Gilbert) Hornyak of Newark; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces; and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Elmer Edgell, and Charles Wright Jr.

Friends may call from 11 to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Memorial contributions may be made to Licking County Aging Program.

Mary E. Targett-Johnson

April 12, 2003

A funeral service for Mary E. Targett-Johnson, 78, of Middletown, formerly of Columbus and Newark, will be held at noon Thursday at the Evans Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus.

Mrs. Johnson, who retired as a block operator for B & O Railroad, died April 12, 2003, at her residence. She was an auxiliary member of Bexley Post 430 American Legion and Middletown VFW.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Richard) Hart of Middletown, and Anna (Michael) Porter of Columbus; sons, Douglas (Gail) Targett of Grove City, Judson (Gwen) Targett of Jamestown, and Jerald Targett of Kansas; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Betty Kelly; and brother, Ben Wells of Newark.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, James Johnson; her parents; grandson, Benjamin Targett; and brother, Fred Wells.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 4171 E. Livington Ave., Columbus, where an American Legion Auxiliary service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any hospice.

Lloyd E. Flowers

Oct. 1, 1902-May 28, 2003

A funeral service for Lloyd E. Flowers, 100, a lifetime resident of Hanover, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Vensil-Orr and Chute Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Greenwell officiating.

Mr. Flowers, who was employed 16 years by Pharis Tire and Rubber, died May 28, 2003, at the Newark Health Care Centre. He was born Oct. 1, 1902, in Meigs Township, Muskingum County, to the late Hayes H. and Lydia L. (Trainer) Flowers.

Mr. Flowers served on the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department and Village Council. He was the owner of the Licking Valley Swim Club, and was employed 16 years as a school bus driver for the Licking Valley School District.

He is survived by his children, Virginia Flowers, Chester (Edith) Flowers, Jane (Jim) Hamby, Naomi Waters, Esther (John) Weeks, Juanita (Harold) Lynn, Kenneth Flowers, Donna (Floyd) Renicker, Phyllis (Emerson) Acord, Walter (Lois) Flowers, and Patricia (Dennis) Waters, all of Hanover, Roy (Ruth) Flowers of Kirkersville, Delores McPeek of Coshocton, Vivian (Roy) Wilson of Millersport, and Sharon (Earl) Wallace of Newark; sister, Alice Hartstine of Mount Vernon; two brothers, Ralph (Louise) Flowers of Port Huron, Mich., and Thoburn (Pearl) Flowers of Jeffersonville; 41 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Ruth R. (Burrier) Flowers, on June 14, 1995; a son Lloyd Flowers Jr.; three brothers, Harold, Lester and Harvey Flowers; and sister, Opal Drier.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 1850 W. Main St., Newark.

Floyd R. Beckman

Oct. 4, 1929-May 29, 2003

A memorial service for Floyd R. Beckman, 73, of Newark, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastor Clyde McCormack officiating.

Mr. Beckman, who retired in 1992 as the owner of H & W Trucking, died May 29, 2003, at his residence. He was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Newark, to the late George Leo and Oscie Ola (Fink) Beckman.

Mr. Beckman was the former owner of Beckman's Market. He was a lifetime member of the Newark and Eustis Florida Elks, and an avid golfer and member of the Miona Golf Club in Wildwood, Fla. He was an accomplished equestrian, and enjoyed many years of the Newark Riding Club, harness racing, and boating in Lake Erie.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Wilson) Beckman; children, Barcy (Gordon) Vidt of Heath, Jay Joseph Beckman of Newark, Bart (Beth) Beckman of Granville, Shellie Tharp of Newark, and Amy (Phil) Ghiloni of Newark; grandchildren, Cara Foran, Aubree Foran, Apryl McClure, Kenneth Vidt, Kyle Beckman, Tyler Beckman, Chance Beckman, Bart A. Beckman, Bryan Beckman, Justin Tharp, Trevor Tharp, Taylor Ghiloni, Trent Ghiloni and Angie Ghiloni; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. George Beckman.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Lorraine (Schaeffer) Lenz

July 2, 1924-May 28, 2003

A funeral service for Lorraine (Schaeffer) Lenz, 78, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sharon Valley Road and Country Club Drive, Newark, with the Rev. Douglas Croucher officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Lenz, who was a business manager at Fyrepel, died May 28, 2003, at the Selma Markowitz Center. She was born July 2, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Albert Joseph and Mable (Sylvester) Schaeffer.

Mrs. Lenz was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, volunteer with the Red Cross, and active within the church.

She is survived by her daughters, Judith Byers of Detroit, Mich., Lynnette (Ted) Rogers of Chesterhill, and Janette (Al) Panther of Newark; grandchildren, Joel Byers of Canton, Mich., Jeremy Byers of Fort Bliss, Texas, Bret Rogers of Fort Huachuca, Ariz., Brandon Rogers of Zanesville, Kristen Panther of Newark, and Kim Panther of Newark; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Logan and Liam; and two nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon W. Lenz; and brother, Albert.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st., Newark.
