Margaret Mary Whitson

A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Mary Whitson, 95, of Heath will be held at the St. Leonard Catholic Church at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, with the Rev. Ronald Boccali officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua, Ohio.
Ms. Whitson died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at the Heath Nursing Care Center. She was born Dec. 14, 1907, in Piqua, Ohio, to the late John and Mary Elizabeth (Gutmann) Kimmes.
Margaret worked for many years in payroll at Hobart Manufacturing in Troy, Ohio. She was a member of St. Leonard Catholic Church, and the PIME Guild.
Margaret is survived by her son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Jim and Carol Watercutter of Heath, Ohio; four grandchildren and spouses, Bill and Beth Watercutter of Columbus, Ohio, Kevin and Sheila Watercutter of Tennessee, Leigh Ann and John Lutz of Newark, Ohio, and Brian and Amy Watercutter of Maryland; seven great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chet and Doris Whitson of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Whitson in 1976; daughter, Joanne (Whitson) Watercutter, in 1987; sister, Anna Hoffman; and several brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Friends will be received at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 56 Dorsey Mill Road, Heath, for one hour prior to Funeral Mass on Tuesday.
The family requests memorials to Hospice of Central Ohio.

Nancy Lantz

A graveside funeral service for Nancy Lantz, 65, of Granville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Newark Memorial Gardens with Ruth Elliot officiating. Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Lantz worked as an office worker at an insurance company, a Christian Science Nurse at Glenmont Nursing Home, Christian Science Reader at the Church of Christ Scientist, and member of Church of Christ Scientist in Newark.
She is survived by her husband, John Lantz of Granville; daughter, Jennifer (Malcolm) Sheeley of Springdale, Ark.; sister, Charlotte (Edward) Glover of Indiana; brothers, Edward (Carrol) Pickering of Fredericktown and Jerry (Shirley) Pickering of Lancaster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Gladys Pickering; and two brothers, Robert and Donald.

Charles Homer Price
Oct. 19, 1918-Sept. 5, 2003
A memorial service for Charles Homer Price, 84, of Columbus, formerly of Newark, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Second Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Mitch Van Metre officiating.
Mr. Price, a veteran of the Army Air Corp during World War II, died Sept. 5, 2003, at St. Ann's Hospital. He was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Elyria, Ohio, to the late Charles H. Price, Sr. and Grace (Naylor) Price.
He was a graduate of Elyria High School and attended Cornell University prior to his military service. He worked at Harshaw Chemical in Cleveland for 20 years and, in 1965, came to Newark and opened the Ohio 70/37 Truck Stop.
He was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church, where he was a trustee. He served on the board of Licking Memorial Hospital and was a past president of the National Association of Truck Stop Operators (NATSO).
He is survived by: Wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Miller) Price; son & daughter-in-law, Buzz & Mary Ellen Price, of Newark; daughters, Kathleen Price of Oakland, Calif., and Barbara Sheppard, of Columbus; seven grandchildren; brother & sister-in-law, John & Mac Price, of Kingston, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
One brother, Robert, is deceased.
The family will receive friends after the service Monday in the church dining room.

Kristi M. Fulton Cairnes

A memorial service for Kristi Fulton Cairnes, 34, of Portland, Texas, formerly of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Thomas Friend officiating.
Kristi passed away suddenly on Aug. 28, 2003, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born Feb. 25, 1969, in Newark, to Wilbur W. Fulton and Mary Ann Dunlap Fulton.
Mrs. Cairnes was employed by the North Shore Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Norman "Kyle" Cairnes; brother, Randy (Elaine) Slusher of Mize, Miss.; sisters, Kelly Lott and Colleen Fulton, both of Newark; children, Amanda Fulton, Angela and Andrew Watson of Newark; grandson, Trey Allen Bennett of Martinsburg; grandparents, Dora and Wilbur Fulton Sr. of Heath; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Lisa Marvin and Laura Talliancich.
John B. Valentine

A funeral service for John B. Valentine, 80, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert L. Knox officiating. Burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Valentine, who retired from Holophane as a glass worker after 38 years, died Sept. 3, 2003, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Columbus, to the late Harry Clifton and Dora (Bowen) Valentine.
Mr. Valentine was a member of the American Legion in Newark, VFW of Baltimore, Maryland, the Buckeye Lake Eagles, and the Fairfield Fish and Game. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta (Marshall) Valentine of Newark; son, James B. (Sara) Valentine of Florida; daughter, Connie J. Wood of Newark; sister, Mary Gallop of Montana; brother, Howard E. Valentine of Newark; grandchildren, Kevin J. Valentine of Newark, Ja G. Valentine of Florida, and Emily J. Gilner of North Carolina; and four great-grandsons.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Martha (McCray) Sperry
June 6, 1910-Sept. 4, 2003
A graveside service for Martha (McCray) Sperry, 93, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Joseph Leonard officiating.
Mrs. Sperry, a 1931 graduate of Denison University, died Sept. 4, 2003, at The Inn at Sharon Brook. She was born June 6, 1910, in Newark, to the late Jesse McCray and Mary (Scott) McCray.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newark, and a fifty plus year member of Monday Talks. She was past president of Twig 7 and the Twig Board of Licking Memorial Hospital. She was also very supportive of the Licking County Historical Society.
Surviving are her son, Dr. David R. Sperry of Newark; daughter, Barbara Sperry Hamilton of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, on May 31, 1981; and one sister.

Mary L. Benjamin Gifford

A funeral service for Mary L Benjamin Gifford, 79, of Malta, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Matheney Funeral Home, with Evangelist Randy Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Pennsville Cemetery.
Mrs. Gifford, a homemaker, died Sept. 3, 2003, at the Markrest Center in McConnelsville. She was born July 16, 1924, in Pennsville, to the late Lee and Eva (Carr) Benjamin.
Mrs. Gifford was a member of the Pennsville Church of Christ, Newton Ridge Grange 1461, Morgan County Farm Bureau and Embree Guild CCL.
She is survived by her three sons, Steve (Louise) Gifford of Heath, Tom (Gloria) Gifford of Pennsville, and Rick (Maggi) Gifford of Glouster; two daughters, Diana (Richard) Ross of Malta, and Marie (Ron) Logan of Ripley, W.Va.; brother, John Benjamin of Malta; two sisters, Carol Roberts of Reno, Nev., and Bernita Dunn of Malta; 11 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry D. Gifford, on Sept. 22, 1995; and one brother, Lee Benjamin Jr.

Julius White Blum
July 22, 1930-Sept. 6, 2003
A private graveside service for Julius White Blum, 73, of Granville, will be held at a later date.
Mr. Blum, architect and chairman of the board of the Briar Hill Stone Company in Glenmont, died Sept. 6, 2003, following a very long illness. He was born July 22, 1930, in Cleveland, to the late Jeannette (White) and Chester Budd Blum.
Mr. Blum graduated cum laude in 1954 from Miami University in Oxford and received the William McLeish Dunbar Honor Award. He was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Delta Phi Delta honorary societies and member, and past president, of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army.
"Jude" or "Spooge," as he was called, was a very private man with a wonderful sense of humor. He had a great love for his family, friends, architecture, golf and travel.
An architect for 50 years, he will be remembered for his extensive work in library design; including the Granville Public Library and Granville Library Court, Emerson R. Miller Branch Library in Newark, Chillicothe Library, Sabina Library, Marion Library, Hudson Library and many others. He also designed The Inn at Honey Run in Millersburg. He received "First Honor" awards from the Architect's Society of Ohio for the Newark City Building and Millersburg Professional Building.
He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and member, and past president, of the Columbus Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
Local community activities included serving on the Newark Downtown Redevelopment Committee (1965), Newark Mayor's Citizen Advisory Committee (1965-69), the board of the Concert Association in Newark, board of Licking County Housing Authority, Architectural Review Board in Granville, Board of Trustees and Trustee Emeritus of Granville Public Library. He was a former member of 20/30 Club in Granville and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Granville.
Surviving are his devoted and loving wife, Carolyn (Acox) Blum; sons, Charles Blum of Chicago, Ill., Richard Blum of Cleveland, and Steven Blum of Forest Grove, Ore.; sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Marianne Blum of Danville, Ill., Alex and Tracy Blum of Pataskala, Philip and Lori Blum of Westerville, and Kevin and Anita Blum of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren; and sister, Jacqueline Brooke of Littleton, Colo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea Susan Blum Weis, who died in 1999.
To honor Mr. Blum's wishes, there will be no calling hours or memorial service.
The McPeek Funeral Home in Granville is assisting the family with arrangements.
