Dorothy Knox

A funeral service for Dorothy Knox, 80, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. David Waser officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veteran's Alliance.
Mrs. Knox, who served in the United States Marine Corp. during World War II, died June 11, 2003, at Newark Healthcare Centre. She was born May 1, 1923, in Lincoln, Ill., to the late Hugo and Bertha (Arndt) Baumhardt.
Mrs. Knox retired from the Licking County Department of Human Services, and also worked at The Advocate. She served with her husband at the Auburn Christian Church in Auburn, Ill., Riverton Christian Church in Riverton, Ill., Camp Point Christian Church in Camp Point, Ill., Second Church of Christ in Newark, Heath Church of Christ in Heath, Licking Valley Church of Christ in Newark, Newark Church of Christ and Frazeysburg Church of Christ.
Mrs. Knox was a member of Second Church of Christ, American Legion Post 85, Aerie 387, Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, and Marine Corp. League. She graduated from Elkhart High School in Elkhart, Ill.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert L. Knox, whom she married on Dec. 1, 1945; son and daughter-in-law, Robert S. and Lois Knox of Terrace Park; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and John Carter of Anaheim, Calif., Connie and Irven Barcus of Newark, and Vickie and Keith Taylor of Corvallis, Ore.; brother and sister-in-law, Rudolf and Janet Baumhardt of Elkhart, Ill.; two sisters, Ida Schoeneberg and Lorene Schrenk, both of Springfield, Ill.; sister-in-law, Edith Baumhardt; grandchildren and in-laws, Beth and David Bushey of Bexley, Andra and Victor Blanco of San Rafael, Calif., Bryan Barcus and fiancée Angela Goode of Newark, Sarah Taylor of Corvallis, Ore., Katherine Knox of Terrace Park, Aaron Taylor of Corvallis, Ore., and Andrew Knox of Terrace Park; great-grandchildren, Susannah Bushey of Bexley, Victor Forrest Blanco of San Rafael, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Baumhardt; and sister, Alma Waller.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 179 Granville St., Newark.

Nadine Bare Denman
April 19, 1932-June 13, 2003
A funeral service for Nadine (Bare) Denman, 71, of Johnstown, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, Johnstown, with Father Richard Metzger officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Denman, a 1949 graduate of Johnstown-Monroe High School, died June 13, 2003, at her residence following a brief battle with cancer. She was born April 19, 1932, in Wagoner (Ashe County), N.C., to the late Bart and Nora Bare.
She was a member of the Church of the Ascension, a former member of the Square Wheels Camping and Dance Club, and the Betty Cornwell Memorial Golf League. She retired from Lazarus after working 13 years in the downtown store.
Mrs. Denman is survived by her husband of 52 years, Tom Denman; daughters Deborah (Paul) Westbrook, of Dublin; Susan (Michael) Ellis, of Valrico, Fla.; sons, David (Patricia), of Dublin, and Tim (Jacquie), of Johnstown; sister, Anna D. Green, of Johnstown; brothers, Harold Bare, of Johnstown, and J.B. (Doris) Bare, of Grove City; grandchildren, Michael (Shannon), Matthew, Christopher, Susan, Amber, Lisa, Carrie, Beau and David; Great-grandchildren, Drake, Carson and Cassidy, and numerous dear relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Zelle; brothers, Buster, Herbert, Hansel, Gale and Dennis; and a granddaughter, Amity Marie Westbrook.

Virginia Graham
Jan. 31, 1929-June 13, 2003
A funeral service for Virginia Graham, 74, of Buckeye Lake, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kirkersville Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with Pastor William Lavely officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Columbus.
Mrs. Graham, who was active with the Buckeye Lake Youth Association, died June 13, 2003, at the Newark Healthcare Center. She was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Columbus, to the late Paul Walt, Sr. and Rita (Moore) Walt Hooper.
Mrs. Graham was also active in the Buckeye Lake Senior Citizens, LEADS Advisory Board, Hebron 55 Plus and the Buckeye Lake Euchre Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Sheeders, of Michigan; grandchildren, Robert (Denise) Sheeders, of Michigan, Andy Sheeders, of Michigan, Tim (Sherry) Ray, of Michigan, and Jeff (Chrisie) Graham, of Buckeye Lake; a great-granddaughter, Erin Sheeders, of Buckeye Lake; much-loved great-grandchildren, Jacob and Amy Graham, of Buckeye Lake; many additional great grandchildren; a sister, Joan (Ernie) Brooks, of Whitehall; a close friend, Marge Schulze, of Buckeye Lake; many additional friends; and faithful dog, Kaia.
Mrs. Graham was preceded in death by her step-father, George Hooper; first husband, Robert Sheeders; second husband, Harold Graham; and brother, Paul Walt, Jr.

Norma E. Geer

A memorial service for Norma E. Geer, 77, of Newark, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at the Newark Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Geer, a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, died June 13, 2003, at Mount Carmel East Hospital. She was born June 15, 1925, in Sargent, Neb., to the late Arthur and Susan (Deal) Porter.
She was a 1943 graduate of Jefferson High School and a 1946 graduate of the Newark Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper at Ralph's Auto Service.
Mrs. Geer is survived by her husband, Ralph R. Geer, Sr.; a daughter, Sherryl Callander, of Newark; a step-son, Ralph R. Jr. (Sue) Geer, of Newark; a step-daughter, Sandra (Harold) Loveland, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Ivan Porter; sisters, Jean (Ralph) Guthrie, of Oregon, Ohio, Marie (Virgil) Wilkison, of Newark, and Donna Goodell, of Dublin.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Porter.

Ruth Maidel
March 7, 1917-June 14, 2003
A graveside service for Ruth Maidel, 86, of Newark, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Tom Beeman officiating.
Mrs. Maidel, a homemaker, died June 14, 2003, at Heritage House. She was born March 7, 1917, in Knox County, to the late Harry and Bernice (Robinson) Hall.
She is survived by son, Ronald E. (Lynda) Maidel, of Newark; daughter, Janice A. (Donald) Holbert, of Newark; brother, Ernest Hall, of Newark; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Linda Maidel, of Utica.
Mrs. Maidel was preceded in death by her husband, Edward G. Maidel, on May 15, 1994; daughter, Ruth Ann Maidel; son, Fred Maidel; and a grandchild.

Loyd Emerson Ramey

A funeral service for Loyd Emerson Ramey, 73, of Newark, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Carty Funeral Home Chapel, Norton-Wise, Va. Interment will be in Ingle Cemetery, Coeburn, Va.
Mr. Ramey, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, died June 12, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born April 21, 1930, in Dunganon, Va., to the late James and Partha Stapleton Ramey.
He was retired from the United States Air Force as a civilian worker, served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Mr. Ramey is survived by his wife, Lillian D. Ramey, of Coeburn, Va.; a son, James Nathaniel Ramey, of Newark; and nieces, nephews.
Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
William Howard Deck
May 22, 1934-June 14, 2003
A funeral service for William Howard Deck, 69, of Newark, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with the Rev. William J. Rauch and Vicar Jon Kibler-McCabe officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Deck, who was retired from O.D.O.T. where he had worked in the test lab, died June 14, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born May 22, 1934, in Kansas and grew up in Oklahoma.
Mr. Deck was a graduate of Oklahoma University with a degree in geology. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he and his wife took an active role in delivering flowers to shut-ins. He was a member of Newark Lodge 97 F&AM as well as the Newark Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy A. (Gleason) Deck; daughter, Anna Freas of Newark; grandchildren, Christopher Andrew Freas and Nancy Eileen Freas; sisters and brothers, Gladys Deck of Oklahoma, Betsy Shatley of Texas, Marcena Haymaker of Maryland, Delbert Deck of New Mexico and Coy Deck of California; many nieces and nephews including Richard and Ina Heath of Utica, and Bob and Bonnie Swisher of Newark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Faye Lillian (Cline) Deck; one brother; and one sister.
