Mary M. MacGillivray
Mary M. MacGillivray, 87, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in Heartland of Bellefontaine.
Mrs. MacGillivray was born Sept. 7, 1913, in Springfield, the daughter of George Rhinehart and Clara Edith Ullery Kadel Sr.
She married Lloyd T. MacGillivray on Aug. 17, 1934, in Springfield and he preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1978.
Mrs. MacGillivray, a homemaker, was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church, the Sarah Circle and the La Cultural Club. She was also a member of the Margaret Riddle King's Daughters, the Women's Club and the Rake and Hoe Garden Club.
She was an accomplished pianist, organist and music teacher.
Mrs. MacGillivray is survived by one son, Attorney Douglas (Marjorie) MacGillivray of Bellefontaine; two daughters, Karen (Keith) Young of Columbus and Sandra (James) McDonald of Bellefontaine; three brothers, Melvin (Virginia) Kadel, Kenneth (Donna) Kadel and Eldon (Shirley) Kadel, all of Springfield; three sisters, Ruth (Elno) Hardacre, Clara (Virgil) Monteith and Esther Beekman, all of Springfield; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Kadel of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, George Kadel Jr.; and one granddaughter, Cheryl Young.
Marjorie Jean Keighley
Marjorie Jean Keighley, 74, of Miami County and the Indian Lake area, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001.
She was born June 16, 1926, in Dayton, the daughter of the late Merlin F. and Genevieve Hopfengardner Crutcher.
A 1944 graduate of Fairview High School, she also graduated from the University of Dayton in 1948. Mrs. Keighley was affiliated with the Crutcher Antique Shows.
An accomplished pianist, she loved music and dancing and was an avid reader.
Survivors include two sons, Richard M. (Cleo) Keighley Jr. of Miami County and Jonathan C. (Sandra) Keighley of Hamilton, Mont.; two daughters, Marilyn E. (Martin) Kraly of Dublin and Krista Susan Keighley of Lakeview; seven grandchildren, Richard (Jodi) Keighley III, Beth (Ron) Casey, Sean, Kyle and Seth Keighley, Mitchell and Andrew Kraly; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Bertha F. Hemminger
Bertha F. Hemminger, 91, of 1033 N. Main St., passed away at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Mary Rutan Hospital.
She was born July 21, 1909, in Ridgeway, the daughter of Charles and Florence Ramsey Daniels.
She married Milo "M.E." Hemminger July 30, 1929, and he preceded her in death in July of 1961.
The homemaker and child care provider was a member of the First Friends Church.
Mrs. Hemminger is survived by two daughters, Carrie Joanna Salyers of Columbus and Helen M. Siegenthaler of Bellefontaine; two brothers, James Daniels of Lake Placid, Fla., and Charles Daniels of Iowa; four sisters, Carrie Britton of Belle Center, Hazel Moore of Zanesfield, Kathryn Kindell of Marion and Anna Reed of Marysville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Daniels; and one grandson.
Edwin D. Bickham
Edwin D. Bickham, 48, of Huntsville, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born April 5, 1952, in Bellefontaine to Harold E. Bickham and Sharon Neal Bickham.
On Dec. 6, 1991, he married Tamara D. Wolford Bickham, who survives.
Mr. Bickham was a dispatcher with Conn West Freight System, Lima, and was a member of the Indian Lake Community Church in Russells Point.
Along with his wife and parents, Mr. Bickham is survived by two daughters, Angie and Norman Judd of Bellefontaine and Jennifer Bickham at home; two sons, Michael and Gina Bickham of East Liberty and Jonathan O. Doup at home; five grandchildren, Amanda, Shena, Jesse, Brandon and Paige; one sister, Rosalee and Tom Wise of Bellefontaine; two brothers, Dan Bickham and Rod Bickham, both of Huntsville; and maternal grandmother, Leyetta Neal of Huntsville.
He was preceded in death by one son, Edwin Scott Bickham, and one granddaughter, Breanne Bickham.
Jasen B. Lange
Jasen B. Lange, 24, of Russells Point, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Oct. 16, 1976, in Bellefontaine to Jeffrey B. Lange and Mary Lynn Payton Hammond.
He was employed at Celina Aluminum Precision Technology and was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, where he was a server for many years. He was a 1996 graduate of Indian Lake High School.
Mr. Lange is survived by his mother and her fiance, Lynn Hammond and Thomas Presser of Huntsville; father and stepmother, Jeffrey B. and Roberta "Bertie" Lange of Russells Point; grandparents, Rosemary Payton of Marysville and John B. and Erma Lange Jr. of Huntsville; one sister, Angela Lange at home; two brothers, Ryan M. Lange of Marion and Dustin A. Lange of Russells Point; special friend, Crystal Lillicrap of Lakeview; two stepsisters, Nikki J. (Michael J.) Knott Moseinski of Toledo and Holly D. (David F.) Knott Maier of Huntsville; one stepbrother, T. Kirk Knott of Norfolk, Va.; and many aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joseph Payton, and uncle, David Payton.
John Edward DeWitt
John Edward DeWitt, 72, of 4111 County Road 28, West Liberty, died at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Champaign County, a son of Paul J. and Marjorie Chatfield DeWitt.
On June 1, 1957, in Durham, N.C., he married Reba Bowman, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, John E. (Victoria) DeWitt Jr. of Portland, Ore., David C. DeWitt of Roswell, Ga., and Stephen J. DeWitt of Seattle; one daughter, Jennifer (David) Maeser of Mercer Island, Wash.; three sisters, Mary Ann (Kay) Roush of Urbana, Diane (Larry) Cousins of Prairie Village, Kan. and Sherry Chastain of Columbus; and two grandchildren, Kendra and Chase Maeser.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Philip E. DeWitt.
Mr. DeWitt was vice president and division manager for Accuray Corporation, from which he retired in 1987 after 33 years of service.
He was a graduate of Urbana High School in 1946 and attended both Urbana University and The Ohio State University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Mr. DeWitt was an active volunteer in a number of organizations in Logan County.
M. Jean Woodruff
Former Bellefontaine resident M. Jean Woodruff, 73, of Key Largo, Fla., died at 9:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at the Kobacker House, Columbus.
Mrs. Woodruff was born Nov. 23, 1927, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of the late Edward Herman and Myrtle M. Williamson Test. She married Lee Woodruff Jr. on May 8, 1948, in Dearborn, Mich. He preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1996.
Mrs. Woodruff was a 1945 graduate of Fordson High School in Dearborn, Mich. She worked with her husband at Lee Woodruff Photography from 1963 until 1986 when the couple moved to Key Largo. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine.
Surviving are a son, Lee Woodruff III of Eagle, Idaho; a daughter, Pamela Benedetti of Columbus; and four grandchildren, Kelly Jean, Karen Alaine, Kyle Anthony and Katheryn Mae Benedetti. A son, Craig Woodruff, and a granddaughter preceded her in death.
Hazel E. Lottes
Hazel E. Lottes, a resident of the Green Hills Nursing Center and formerly of 1105 Allison Road, went to be with the Lord at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001.
Born April 2, 1908, in Thacker, W.Va., she was a daughter of Watt and Bertha Castle Stevens. On Oct. 30, 1923, she married Ed Lottes, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Anne (Roger) Rude of Bellefontaine; six grandchildren, Kathleen (Gerald) Trees of Marysville, Roger (Bernie) Rude Jr. of Bellefontaine, Harold Edward (Susan) Rude of Stow, Mass., Dianne (John) Perkins of Broadway, Rebecca Rude of Logan, Utah, and Pamela (John) Sherrets of Pikeville, Tenn.; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Hubert (Dixie) Stevens of Phelps, Ky., O.C. (Lois) Stevens of Amherst; and one sister, Alka Fredrick of Defiance.
Five sisters and five brothers are deceased.
Mrs. Lottes was a member of the Church of the Open Bible in Bellefontaine.
Gertrude Marie McGinnis
Gertrude Marie McGinnis, 98, of Bellefontaine and formerly of Columbus, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
She resided most of her life in the Hilltop area of Columbus, where she was a member of the Hilltop United Methodist Church. Mrs. McGinnis was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of her beloved Bridgettes Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Delphi and Charles Whetsel; her husband, Ralph D. McGinnis Sr.; two daughters, Ramona Joan Williams and Patricia Ann Robles; one son, Ralph D. McGinnis Jr.; and one brother, Harry Whetsel.
Survivors include one daughter, Quo Vadis Marie (Neal) Clark of Bellefontaine; one daughter-in-law, Cecilia McGinnis of Worthington; one sister, Mary Cox of Columbus; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and close friends.
Arthur E. "Art" Milestone
Arthur E. "Art" Milestone, 89, of Palm Bay, Fla. formerly of Huntsville until 1972, died Feb. 24, 2001, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla.
He was born June 18, 1911, in Fayette, Wis. to the late Edward Andrew Milestone and Maria Bertina Carlson.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife Opal Milestone of Palm Bay; two sons, Wayne (Mary) Milestone of Madison, Wis. and Joel (Hilda) Milestone of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kelly, Sarah and David; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Tucker.
