Robert Owen Denny

A funeral service for Robert Owen Denny, 83, of New Lexington, Perry County, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Roberts Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Newlon officiating. Graveside military services will follow at New Lexington Cemetery.
Mr. Denny died at 2:16 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at his home on Ohio 13 in Clayton Township. He was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Rehobeth, Clayton Township, Perry County, to the late Robert Richard and Nellie Grace (Kokensparger) Denny.
Mr. Denny was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Lexington. He attended Somerset High School and was a graduate of New Lexington High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10918, Somerset, and the American Legion, Leo Ryan Post 58 in Somerset.
Over many decades, Robert worked the old fields of Perry and Noble counties, was a glazer at the Crooksville China, a route salesman through Clayton and Harrison townships for Lambs Dry Cleaners and retired after 20 years as an electronics technician at the Newark Air Force Station Aerospace Guidance Repair Facility.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Mae (Young) Denny; four sons, Ronald Dean (Carrie) Denny, of New Lexington, Donald Eugene (Nancy) Denny, of Columbus, Norman Louis Denny, of Thornville, and Mary Randall (Silver) Denny, of Columbus; one daughter, Roberta Sue McGee, of Lake Worth, Fla.; one sister, Grace Eileen Kokensparger, of Lancaster; one brother, Richard Louis (Gloria) Denny, of Hebron; one sister-in-law, Betty Jean (Young) Gordon, of Caldwell; one brother-in-law, Dr. Bobby Dean (Shirley) Young, of Zanesville; seven grandchildren, Robert Henry (Karen) Denny, of Baltimore, Michael Leslie (Teresa) Denny, of Marengo, Todd Andrew (Karen) Denny, of North Pole, Ak., Mark "Buckwheat" Allen (Sarah) Denny, of Tacoma, Wash., Roxanne R. McGee, of Boynton Beach, Fla., Jaclyn Renee Lester, of Newark, and Kara Nicole Denny, of Grove City; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 304 Mill St., New Lexington.

Von L. Green

A funeral service for Von L. Green, 73, of Utica, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Law-Baker Funeral Home, with Bruce Hissong officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Green, who retired from North Fork Schools, died Oct. 11, 2003, at Mount Carmel West in Columbus. He was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Garysville, Ohio, to the late Cecil and Olive B. (Hartshorn) Green.
Mr. Green was a member of Masonic Lodge 291 and past grand master.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley I. (Good) Green of Utica; son and daughter-in-law, Steven L. and Sharon Green of Utica; daughters, Stephanie Green and Patricia A. Clark, both of Utica; grandchildren, Earl Booth, Cassandra Clark and Heather Green; brothers, Roger (Pat) Green of Washington State, and Robert (Winifred) Green of Mount Vernon; and sister, Nancy Mallet of Belpre.

Lawrence 'Larry' Emery Fulkerson

A funeral service for Lawrence "Larry" Emery Fulkerson, 89, formerly of Muskingum Avenue in Zanesville, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bryan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Herb Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Fulkerson died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Muskingum County Home. He was born Feb. 23, 1914, in Zanesville, the son of the late Otto Clark and Lillie P. Emery Fulkerson.
A lifetime area resident, he retired in 1980 after 35 years as a semi-skilled laborer for McGraw Edison, and prior to that he worked 10 years for Hazel Atlas Plant 1.
Larry was a member of Putnam Presbyterian Church, former scoutmaster for Troop 111 for 12 years, instrumental in restoring Dillon Memorial Cemetery, member of the Putnam Historical Society. He was a local historian and very involved in the Zane Trace Commemoration and parade, especially in bringing the Indian Village and Indian dancers to the canal area during the commemoration.
Larry is survived by a son, Larry D. (Sue) Fulkerson of Zanesville; daughter, Karen S. Marshall of Zanesville; eight grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise B. Binkley Fulkerson; stepdaughter, Ramonda A. Armstrong; sister, Catherine Felumlee; and brother, Otto Fulkerson.

A funeral service for Barbara Byers Harvey, 57, of Crossville, Tenn., formerly of Statesville, N.C., will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, with Dr. Dean Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Barbara passed away Oct. 11, 2003. She was born Nov. 27, 1945, in Statesville, N.C., the daughter of Wade and Helen Josey Byers.
Barbara was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, camping, birdwatching and crafts.
She is survived by her husband, John Harvey of Crossville, Tenn.; son, John Bryan Harvey of Newark; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Scarborough of Troy, and Deb Hill Taylor of Troy; mother and father, Wade and Helen Byers of Statesville, N.C.; brother, Richard Byers of Valdese, N.C.; and her grandchildren.

Francis Dean Smith

A graveside service for Francis Dean Smith, 81, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery, where military honors will be observed.
Mr. Smith died Oct. 11, 2003, at the L.P.N. Health Care Facility. He was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, to the late Henry Joseph and Azella Virginia (Ryer) Smith.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the rifleman division in the U.S. Army. Francis was wounded in France while enlisted in the army and received four bronze stars and a purple heart for valor.
Surviving are his daughters, Janet Keefer of Westerville, Patricia Ann of Massachusetts, and Melvin Smith of West Peabody, Mass.; brothers, Paul Smith of Carson City, Nev., and Harry St. Cyr of Massachusetts; two sisters, Elizabeth Myers of Heath, and Merrilie Cournyon of Virginia; and four grandchildren, Todd Bailey, Allen Faires, and Billy and David Sikora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; Margaret Bennett and Catherine Krebs; and brother, George Smith.
There are no calling hours observed.
