Albert "Bert" Barber, 93, of Norcross, Ga., died Sept. 13, 2003.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Sally Smith of Norcross, Ga., and Beth and Tom Dougherty of Pilot Hill, Calif.; and son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Paula Barber of Chalk Hill, Pa.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Tom M. Wages Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, Ga.

Story May Blubaugh

A graveside service for infant Story May Blubaugh will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Newark Memorial Gardens. Pastor John Heading will officiate.

She is survived by her parents, mother, Dana Michelle Craig of Thornville, and father, Jon Blubaugh of Mount Vernon; brothers, Koty Craig, Kole Craig and Derek Blubaugh; maternal grandparents, Patricia and Keith Shoults; maternal grandparents, Ron and Ruth Blubaugh; great-grandfather, Alton Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Charles A. Livingston

May 5, 1917-Sept. 15, 2003

A funeral service for Charles A. Livingston, 86, of Newark, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Knox officiating. Interment will follow in Rocky Fork Cemetery.

Mr. Livingston was born May 5, 1917, to the late Nimrod and Bessie (Hoyt) Livingston.

He was a retired engineer with the N&W Railroad. He was a World War II Army veteran and life member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V.

He is survived by a brother, Eugene Livingston of Newark; sisters, Beulah Roach of Pataskala and Pansy Ferrell of Columbus.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Cordis 'Cort' W. Webb

Nov. 10, 1921-Sept. 12, 2003

A funeral service for Cordis "Cort" W. Webb, 81, of North Port, Fla., will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Owl Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Heizer officiating. Burial will follow in Owl Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Webb, who retired from the Mount Vernon Developmental Center, Chatanooga Glass and Continental Can, died Sept. 12, 2003, at his residence. He was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Rock Island Quebec, Canada, to the late James W. and Gertrude M. (Bissell) Webb.

Mr. Webb was a member of Owl Creek Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was also a member of the Morgan Grange and Mohegan Men's Association.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Hewey) Webb, who he married on Feb. 1, 1959; son and daughter-in-law, William and Tina Webb of Martinsburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Earl Benge of Utica, Cathy and Jan Veenema of Walnut Cove, N.C., Karen and Jay Crouch of Mount Dora, Fla., and Linda and Phillip Wilson of Brattleboro, Vt.; brother, James and Mary Webb of Tennessee; sister, Edith Bryant of Alberta, Canada; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Debra Webb; and son-in-law, Martin Winkelman.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica.

Lewis T. Hill

Oct. 24, 1923-Sept. 15, 2003

A funeral service for Lewis T. Hill, 79, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Noble Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Hill was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Greensboro, Ala., to the late Monroe and Josephine (Abrams) Hill.

He was a World War II Army veteran. He was retired from Newark Asphalt Paving Co.

He is survived by daughters, Mary Farmer and Earnestine H. Allen, both of Newark, and Rosetta (Larry) Magwood of Columbus; sisters, Ruby Miles of Birmingham, Ala., and Sally Simmons of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; brother, Daniel Abrams of Buffalo, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna (Wollens) Hill, in 1961; and son, Monroe Hill.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Orena M. Haynes

Feb. 6, 1921-Sept. 14, 2003

A graveside service for Orena M. Haynes, 79, of Pataskala, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Kirkersville Cemetery, with Pastor Jane P. Mykrantz officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkersville Cemetery.

Mrs. Haynes, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Granville, died Sept. 14, 2003, at her residence. She was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Dollar County, Iowa, to the late Omar and Maude (Shelton) Marshall.

Mrs. Haynes was a graduate of Ross Township High School in Greene County, Ohio. She attended Cedarville College and was a graduate of The Ohio State University.

She taught home economics at Loveland High School and was employed by the Ohio Cooperative Extension Service as a home demonstration agent in Licking County (1944-57) and as a state specialist in textile and clothing until her retirement in 1977.

She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Granville, the Newark Soroptimist Club, the Fashion Group of Columbus and the American Home Economics Association.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Roger D. and Mary Haynes of Pataskala; former daughter-in-law and her spouse, Nancy and Richard Harmon of Pataskala; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Dean, Lee and Wayne Marshall; sister, Helen Bartley, all of Greene County, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul O. Haynes, in 1993; and by a son, Roy G. Haynes.

There will be no calling hours observed.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Granville or to a charity of one's choice.

Richard E. DeGarmo

Aug. 30, 1933-Sept. 16, 2003

A funeral service for Richard E. DeGarmo, 70, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home in Newark. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Tom Myers officiating with a military graveside service.

Mr. DeGarmo died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at his residence. He was born Aug. 30, 1933, in South Charleston, Ohio to the late Hobert and Margaret(Howell) DeGarmo.

Mr. DeGarmo worked at Grief Brothers as a machine operator, was a member of the American Legion of Hebron, Newark Fire Department at Forest Hills and Hebron Fire Department at Crystal Lakes in Brownsville, and was a past member of the Moose Lodge and golfed in two golf leagues. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Haynes) DeGarmo of Newark; sons, Dan DeGarmo of Columbus, Mark Degarmo of Winchester,Va., Brian DeGarmo of Newark, and Jeffrey Pritt of Newark; daughters, Diane Adams, Daphne Draper and Jacqueline Ritzius, all of Newark; brothers, Herman DeGarmo of Crooksville, Robert DeGarmo of Dayton, Raymond DeGarmo of Crooksville, and Marion DeGarmo of Zanesville; sisters, Elizabeth Flynn of Oklahoma City, Okla., Carolyn Kay Pride of Minnesota, and Eileen Jackson of Zanesville; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents and a sister, Betty Klinger

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Margaret Verba

Aug. 16, 1919-Sept. 16, 2003

A funeral service for Margaret Verba, 84, of Murray City, formerly of Cleveland, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of The Hills Catholic Church in Buchtel, Ohio, with the Rev. Father John Mucha officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, Ohio.

Mrs. Verba, a resident of Murray City for more than 50 years, died Sept. 16, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in Lima, Ohio. She was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Lakewood, Ohio, to the late Michael and Julia (Matlak) Nagy.

The Lakewood High School graduate attended the former St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Murray City for 45 years. She was a member of the St. Rozalie Society and the Murray City Senior Citizens. She was also a member of The St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church in Buchtel, and Murray City American Legion Auxiliary Post 420 for 25 years.

She and her late husband, Andy, owned and operated the former Tip Top Bar in Murray City for 25 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Judith (Ted) Canter of Lima, and Margaret Ann "Peggy" Elliott of McArthur; sons, Andrew (Cheryl) Verba Jr. of Newark, John (Laura) Verba of Houston, Texas, and Tim Verba of Cleveland; grandchildren, Chris (Carole) Canter, Scott (Kara) Canter, Candance (Michael) Wilcox of Lima, Michael Elliott and Brian (Seth) Elliott of McArthur; five great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and special friends, Mary Lou Jenkins of Murray City, and Sister Regina Wack of Nelsonville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Verba Sr., who passed away Nov. 1, 1989; sister, Elizabeth Edwards; brothers, John Nagy and Michael Nagy Sr.; and nephew, Michael Nagy Jr.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Brown Funeral Home, 14040 Locust St., Murray City, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m., and American Legion Auxiliary services at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
