Sharon S. Britt
Sharon S. Britt, 54, of Jackson Center, died at 6:03 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2001, at the Arthur James Cancer Hospital, Columbus.
Born in Bellefontaine on Nov. 9, 1946, she was a daughter of Olaf and Treva Minnich Jerviss. Her father is deceased and her mother survives in Bellefontaine.
She was employed by Design Original, Jackson Center.
On Jan. 27, 1968, she married David L. Britt, who survives along with one daughter, Kimberly Britt of Jackson Center; three sons, Gregory (Valarie) Britt of Maplewood, Kevin Britt of Lima and Eric Britt of Jackson Center; and one grandson, Bryson Britt.
Also surviving are one sister, Kathy (Robert) Mohr of DeGraff; two brothers, Larry (Phyllis) Jerviss of Huntsville and Wayne (Ann) Jerviss of Bellefontaine; and many nieces and nephews.
Audrey L. Crouse-Smith
Audrey L. Crouse-Smith, 86, West Liberty, died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in Mary Rutan Hospital.
Born in West Liberty on April 6, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Henry B. and Hattie E. Manning Foughty.
She married Elden Crouse on Feb. 19, 1957, in Bellefontaine, and he died March 9, 1982. Her second husband, Lloyd Smith, whom she married in 1988 in Champaign County, died Aug. 24, 1996.
A homemaker and member of Grace Chapel Church, she is survived by five stepsons, Ronald Hall of DeGraff, Burley Hall of Cable, Rick Smith of Mingo and Brian Smith and Joe Smith, both of Urbana; one stepdaughter, Judy Hall of Urbana; several stepgrandchildren; several great-stepgrandchildren; a sister, Ellen Shaffer of West Liberty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of West Liberty High School and was a member of the West Liberty Garden Club.
Also preceding her in death were a brother, Herbert Foughty; a sister, Irma DeCoursey; and a stepdaughter, Maxine Harrison.
Virginia M. Daley
Virginia M. Daley, 79, of Lakeview, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Heartland of Indian Lake Rehab Center, Lakeview.
Born April 19, 1922, in Lima, she was a daughter of the late Ira B. and Helen K. Kerr McPheron.
She married Don Daley on Oct. 22, 1942, and he survives.
Mrs. Daley was a homemaker and member of the New Hampshire Church of the Nazarene. She was well-known for her lemon pies and angel food cakes at sports banquets and at the Community Institute.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Helen Sieburg of Wilmot, N.H.; three sons, John (Lynne) Daley of Highland, Calif., Judson (Joyce) Daley of Lithia, Fla., and Bert (Kathy) Daley of Lakeview; two sisters, Cathleen Moore of Kingwood, Texas, and Thelma Johnson of Elida; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Evelyn Y. Eibling
Evelyn Y. Eibling, 94, of Lewistown, died at 12:48 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the Otterbein Home in Cridersville.
A native of Stokes Township, Logan County, she was born March 24, 1907, a daughter of the late Preston and Grace Crossley Alexander.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester Smith, and by her second husband, Willis Eibling.
A 1936 graduate of The Ohio State University, she also earned a master's degree in education from Northwestern University. Mrs. Eibling retired after 43 years of teaching in Ohio and California.
She attended the United Methodist Church in West Covina, Calif., and also was an accomplished pianist.
Survivors include one nephew, the Rev. David P. (Lana) Alexander of Lewistown; one niece, Elizabeth (Dale) Sederstrom of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; three great-nieces and two great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob M. Alexander and Wilbur Alexander.
Kenneth Eugene Metz
Kenneth Eugene Metz, 77, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Bellefontaine, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in Scottsdale Health Care in Scottsdale.
Born in Botkins on July 23, 1923, he was a son of the late Harley and Amanda Mann Metz. He married Lucile Arbogast on June 6, 1953, in Richmond, Ind., and she survives.
A member of the Lima Baptist Temple, he worked for Monarch Machine Tools from 1950 to 1970, and at the Transportation Research Center from 1978 to 1991.
Also surviving are a son, Kent (Mary Ann) Metz of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Jill (Max) Arnold of Scottsdale; and two grandchildren, Amber and Holly Metz.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Melvin and Norman Metz.
Joanna L. Estep
Joanna L. Estep, 76, of 145 W. High St., Womelsdorf, Pa., died at 10:49 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in Reading Hospital in Reading, Pa., where she was a patient for one day.
Her husband, Lawrence H. Estep, a former resident of DeGraff, preceded her in death in December 1984.
She was born in Loveland on Sept. 18, 1924, a daughter of the late Elder R. and Joy L. Burgin Herring.
Mrs. Estep was a retired freelance artist and writer. She was formerly a writer for the Abington Journal and a member of the Womelsdorf Planning Commission.
She is survived by one daughter, Jana L. Estep of Reading; one son, Lawrence E. Estep of Coatesville, Chester County; two grandchildren; and one sister, Elsetta R. Herring Ervin of Leesburg, Fla.
David McCreight
David McCreight, 66, of Westerville, formerly of Bellefontaine, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at his residence.
A senior active member of the Bellefontaine Rotary Club, he was an Army veteran and member of the Heritage Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; children, Deborah (Gary) Hurd of Lima, Michael McCreight and John Krzykoski, both of Columbus, and Stephen (Marci) McCreight of Westerville; a granddaughter, Ashley; and a brother, John (Gloria) McCreight of Florida.
Hazel Marie Borst
Hazel Marie Borst, 94, of West Liberty, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2001, in West Liberty.
She was born July 1, 1907, in Cable, a daughter of the late Jasper T. and Myrtie McDurnell Evans.
A past 4-H adviser and past member of the North Lewisburg Portia Chapter 448, Order of the Eastern Star, she was a current member of the Urbana United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis (Jim) Westfall of Carson City, Nev. and Suzanne E. (Ron) Hess of West Liberty; one son, James E. (Sabra) Borst of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Brian Westfall, Jean Ann Berkich, Gregory Westfall, Michael Hess, Melissa Avery, Tony and Todd Borst; eight great-grandchildren, Briana and Ashley Boyd, Joel Westfall, Bradley and James Robert Westfall, Isabella Avery, Candice and Andrew Jones; and one sister, Nellie Conover of West Liberty.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar Borst; three sisters, Flossie Clay, Roma Spain and Myrtie Morris; and one grandson, Timothy Borst.
Gary E. Suman
Gary E. Suman, 50, of Rushsylvania, died at 1:44 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2001, at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born Feb. 27, 1951, in Indiana, a son of the Rev. Floyd and Ellen Bebout Suman, who survive in Springfield.
Survivors also include one son, Chris (Michelle) Suman of Columbus, one daughter, Jo Ellen Deardorff of Wapakoneta and her future husband, Chad Brown; four grandchildren; fiancee, Roxanne Adams of Rushsylvania; special friend, Eli Adams of Rushsylvania; two brothers, the Rev. Richard (Donna) Suman of Ashland, Ky., and Jack (Anita) Suman of Angola, Ind.; two sisters, Cheryl (Michael) Campbell of Springfield and his twin, Terry Jane (Floyd) Lones of Lakeview; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Suman worked at Dana/Continental Hose in Wharton. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 428, Kenton, and was the former owner of G.E. Angelo's Pizza in Kenton.
James H. Martin
James H. Martin, 51, of New Hampshire, died at 2:50 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2001, at his home.
A native of Lima, he was born Sept. 14, 1949, a son of the late Joseph T. and Mary M. Elliott Martin.
On Nov. 8, 1969, he married Kathryne A. Weidel, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Melissa (Cory) Lee of Wapakoneta; one son, Todd (Heather) Martin of New Bremen; and one granddaughter, Abby.
Other survivors include four sisters, Shirley (Dale) Block of Sidney, Kathryn (Joe) Leugers of Lakeview, Margaret (Paul) Griffin of Pulaski, Tenn. and Mary Tuttle of Tucson, Ariz.; and four brothers, Kenneth (Hope) Martin of Russells Point, Carl (Barb) Martin of Uniopolis, William (Linda) Martin of Anchorage, Alaska and Charles Martin of Dayton; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Martin was an employee of Lima Marathon Electric.
Evelyn Lucille Westerman Neal
Evelyn Lucille Westerman Neal, 80, of Bellefontaine, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2001, at Logan Acres.
She was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Toledo, a daughter of the late Russell and Grace Holland Ede.
She was preceded in death Nov. 13, 1972, by her first husband, Harry Eldon Westerman, whom she married Jan. 6, 1940, in Newport, Ky., and by her second husband John Neal, who she married March 8, 1974. He died March 6, 1997.
Mrs. Neal was a homemaker and former member of the Mary Rutan Hospital Guild.
She is survived by one son, Richard (Cindy) Westerman of Bellefontaine; one daughter, Linda (Ray) Barnett of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Kyle and Greg Westerman, Jeff Barnett and Kelli Autrey; and 10 great-grandchildren.
