A funeral service for A. Irene Goodwin, 86, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home with the Pastor Winfield Strout officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark

A. Irene Goodwin, age 86, of Newark, died suddenly Saturday, August 30, 2003, at The Ohio State University Medical Center from complications of heart and kidney failure. Born March 27, 1917, to the late Olonzo Lawrence and Edna Whiteman in Shinnston, West Virginia. Graduate of Albany High School in Athens County, where she met her beloved husband Lawrence E. Goodwin.

Celebrated 66th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2003. Proud mother, wife and homemaker who was heavily involved with her children as an active participant of the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, PTA and other elements of their childhood including extensive travel throughout the United States.

Sales associate for John J. Carroll's Department Store in Newark for 10 years. Member of St. John's United Church of Christ, 285 West National Drive in Newark, where she enjoyed the Women's Circle, various church activities and numerous friends for more than 50 years.

Preceded in death by brother Donald Whiteman and sisters Virginia Grigsby, Mildred Storch, Dortha Michaels and Ruth Whiteman, and sisters-in-law Margaret Fekete and Marjorie Goodwin.

Survived by husband, Lawrence E. Goodwin, daughters Jacqueline Lee (Harry) Steeves of Anchorage, Alaska; Ruth Anna (Douglas) Cromwell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and son Joseph Lawrence (Carol Kuhman) Goodwin of Dublin, Ohio; grandchildren Scott (Amber) Cromwell, Hope Elizabeth (Eric) Hamre, Anna Paige Steeves, Todd Owen Steeves, Holly Jean (David Little) Steeves; greatgrandchildren Anna Marie Hamre, Leah Jean Hamre and Noah Todd Hamre; sister Margaret Jean Steward; brother-in-law Arnold Goodwin and Walter Grigsby; sister-in-law Betty Jane Prince; numerous nieces and nephews, lifelong friends in Newark and Athens County; and new friends at Trillium Place, Columbus.

Friends may call at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 North 21st Street, Newark, Wednesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to St. John's United Church of Christ, the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.

Angela M. Shrider

Jan. 1, 1975-Aug. 29, 2003

A funeral service for Angela M. Shrider, 28, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.

Mrs. Shrider, a manager at Wal-Mart, died Aug. 29, 2003, at the Ohio State University Medical Center from results of a traffic accident on Ohio 16 and Dayton Road on her way to work at Wal-Mart. She was born Jan. 1, 1975, in Zanesville to James and Cindy (Waits) Sandlin.

Mrs. Shrider was a Licking Valley High School graduate.

She is survived by her husband, Samuel James "Jim" Shrider of Newark; three children, Brittany M., Justin James and Kendra Shrider all of the home; two sisters, Cathy L. Sandlin of Hanover and Elicia Sue Sandlin of Newark; maternal grandparents, Marion and Joyce Waits of Norwalk; paternal grandparent Evelyn Sandlin of New Lexington; mother-in-law, Connie Rice; sister-in-law, Lynn (Bill) McGuire; brother-in-law, Kenny Rice; brother-in-law, Michael (Racheal) Shrider all of Newark; aunts and uncles, Lois J. Sandlin, Sara (Skip) Saffell, Robert (Mary) Sandlin, Donald (Nancy) Sandlin, and Mary Waddle all of New Lexington, Becky (Larry) Mesuard and Judy (Tom) Greilick all of Monroeville; nephews, Dustin and Brandon Wills both of Newark; nieces, Skylar and Kylie Sandlin both of Newark; many close cousins; and special friend, Tammy Litten of Newark.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Kenneth E. Rice Sr.; grandfather, Donald Sandlin Sr.; aunt, Debbie Sandlin and uncle Ed Sandlin.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Contributions may be made to any Park National Bank in Angela's name.

Oscar D. Sines Sr.

Jan. 1, 1913-Aug. 30, 2003

A funeral service for Oscar D. Sines, Sr., age 90, of Heath, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, at the First Baptist Church of Heath, 525 South 30th St., with the Rev. John Heading officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Sines, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, died August 30, 2003, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born January 1, 1913, in Pickens, West Virginia to the late Pharis Martin Sines and Enda (Benett) Sines.

Mr. Sines retired from the United Mine Workers in 1952 and from Rockwell International in 1975. He was a member of the V.F.W. No. 771 in Heath.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Alice (Singleton) Sines; sons and daughters-in-law:

Don and Connie Sines, Ronald M. and Sharon Sines, and Thomas W. and Linda Sines, all of Heath; seven grandchildren, Terri (Mike) Frenton and Julie (Phil) Snider, all of Newark; Rick (Julie) Sines, Rob (Mindy) Sines, Aimee Sines and Adam J. "A.J." Sines, all of Heath; and Chad (Brandi) Sines of Pickerington; eleven great-grandchildren, Brad (Stacey) Fenton, Brandi (Brian) Snow, Jared Snider, Madison Sines, Regan Sines, Ashley Sines, Amanda Sines, Kelsey Sines, Chloe Sines, Taliah Horne and Jesse Garrette; great-great-grandchildren, Alexis Frenton and Brianna Snow; sister, Evelyn (Rev. Clyde) Bartlette of Heath; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Heath Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, 1249 Hebron Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio.

Charles Leroy DeBoard

Oct. 18, 1938-Aug. 30, 2003

Charles Leroy DeBoard, 64, of Newark, died Aug. 30, 2003, in Newark.

He was born Oct. 18, 1938, in Lizemore, W.Va.

With the wishes of Mr. DeBoard, there will be no calling hours or services observed.

Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Steve Girard

May 21, 1943-Aug. 30, 2003

A memorial service for Steve Girard, 60, of Granville, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Granville with the Rev. Karen J. Chakoian officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.

Mr. Girard, who was the founder of Darby Homes in Columbus, died Aug. 30, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Ill. He was born May 21, 1943, in Columbus.

Mr. Girard was a graduate of Whitehall-Yearling High School in Columbus, attended the Ohio State University and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Mr. Girard was an active member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of E.S.D.C. in Columbus, and was a former member of the Columbus Jaycees. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Granville Public Library and on the Granville Township Zoning Commission.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Sarah S. (Latimer) Girard; son, John Girard of Chicago, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Julianna and Jim Holibaugh of Lewis Center; mother, Donna (Fouty) Girard of Worthington; brothers and sister-in-law, Jay Girard of Worthington and Jess and Christy Girard of Worthington; sister, Jill Girard of Blanchester; mother-in-law, Cary Belle Latimer of Mansfield; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marianna and Jim Basting of Mansfield; uncle, Ted Girard of Columbus; several cousins, including Judy McLean of Columbus; several nieces and nephews; and family friend, Lynn Martin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Girard; grandfather, J.J. Girard; and father-in-law, Richard E. Latimer.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at McPeek Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville, OH 43023.

Collin Nicholas Carpenter

Aug. 27, 2003-Aug. 29, 2003

A funeral service for Collin Nicholas Carpenter, infant son of Justin Carpenter and Ashley Gant of Heath, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Boggs officiating. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery.

Collin was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at the O.S.U Medical Center. He was born on Aug. 27, 2003, in Columbus.

Collin is survived by his parents, paternal grandparents, Donna and Rick Arbaugh of Zanesville; maternal grandmother, Penny Gant of Heath; paternal great-grandparents, Darrel and Peggy Freeze of Heath; maternal great-grandmother, Carol and the late Clyde Gant of Heath; aunts and uncles, Elizabeth Arbaugh, Bobby Farmer, Kayla Farmer, Nicole Farmer and Thomas Gant; great-aunts and uncles, Arthur (Teresa) Carpenter, Tim (Denise) Hoskinson, Thomas Freeze, Claire Gant, Clyde (Misty) Gant and Kathy (Paul) Sandbrink.

Friends may call on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Russell Lee Sparks

June 6, 1946-Aug. 29, 2003

A funeral service for Russell Lee Sparks, 57, of Sunbury, formerly of Alexandria, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Rector officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Alexandria.

Mr. Sparks died Aug. 29, 2003, at his residence. He was born June 6, 1946, in Dayton.

Mr. Sparks was employed by Jess Howard Electrical Co. for 33 years. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict, where he served as a corporal. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Delaware, and was an amateur radio operator.

He is survived by two sons, Russell E. (Rebecca) Sparks of Johnstown, and Tyson L. (Tammy) Sparks of Newark; daughter, Doreen Patrick of Windham, Maine; father, Walter Russell Sparks of Florida; brother, Walter Sparks of Reynoldsburg; sister, Laura Margoliz of Mount Sterling; four grandchildren; special friend, Bonnie Chandler; and special pet, Sparks Von "Dukie-Duke."

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sparks; and mother, Elizabeth Pendleton Sparks.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown.

Frances O. Wolford

Feb. 13, 1923-Sept. 13, 1923

A funeral service for Frances O. Wolford, 80, of Dresden, formerly of Frazeysburg, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.

Mrs. Wolford died at 5:50 a.m., Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at the Coshocton Health Care Center. She was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Frazeysburg. She was the daughter of the late Max and Margaret (Horner) Lemert and was a homemaker.

Surviving is one daughter, Donna (Harlan) Myers of Frazeysburg; one sister, Betty (Roy Jr.) Myers of Toboso; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Wolford, whom she married Feb. 20, 1945, and who died Sept. 15, 1984; two daughters, Rose Arbuckle and Carol Sadd; and three sisters, Nellie Addis, Marion Thorp and Maxine Lemert.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 Third Street, Frazeysburg.
