Jeffery R. Workman

A funeral for Jeffery R. Workman, 45, of Newark, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Workman, a construction worker, died Aug. 28, 2003, at the Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 23, 1957, in Newark, Ohio, to Penelope "Nellie" (Adkins) Workman and to the late Cleve Workman.
Mr. Workman enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.
He is survived by his son, Matthew (Amber) Workman of Newark; brothers, Danny Workman of Newark, sister, Kim (Glenn) Lovell of Newark, granddaughter, Darien Workman of Newark, seven nieces and one nephew.
He is preceded in death by his wife Paula Ann (Patterson) Workman; three brothers Terry Lee Workman, Richard Workman, and Michael Workman.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.
Michael L. Hoskinson
Jan. 25, 1948-Aug. 27, 2003
A funeral service for Michael L. Hoskinson, 55, of Gratiot, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Brother Roger Decker officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Forks Cemetery with a military graveside service.
Mr. Hoskinson was a lifelong resident of Licking County and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam and was honorably discharged. After his discharge from the military, Mr. Hoskinson served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Licking County Sheriff's Department and went on to work at the Newark Air Force Base and Boeing.
Mr. Hoskinson passed away on Aug. 27, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital following a sudden and unexpected illness.
Michael was a music enthusiast, particularly the Beatles. He taught himself to play the guitar and enjoyed sharing his talents with family and friends.
Mr. Hoskinson was a loving father.
He is survived by three daughters, Melissa (Howard) Clendenin of Medina, Marla Hoskinson and her fiancé Scott McGraw of Pickerington, and Keeley Hoskinson of Bon Aire, Ga.; son, Zachary Hoskinson also of Bon Aire, Ga.; mother, Helen Hoskinson of Newark; and grandson, Michael Clendenin of Medina.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Lee Hoskinson; and his brother, Harry Lee Hoskinson.

Dorothy M. Roach
Sept. 16, 1926 -- Aug. 29, 2003
A graveside service for Dorothy M. Roach, 76, will be held Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Rauch and Vicar Jon Kibler-McCabe officiating.
Mrs. Roach, an assistant manager for the Lawson Milk Co., passed away Aug. 29, 2003, at the Arlington Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Licking County, to the late Ross M. and Anna (Frampton) VanWinkle.
Mrs. Roach was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary/COOTIES.
She is survived by her son David B. (Carolyn) Roach of Columbus; and sisters Lois Ann (Chuck) Meyers of Newark and Emma Jean Wright of Newark and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband Bruce N. Roach in 1983.

Elma Eileen Wilson
March 31, 1935-Aug. 28, 2003
Elma Eileen Wilson, 68, of Zanesville, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 at Willow Haven Nursing Facility in Zanesville.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, Sept. 1 at 12 p.m. at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel with Dr. Michael F. Morgan officiating. Interment will be in Wilson Cemetery.
She was born March 31, 1935 to the late Albert and Hazel (Delancey) Wilson.
She was a housekeeper a several motels including Travalodge in Zanesville and at ODC Nursing Homes.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law: Charles Enoch and Terina Stevens, Jr and Jeffrey Stevens; daughters and sons-in-law: Deborah (Lynn) Stevens, Connie and Mark Crawmer and Felicia and Jayson St. Pierre; nine grandchildren: Angela (Bill) Phillips, Chad Stevens, Justin Crawmer, Brandy Crawmer, Juleigh Lizotte, Claudia St. Pierre, Kira McDonough, Sean McDonough and Brittany McDonough; Sisters: June Giblin, Virginia Ann (Robert) Sears, Geraldine (Charles) Williams, Winifred Stirk; Brothers: Frank Wilson, Pat Wilson, Fred (Jenny) Wilson.
Elma was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, David Wilson, Gene Wilson and George Wilson.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 to 12 p.m.
Randy (Paul R.) Kelly
March 10, 1955-Aug. 29, 2003
A funeral service for Randy (Paul R.) Kelly, age 48, of Pickerington, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Peace United Methodist Church, 235 Diley Rd., in Pickerington, with the Rev. James Riggs officiating. Interment will follow in Millersport Cemetery.
Mr. Kelly died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital following a courageous seven-year battle with colorectal cancer.
Born March 10, 1955, in Washington Court House, to the late Orlyn A. & Helen L. (Cameron) Kelly, he moved to Millersport and was a 1973 graduate of Millersport High School.
He received his B.S. in business administration from Ohio University in 1978.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jo Anne (Clutter) Kelly; daughter Sara Elizabeth Kelly; son Michael Paul Kelly, both of the home; sisters Terri (Joe) D'Orsaneo, Lakeland, FL, Patti (Greg) McDermott, McConnellsville, Tammy Kelly, Newark; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was co-owner and President of Kelly & Askew, Inc., a commercial door company in Groveport, and was formerly an employee of Kinnear and of Wayne Dalton Company, Columbus. During 15 years with these organizations he served as Service Manager, Marketing Manager, and Branch Manager.
An active member of Peace United Methodist Church, Randy served as Lay Leader and Chairman of the Missions Committee. He was deeply involved with Habitat for Humanity, Beckley, WV Youth Center, and other Missions projects.
A loving and supportive father who coached PYAA soccer, baseball and basketball, he was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Pickerington Marching Band. Never was there a better friend, a more loving Christian father, or a more avid Buckeye Lake boating enthusiast than Randy Kelly. Other hobbies included hunting, fishing and golf.
Friends may visit 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 550 Hill Road N. (St. Rt. 256), Pickerington.

Kenneth L. Bland

A memorial service for Kenneth L. Bland, 53, of Thornville, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 E. Main St., in Reynoldsburg.
Mr. Bland, born Kenneth L. McAfee on Oct. 9, 1949, in Elanor, W.Va., died Aug. 26, 2003. He was a United States Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran, for which he received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation and Purple Heart.
A member of the Reynoldsburg VFW Post 9473, he is survived by wife, Becky Bland; daughter, Bridgette (Bland) Bozman; stepson, John R. Downs; son, Lee Stewart; stepdaughter, Justine Downs; stepson, Joseph Downs; daughter, Dawn McAfee-Bland; son, Kenneth McAfee-Bland Jr.; and seven grandchildren.
He is also survived by father, Percey McAfee; mother, Faye Stonerock; brothers and sisters, Carolyn (Stonerock) Downing, Kris (Stonerock) Merz, Kim (Stonerock) Sharp, Steve Stonerock, Randy Stonerock, Earnest Bland, Donnie Stonerock Jr., Barbara (McAfee) Adkins, Larry, Roger and Johnny McAfee.

George W. Applegarth
Aug. 21, 1927-Aug. 28, 2003
A funeral service for George W. Applegarth, 76, of Nashport, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bolin Funeral Home, Zanesville, with the Rev. Tom England officiating. Burial will follow at Irville Cemetery, Nashport. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will have military rites at the grave site.
Mr. Applegarth died at 12:25 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Aug. 21, 1927, in Pleasant Grove, Ohio, a son of the late Benjamin W. and Mayme Ostroski Applegarth.
He retired from the Newark Air Force Station after 34 years of service. He served three years in the Merchant Marines, starting at age 16, with his parents' approval. At the end of that tour, he joined the U.S. Air Force, was a veteran of World War II and was honorable discharged in 1949.
George was a member of Nashport-Irville United Methodist Church, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a charter member of the Buckeye Big Bucks Club. He was also a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 764, in Hanover, Irville Lodge 184 Nashport, member and past monarch of Amrou Grotto 45, Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge and VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Vivian M. DeVault Applegarth, whom he married Jan. 1, 1950, of the home; two daughters, Debbie (Bob) Swingle, of Zanesville, and Vicki (Steve) Paisley, of Dresden; three grandchildren, Jamie Applegarth, of Pataskala, Sarah and Steve Paisley, of Dresden; one niece and great nephew of Martins Ferry; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by his sister, Ruth Bethel.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at the funeral home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. American Legion Post 764, of Hanover, will hold services at 6 p.m., Irville Lodge 184 Nashport will hold services at 6:15 p.m., followed by Amrou Grotto 45 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Dorothy Jean Nichols
Nov. 17, 1923-Aug. 30, 2003
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Jean Nichols, 79, of Newark, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with Rev. Robert Penhallurick officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Ms. Nichols, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died August 30, 2003, in the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Newark, to the late William P. and Clara M. (Underiner) Phelan.
Dorothy, an avid bridge player, was retired from County Savings Bank, where she worked as a bank teller for many years. She had also worked as a teller at First National Bank.
Dorothy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, J. Timothy and Karen Nichols of Frazeysburg, and Michael and Lynne Nichols of Newark; her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and James Shimonis of Pittston, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Rachel, Kevin and Kelly Nichols, James Shimonis, Joshua Shimonis, and Jessica and David Moore, Justin Shimonis, Troy and Alicia Nichols; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Olivia and Ethan; her sister, Juanita Mehler of Sarasota Springs, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Nichols, in 1993; and two brothers, Paul and Bill Phelan.
Friends will be received at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 N. Green Wave Drive, Newark, from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Vigil Service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.
