Reba Arabella Turner
Reba Arabella Turner, 86, of 533 Washington Ave., died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, in Heartland of Bellefontaine.

Mrs. Turner was born in West Mansfield on Oct. 14, 1914, a daughter of the late Orvale and Ivah Day Archer.

She married James William Turner in Bellefontaine on Jan. 28, 1937, and he preceded her in death Feb. 6, 1997.

Mrs. Turner was retired from Westinghouse Inc. and was a member of the Grace AME Church and was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son, Richard Turner of Columbus; one daughter, Theresa (Warren) Clark of Bellefontaine; one brother-in-law, Daniel Rose of Cleveland; one sister-in-law, Josephine Taylor of Bellefontaine; one grandchild, Terri Turner of Columbus; one great-grandchild, Ara Turner of Columbus; several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Turner also was preceded in death by one brother in infancy; and two sisters, Alma Rose Butler and Euphemia Jean Rose.

O.L. "Art" Hinkle

O.L. "Art" Hinkle, 83, of Bellefontaine, died at 9:20 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, at his residence.

A native of Logan County, he was born March 24, 1918, a son of the late Leroy and Theo Line Hinkle.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hinkle, whom he married Jan. 26, 1943, in Topeka, Kan.; one son, Lewis Hinkle of Bellefontaine; one daughter, Mary (Robert) Garwood of Bellefontaine; one grandchild, Lisa L. Garwood of Bellefontaine; and two nieces, Tamara Runkle of Huntsville and Cheryl (Jeff) Foulk of DeGraff.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Hinkle.

Mr. Hinkle was the assistant superintendent for the Bellefontaine Street Department. He was a member of the Bellefontaine Masonic Lodge 209, and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

Fred L. Kauffman
Fred L. Kauffman, 91, of West Liberty, died at 10:20 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Green Hills Care Center, West Liberty.

A son of Anthony and Rebecca King Kauffman, he was born July 25, 1909, in Logan County.

He was preceded in death on Jan. 4, 1995, by his wife, the former Viola F. Kauffman, whom he married Nov. 28, 1931, in Covington, Ky.

A retired supervisor at Grimes Manufacturing in Urbana, he was a member of the West Liberty Church of Christ. He played a role in the founding of the Kauffman Funeral Home in West Liberty.

Survivors include one son, James L. (Joyce) Kauffman of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Francis (Peggy) Grubbs of Vermillion; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and one grandchild.

Glade Headings Yoder
Glade Headings Yoder, 84, of West Liberty, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, in Green Hills Center, West Liberty.

Born on Dec. 8, 1916, in Logan County, he was a son of the late John Ray and Rebecca Headings Yoder. He married Wanda Broshes on Aug. 6, 1978, in West Liberty, and she survives.

A farmer, he had worked at Green Hills and was a member of the United Church of Christ in West Liberty.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two stepsons, Stephen (Sharon) Broshes of West Liberty and Tony (Kim) Broshes of Urbana; three stepdaughters, Jeannine Smith and Mrs. Fred (Kayrn) Beery, both of Urbana, and Mrs. Richard (Rebecca) Hamilton of West Liberty; seven stepgrandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren; and two sisters, Iona Martin of Springfield and Wanda Yount of Pittsburgh.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Yoder and Jim Yoder.

Gene Wilson Harpest

Gene Wilson Harpest died at 1:24 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Harpest was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the first police officer in Jackson Center, a truck driver, owner/operator of his own trucking company, a brother Elk and friend. He was a strong and hard working man.

Gladys Marie Johnson Neill
Gladys Marie Johnson Neill, 74, of West Mansfield, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima following an eight-month illness.

Mrs. Neill was born March 23, 1927, a daughter of the late Milford and Hazel Klaiber Johnson.

She married Edward Arnett and he preceded her in death. She married Lewis Gerald Neill on July 7, 1955, and he survives.

Mrs. Neill formerly owned and operated the Family Restaurant in West Mansfield and worked prior as a waitress at Millie's Restaurant and the Lamplighter Restaurant in Marysville. She served as a cook for the YMCA in Bellefontaine and was a former employee of Essex Wire of Kenton.

She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre at the Raymond VFW, the Prospect Senior Citizen Center and the Bellefontaine Senior Center. Mrs. Neill was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Neill is survived by three sons, James (Rose) Large of Kenton, Ronald (Nancy) Large of Marion, and Lewis Gerald (Becky) Neill Jr. of West Mansfield; two daughters, Jane Arnett Motter of Bellefontaine and Terry (Paul) Segner of Broadway; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl "Wilma" (Carl) Large Mohr of Marion and Ruby Belt of Xenia; a brother, Milford "Jr." Johnson of Xenia; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Vada Jaycox, Mary Shields and Dorcas Payne; and three brothers, John Johnson, Jim "Sonny" Johnson and Roy Lee Johnson.

Sue Hanna Peper
Sue Hanna Peper, 67, of Russells Point, died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Riverside Methodist Hospitals in Columbus.

She was born March 11, 1934, in Kenton, a daughter of Rex. W. and Louise Fink Hanna.

On Sept. 6, 1956, she married David L. Peper in Kenton, and he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Gwen (Mike) Tomaso of Ostrander and Gail (Terry) Mantey of Maumee; one son, Grant Peper of Russells Point; seven grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn (Carl) McCullough of Kenton; and one brother, Mark Hanna of Kenton.

She was preceded in death by one son, Greg.

Mrs. Peper graduated from Kenton High School in 1952, and from the nursing program of Miami University in 1956. She practiced her nursing profession at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Christ Hospital and Bethesda Hospital, both in Cincinnati, and at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton. She most recently was a volunteer at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine and at the Indian Lake Elementary School.

A past president of the Western Ohio Respiratory Health Association, she also was active in the Indian Lake Women's Club.

Ralph B. "Shorty" Rose
Ralph B. "Shorty" Rose, 80, of Belle Center, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at his residence in Northwood.

He was born June 1, 1920, in the Northwood community, a son of William Lester and Coral Blair Rose.

On Aug. 5, 1940, in Northwood, he married Martha Belle Campbell, who preceded him in death June 27, 1998.

Survivors include one son Billy R. (Cynthia) Rose of Columbus; five grandchildren, Doug (Penny) Rose of LaRue, Holly (Larry) Colegrove of Hilliard, Tara (Kim) Wagner of Bellefontaine, Tamara (David) Sanders of Mentor and Tiffany Young of Pickrelltown; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Kay Young; and one brother, Harold "Ick" Rose.

He was a self-employed auto mechanic and also had worked as a salesman at Anderson Ford in Lakeview.

Mr. Rose attended the United Presbyterian Church in Belle Center and was a member of Roundhead Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8832 and American Legion Post 266 of Belle Center, and the National Rifle Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Rose J. Murphy

Rose J. Murphy, 69, of Anna, died during the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 2, 2001, in her home.

Ms. Murphy was born in Logan County on Oct. 9, 1931, a daughter of the late Russell and Beryl Morris Barnes.

She was retired from Copeland Inc. of Sidney.

Ms. Murphy is survived by four sons, Jeffrey Barga of St. Petersburg, Fla., Leonard Barga, address unknown, Berry (Cassandra) Barga of Sidney and Dexter Barga of Jackson Center; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, four great-stepgrandchildren; four sisters, Mary (Cecil) Thompson of Lakeview, Pauline (Clyde) Myers of Columbus Grove, Faye (Ken) LaForge of Winter Park, Fla., and Brenda (Ron) Gebby of Sidney; and two brothers, Roger (Gwen) Barnes of Kenton and David Barnes of West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Allen Barnes; two sisters; and one brother.

James William "Jim" Oliver
James William "Jim" Oliver, 43, of Mechanicsburg, died in Riverside Methodist Hospitals in Columbus, on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, after a brief illness.

Born on Jan. 3, 1958, in Columbus, he was a son of Dorothy Thompson Oliver, who survives in Mechanicsburg, and the late William Oliver. He was a 1976 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, a truck driver and recently worked in West Liberty at Northern Floral and J&M Delivery.

Mr. Oliver also enjoyed country music and talking on CB radio.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Oliver is survived by three brothers, David (Sandy) Oliver and Stanley Oliver, all of Mechanicsburg, and Robert Oliver of West Liberty; four nieces, Maria, Shana, Bobbie Jean and Tiffany; one nephew, William; aunts, Rochelle Thompson of Mechanicsburg, Lucille Harter of Riverside, Calif., and Doris Gaver of St. Cloud, Fla.; cousins Dale Thompson III, Donald Thompson, Doreen Grow, Dalesa Combs, John Armstrong, Lance Armstrong and Joey Harter; and many close friends.

Preceding him in death were his father; uncles, Dale Thompson Jr., Donald Gaver, Jack Oliver, Robert Oliver, Stanley H. Oliver and Jack Armstrong; aunts Clara Thompson and Beverly Thompson; grandparents, James and Murvel (Goodwin) Oliver, Dale and Gladys (Cox) Thompson and Grover Gaver.
