William 'Dave' Hill Jr.

Nov. 28, 1928-June 16, 2003

A funeral service for William "Dave" Hill Jr., 74, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with Elder M.T. Moore officiating. The Licking County Veteran's Alliance will provide military honors at the funeral home after the funeral service.

Mr. Hill, who retired from Georgia Pacific and St. Regis Paper Companies, died June 16, 2003, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Pleasant Valley, to the late William D. Hill Sr. and Ida Mae (Lewis) Hill.

Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Hamilton-Thompkins and Ronald Thompkins of Columbus, and Susan R. Samuels of New Haven, Conn.; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony "Mark" and Jackie Hill of Columbus; sister, Jeanette McKissick of New Haven, Conn.; four granddaughters, Ayanna Grace (Frank) and Demekia Hill (Lola), both of Columbus, and Taylor and Shannon Samuels, both of New Haven, Conn.; three great-grandsons, ShaJuan and KyJuan Grace and Anshon Hill, all of Columbus; six stepgrandchildren, Shawn (Dana), Rhonda, Michael Mayfield, Kamron Samuels, Keith Bailous and Christine Hall; special friends, Nancy Allen and Harold Ellis; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Consuella (Weatherspoon) Hill; four sisters, Gertrude Mallory, Rosetta Norris, Silvia Stinger and Annesteen Sneed; and two brothers, James R. Hill and Melvin Lewis Hill.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 179 Granville St., Newark.

Michael J. Mazza Sr.

Dec. 18, 1953-June 19, 2003

A funeral mass for Michael J. Mazza Sr., 49, of Mount Vernon, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with Father Ted Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Mazza died June 19, 2003, at the Country Club Care Center following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 18, 1953, in Mount Vernon.

Mr. Mazza was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and he owned and operated Mazza's Ristorante in Mount Vernon, which was founded by his father in 1939.

Mr. Mazza was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Mount Vernon, and a former member of the Mount Vernon Moose Lodge. He was active with the National and Ohio Restaurant Associations. His passion was with racing and he was a six time National Event Champion of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

He is survived by his wife, Lisa (Butcher) Mazza; mother, Paulina (Costanzo) Mazza of Mount Vernon; three sons, Travis Mazza of Washington, D.C., Michael (Lisa Maggard) Mazza II of Mount Vernon, and Tony Mazza of Akron; grandson, Aron Michael Mazza; three stepsons, Chad Brechler, Zachary Brechler and Nathan Brechler, all of Utica; two sisters, Camille (Selmer) Solie of Vero Beach, Fla., and Jolene (Robert) Lybarger of Butler; uncle, Albert "Babe" (Margaret) Mazza of Brandon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph C. Mazza; and brother, Joseph "JoJo" Mazza Jr.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Knox County, 302 E. High St., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.

Patricia "Patty" Lamp

April 4, 1950-June 19, 2003

A Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia "Patty" Lamp, 53, of Thornville, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Father Tony Breem and Deacon Gene Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Lamp, who retired from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in Newark as a customer service representative with 23 years of service, died June 19, 2003, at her residence. She was born April 4, 1950, in Zanesville, to the late Edwin and Mary Agnes Green Wilson.

Mrs. Lamp was employee of the quarter for the State of Ohio and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, former member of the TAC of Thornville and Golden Riders Association. She was a 1968 graduate of Sheridan High School.

She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Lamp Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Brittany A. and Scott Sprankle of Hebron; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin E. Lewis of Springfield, Ohio, Keith A. and Kimberly Lewis of Canal Winchester, and Kurt A. Lewis of Hebron; grandson, Ian Patrick Lewis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita Brooks of Gahanna, Joann and Dennis Sweeney of Somerset, Karen Wilson and her fiancé, Bill Maloney of Annandale, Va., and Bonnie and Rick Robertson of Thornville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold "Skip" and Juanita Wilson of Brandywine, Md., James and Joanie Wilson of Somerset, Richard and Joyce Wilson of Thornville, and David and Patty Wilson of Somerset; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Teri Wilson; and niece, Jennifer Wilson.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, 203 S. Columbus St., Somerset.

A vigil service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be given to Hospice of Central Ohio, Newark, or Perry County Cancer Fund.

Paul D. Geis

May 23, 1916-June 18, 2003

A graveside service for Paul D. Geis, 87, of Johnstown, will be held at 2 p.m. today in Pataskala Cemetery, with Pastor Dennis Witt officiating.

Mr. Geis died June 18, 2003, at the Pataskala Oaks Care Center. He was born May 23, 1916, in Midvale, Ohio, to the late Walter and Flossie (Davis) Geis. Orphaned at an early age he and his brother, Forrest, were raised by his uncle William and aunt Audra Geis in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

He is survived by his three daughters, Merry (Richard) Harrold of Preston, Idaho, Dorothea (Ric) Angel of Nashville, Tenn., and Paula (William) McMullin of Argonia, Kan.; son, Charles Geis of Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and aunt and uncle, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellenor Adella (Close) Geis, whom he married on June 12, 1936; one brother; and one granddaughter.

Friends may call from 1 to 1:45 p.m. today at the Kauber-Miller Funeral Home, Pataskala.

Betty L. Breeden

April 10, 1944-June 19, 2003

A funeral service for Betty L. Breeden, 59, of Buckeye Lake, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Dresden Cemetery.

Mrs. Breeden, a retired home health aide, died June 19, 2003, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. She was born April 10, 1944, in Grafton, to the late Ralph and Gertrude (Rundle) Hopkins.

Mrs. Breeden was an avid gardener and homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Rachelle Cunningham and Frank Pattison of Newark; stepdaughter, Delores "Peg" Jones of Dresden; two stepsons, Robert (Dee) Breeden of Newark, and Donald (Ann) Breeden of Dresden; special friends, Gerlene Stewart and Joann Peters; four grandchildren, Richard and Justin Cunningham and Ashley and Cody Pattison; and several stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold R. Breeden, who died on Feb. 10, 1991; two stepdaughters; and one stepson.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Anna Lillian Ricketts

Oct. 18, 1913-June 19, 2003

A funeral service for Anna Lillian Ricketts, 89, of Thornville, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Thornville Chapel of Boring-Sheridan Funeral Home, with Pastor Debbie Kitcham officiating. Burial will be in the New Lexington Cemetery.

Mrs. Ricketts, a member of the Thornville United Methodist Church, died June 19, 2003, at Heath Nursing Care Center. She was born Oct. 18, 1913, in Shawnee, Ohio, to the late Jonah and Ida Lillian Griffith.

Mrs. Ricketts is survived by her son Robert R. Ricketts, of Columbus; and daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Mike Thieken, of Glenford; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill Edward Ricketts, who passed away in 1989; and three brothers, Stanley, Clarence, and Earl.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 56 S. Main St., Thornville.

Robert "Cooper" Swick Jr.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Robert "Cooper" Swick Jr., 64, of St. Louisville, who died June 20, 2003, at his residence.

April 27, 1939-June 20, 2003

A funeral service for Robert "Cooper" Swick, Jr., 64, of St. Louisville, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Minister Brian Priest officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Swick, a farmer and logger who owned Swick Timber Products, died June 20, 2003, at his residence. He was born April 27, 1939, in Mary Ann Township, to the late Robert C. and Herma Edith (Nethers) Swick, Sr.

Mr. Swick was a member of the Licking County Rural Electrification Board of Directors, the Licking County 4-H Horse Council, the Showtime 4-H Club Advisor, a member of Morgan Grange, a member of the Eden Church of Christ where he served as a past Deacon and Treasurer, a member and competitor in the Barrel Horse Association, a member and competitor in the American Quarter Horse Association, and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by one son, Robert Thurman (Debbie) Swick, of St. Louisville; two daughters, Nancy Annette (Jerry) Dugan, of Newark, and Heather Marie Swick, of St. Louisville; three sisters, Jan (Brian) Ward, of Newark, Vivian (Rube) Gayheart, of St. Louisville, and Sharon (Leo) Sweet, of Las Vegas; two brothers, Jack (Carol) Swick, of Utica, and John (Lisa) Swick, of Heath; grandchildren, Laura Dugan, Shawn Dugan, Amber Somers, Chad Somers, Robert Swick, Raymond Swick, Jeanetta Swick, and Randy Swick; great-grandchildren, Haley Campolo, Emily Taylor, Cody Untied and Dakota Somers; special friend, Linda Weiland, of Centerburg; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Holmes) Swick Sayre, who passed away Sept. 14, 1999; and his grandparents.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.
