Tracy C. Shoemaker
Tracy C. Shoemaker, 70, of Cable, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, in his residence.
He was born in London, Ohio, on Dec. 9, 1930, a son of Tracy C. and Helen Coffee Shoemaker.
Mr. Shoemaker married the former Marietta Murray on June 21, 1948, and she survives.
Mr. Shoemaker was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and co-owner of Shoemaker Excavating of West Liberty.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Priscilla Pratt of West Liberty and Joyce (Glenn) Griffin of Kingscreek; one son, Jeff (Crista) Shoemaker of West Liberty; seven grandchildren, Todd (Lisa) Pratt, Shawn (Amy) Pratt, Tracie Griffin, Chuck Griffin, Joshua Shoemaker, Carrie Shoemaker and Jarrod Shoemaker; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Karen Sue Shoemaker.
Gertrude F. Jersey
Gertrude F. Jersey, 93, of Russells Point, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, in Logan Acres.
Mrs. Jersey was born in Mactier, Ontario, Canada, on Oct. 27, 1908, a daughter of the late John and Bertha Hockenbary Clark.
She married Charles Jersey on June 9, 1977, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1984.
She retired as a veterinary assistant at a New Jersey veterinary hospital.
Mrs. Jersey is survived by one son, Peter (Charlene) Kramp of Bellefontaine; one daughter, Patricia (Salvadore) Porcaro of Newburgh, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Donna Florie, Nicholas Porcaro, Teresa Smith and Susan Conley; and nine great-grandchildren.
One brother, Melvin, preceded her in death.
Robert B. Kimball
Robert B. Kimball, 68, of the Indian Lake area and formerly of Urbana, passed away peacefully at 8:27 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001. He was a resident of Heartland of Bellefontaine and being cared for by hospice.
Born Dec. 24, 1932, in Coshocton, he was a son of the late Ralph A. and Norma Middleton Kimball.
He graduated from Urbana High School with the class of 1951 and served in Germany as a member of the U.S. Army. Mr. Kimball retired from Grimes Manufacturing in 1989 with over 30 years of service.
Survivors include one grandson, Bobby Gene (Stephanie) Kimball of Milford Center; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Patsy) Kimball of Beavercreek and Warne Kimball of Mingo; one sister, Marilyn Jordan Zerkle of the Indian Lake area; one stepbrother, Bob Clem of Zanesfield; one stepsister, Chryl Deane of Urbana; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of wonderful friends in Ohio and Florida, where he had previously lived.
He was preceded in death in 1971 by one son, Bobby Gene.
Donald R. Odle
Donald R. Odle, 66, of the Turkeyfoot area, Lakeview, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Heartland of Indian Lake Rehab Center, Lakeview.
He was born in Danville, Ill. on Aug. 12, 1935, a son of the late Charles E. and Lela P. Marshall Odle.
Mr. Odle was a retired pipe fitter and a member of the Boilermakers Union of Lima.
He is survived by three daughters, Tammy (Tony) Houchin of Belle Center, Tonya (Bacilio) Ramirez of Lakeview and Tracy (Jackie) Norviel of Bellefontaine; one son, Stoney (Margaret) Odle of Anna; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include three sisters, Ruth (Harry) Long of Uniopolis, Zona (Homer) Shelter of Fort Atkins, Wis., and Barbara Shelter of Genoa; one brother, Jack L. (Kathryn) Odle of Tempe, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
One sister and four brothers are deceased.
Frank J. Steffan Jr.
Frank J. Steffan Jr., 83, of Lakeview, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born in Columbus on April 16, 1918, a son of the late Frank J. Steffan Sr. and Mary Louise Laponte Steffan.
Mr. Steffan married the former Frances M. Church on Aug. 4, 1945, and she survives.
A member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Mr. Steffan worked for American Standard in Columbus.
Along with his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Delia Hanks of Columbus; one son, Raymond F. (Kathleen) Steffan of Long Island, N.Y.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice (Howard) Myer of Johnstown.
One daughter, Mary Frances, preceded him in death.
Theodore S. Tilton
Theodore S. Tilton, 72, of Washington Court House, passed from this life Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Bellefontaine.
He was born May 10, 1929, in Ross County, a son of Junior Victor and Dessie Diehl Tilton.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Don Green and Lillian and Danny Wallace, all of Kenton; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, JoAnn and Fred Cote of Kenton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Sherry Tilton and Raymond Scott and Genia Tilton, all of Bellefontaine; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are five sisters, Evelyn Bone Stover and Louise Streitenberger, both of Chillicothe, Dorothy Barnett and Kaye Rawlins, both of Washington Court House and Jerry Keaton of Springfield; one brother, Pete Tilton of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Julia M. Rice; two sons, Terry and Steven Tilton; two brothers, Robert and Harold Tilton; and one sister, Edith Barnhart.
Mr. Tilton was a retired meat cutter.
Harry Richard Swank
Harry Richard Swank, 67, of Russells Point, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at The Ohio State University Medical Center.
He was born in Columbus on June 13, 1934, a son of Harry E. Jr. and Gladys Armstrong Swank.
He is survived by his stepmother, Nellie Swank; one son, Keith Swank of Belle Center; one daughter, Helen L.J. Neeley of Huntsville; grandchildren, Keith Jr., Rodney and Kyleigh Swank, Aliah Fruchey, Stacy and David Jr. Close; great-grandchildren, Cody and Blake Oaks and Megan Rodd; and several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Swank was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Roy E. Yoder
Roy E. Yoder, 87, of Pemberville, died at 2:10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Heartland of Browning in Waterville.
He was born April 12, 1914, in Monroe Township, a son of J. Oliver and Lydia B. Yoder. On April 12, 1941, he married Elaine Warye in Kingscreek and she survives in Pemberville.
Mr. Yoder owned and operated Yoder Equipment Co. in New Hampshire for 28 years. He was a member of the West Liberty and New Hampshire Lions clubs. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in New Hampshire, Grace Community Church in Fremont and Grace Chapel in West Liberty.
Other survivors include two sons and their wives, Keith W. and Arleen Yoder of Wheaton, Ill., and Bruce L. and Earlena Yoder of Wake Forest, N.C.; one daughter and her husband, Karen E. and Maurice Clark of Woodville; a sister and her husband, Roselle and Clair Kauffman of West Liberty; a brother-in-law, Paul J. Warye of Urbana; six grandchildren, John E. Yoder and his wife, Suzanne, Christine deEscareno and her husband, Flavio, Kerri and Kyle Yoder and Laura and Nathaniel Clark; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Annika Yoder. A brother, Clarence Yoder, and three sisters, Seba Ann Kanagy, Edna Pearl Yoder and Lydia Bell Krabill, preceded him in death.
Paul William Dick
Paul William Dick, 42, of 11300 Powhatan Path, Lakeview, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at his residence.
He was born June 3, 1959, a son of Patricia Ann Dick Hartley and the late Frank Harley Dick.
Mr. Dick was employed as a truck driver.
On July 20, 1981, he married Paula Diane Crawford, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Michael Lynn (Carrie Mae) Crawford, Paul Eugene Dick and Mary Ann Dick, all of Bellefontaine; three grandchildren, Felicity Marie and Michael Robert Crawford and Hailey Marie Moran.
Alton H. 'Al' Hughes
Former Bellefontaine resident Alton H. "Al" Hughes, 77, of Indianapolis, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at his residence. He was born April 6, 1924.
Mr. Hughes retired in 1999 as sales broker and owner of Hughes and Associates Inc. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Corps 78th Division.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Miller Hughes; three children, Bonnie Jean Speer of Charlottesville, Ind., Deborah Kay Feigh of Carmel, Ind., and Neil A. Hughes of Indianapolis; two brothers, Robert Lee Hughes of Berea, Ky., and Donald Wayne Hughes of Honolulu, Hawaii; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Cora Marcella Saltz
Cora Marcella Saltz, 98, of West Liberty, passed away at 1:32 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Green Hills Care Center in West Liberty.
She was born in West Mansfield on March 3, 1903, a daughter of the late Lawrence G. and Lucinda L. Smaltz Elliott.
She was a restaurant owner, homemaker and member of the West Liberty Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one grandson, Stanton Lee Walker.
Her husband, Stanton Saltz; a daughter, Jean Ann Walker, and three brothers preceded her in death.
