Virginia R. Crist

A funeral service for Virginia R. Crist, 72, of Thornville, will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Thornville United Methodist Church with Pastor Deborah Ketcham officiating. Burial will follow at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery.
Virginia R. Crist, who was born Aug. 30, 1930, in Cowen, W.Va., to the late Jonas M. and Nellie D. (Swecker) Atkinson, died Aug. 8, 2003, at Heartland-Fairfield Nursing Center in Pleasantville.
Mrs. Crist was a member of the Thornville United Methodist Church, where she served as organist and on numerous committees. She was a member of the Thornville American Legion Post No. 342 Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star Lodge No. 156 of Thornville, and Madonna O.C.C.L. Mothers Club. She was a teller at National City Bank and retired in 1991.
She is survived by daughters, Melody G. (Lee) Crader, Rebecca I. (Tim) Phipps, and Marlene E. (Dana) Pfiefer, all of Thornville, and Cheryl M. (Mike) Butts of Perry, Ga.; son, Jeffrey L. Cunningham of Newark; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Eula Mae Lane of Kent, Charlotte E. McClung of Summersville, W.Va., Joan M. (Earl) Lucas of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Barbara (Steve) Henry of Hurricane, W.Va.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crist was preceded in death by husbands, Edwin Cunningham, who died in 1990; Bryan Orr, who died in 1993; and Paul Crist who died in 2003.
Calling hours are from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Boring-Sheridan Funeral Home, Thornville, and from noon to the time of service on Tuesday at the church.

Harold E. Wood

A funeral service for Harold E. Wood, 62, of Thornville, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Robert L. Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
Mr. Wood, who retired in 1989 as a lineman for Rockwell International after 30 years of service, died Aug. 9, 2003, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster. He was born Dec. 29, 1940, in Zanesville, to the late Roy and Martha (Burns) Wood.
Mr. Wood also worked for Goodwill Industries.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Moomaw) Wood, whom he married on April 1, 1991; daughters, Marie and Elaine Woods of Newark, and Cindy (John) Hughes of Newark; son, James Robert (Crissie) Wood of Newark; stepchildren, Floyd (Sharon) Dalton of Newark, John (Mary) Dalton of Thornville, Catherine Dalton of Jacksontown, and Danny Dalton of Marion; sister, Pam (David) Trubee of Frazeysburg; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John "Burl" and Danny Wood.

Richard L. Higgins

A funeral service for Richard L. Higgins, 69, of Columbus, formerly of Croton, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian Groves officiating. Burial will follow in Trenton Cemetery.
Mr. Higgins, an Army veteran, died Aug. 10, 2003. He was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Trenton Township, to the late Arthur J. and Catherine L. Higgins.
Mr. Higgins was a builder through most of his life, and a former member of the Ohio Harness Association.
He is survived by his three children, Arthur S. Higgins, Jeffrey L. Higgins and Lisa M. Noel, all of Columbus; brothers and sisters, Roger (Bonnie) Higgins of East Alton, Ill., Roland (Terri) Higgins, Juanita (Wendall) Davidson and Carolyn (Allen) Kenny, all of Sunbury; brother-in-law, Wayne Judy of Croton; grandchildren, Mary, Jennifer, Catherine, Zach and Ashley; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Naomi Judy and Emma Eileen.

Geraldine 'Geri' H. Stutesman

A memorial service for Geraldine "Geri" H. Stutesman, 83, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Newark, with the Rev. Craig Jones officiating.
Mrs. Stutesman, who moved to Newark in 1976, died Aug. 10, 2003, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. She was born Oct. 28, 1919, in St. Louis, Mich., to the late Delbert F. and Orval P. (Rosenberger) Humm.
Mrs. Stutesman worked at Dow Chemical in Midland, Mich., in the communication department for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for 27 years, where she was a member of Miriam Circle, Chancel Guild, Unity Reading Circle and the Emmaus Community.
She is survived by her husband, Don Stutesman, whom she married on June 7, 1947; sons and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kathryn Stutesman of Dallas, Texas, and Greg Stutesman of Newark; and two stepgrandchildren, Holly Berry of Austin, Texas, and Christian Berry of San Antonio, Texas.

Franklin Smith

A funeral service for Franklin Smith, 79, of Heath, formerly of Pleasantville and Carroll, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sheridan Funeral Home, with Pastor Lonny J. Aleshire officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, where military honors will be provided by the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail.
Mr. Smith, a retired assembler for Artromick Int. in Columbus, died Aug. 9, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was also a retired farmer, and a member of Licking Baptist Church in Hebron. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Clayton and Deborah Smith of Heath, George "Bubbles" and Debbie Smith of Rushville, and Dayton Smith of Roseville; daughter and son-in-law, Patty (Smith) and Ralph England of Heath; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three sisters; three brothers; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Smith; his parents; one sister; and one brother.

A funeral service for Norma A. Dunlap, 76, of Chandlersville, formerly of White Cottage, Crooksville and Newark, will be held at noon Thursday at the Apostolic Gospel Church in Zanesville, with the Rev. Larry D. Farris officiating. Burial will follow in Fultonham Cemetery.
Mrs. Dunlap, a member of the Apostolic Gospel Church, died Aug. 11, 2003, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Zanesville, to the late Alfred and Gertrude (Allen) Crane.
She is survived by her 10 children, Rev. Jim and Patricia Hall, missionaries in South Africa, Debra Lemmon of Zanesville, James and Janet Lewis of Newark, Roy Michael Dunlap of Zanesville, Gary and Dixie Smith of Newark, Dennis and Susan Smith of Chandlersville, Rev. Mark and Sue Dunlap of Taylor, Mich., Jackie Sowers of Mount Vernon, Tamara Fischer of the home, and Terry Dunlap of Zanesville; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, June Bash of Norwich; and many nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Dunlap, in 1998; son, Jerry Dunlap, in 1994; grandson, William Sowers, in 1983; and four brothers.

Mrs. Bolander, a homemaker, died Aug. 10, 2003, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. She was born March 22, 1919, in Dayton.
Mrs. Bolander was a member of the Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church and the LICCO Parents Group.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, William B. and Bonnie Diehl of Newark, James E. and Marcella Diehl of Hardinsburg, Ky., and John W. Bolander of the home; grandchildren, Cheri Caudell of Heath, Mike (Karen) Diehl of Bradenburg, Ky., Dee Diehl of Newark, Lisa (Joe) Hagman of Hawesville, Ky., Laura (Greg) Robinson of Leitchfield, Ky., Bert Carter of Newark, and Gina Diehl-Carter of Newark; great-grandchildren, DJ Caudell of Indiana, Nicole, Ashley and Gavin Caudell of Heath, Callie and Andrew Hagman of Kentucky, Zachary and Camron Robinson of Kentucky, and Brianna and Makalea Carter of Newark; one great-great-grandchild, Kendra Caudell of Indiana; and special friends, Roberta Myers, Sara Petty, Rosalie Wills, nurses and aides on the Rehabilitation Unit at Newark Healthcare Centre.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ella Miller; husband, Frederick E. "Fritz" Bolander; and grandson, Mark Diehl.
