Patricia Baugh
Patricia Baugh, 63, of Farmers Branch, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Virginia Sharp; and husband, Leonard H. Baugh.
She is survived by children, Pamela (Ray) Griffin of Zanesfield, Gloria (Mark) Albright of Plano, Texas, Ronda Ryan of Dallas and Tina (Terry) Purtee of DeGraff; grandchildren, Jamie (Tracey) Griffin of Bellefontaine, Angel (David) Brown of Zanesfield, Amy (Jason) Kissling of Rushsylvania, Tara (Billy) Stewart of Forestburg, Texas, Calvin Carter of Plano, Tori Mustard, Brooke Mustard and Dusty Ryan, all of Dallas, and Justin Purtee, Jeremy Purtee and Trinity Purtee, all of DeGraff.
Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren, all of Ohio; one sister, Ethel Benham of Seattle; one brother, Paul Sharp of Farmers Branch; numerous nieces and nephews; former husband, Ronald Huffman; special friends, Carolyn and Bob Brattain; and many other friends and neighbors.
Waid Houser
Waid Houser, 86, of Russells Point, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Heartland of Indian Lake Rehab.
He is survived by his wife of many years, Madlyn Houser.
He was the loving father of Waid Houser Jr. of Huntsville, Gene (Ovie) Houser of Texas and Sherry Houser and Jim (Carmen) Houser, both of Russells Point; several grandchildren; one special grandchild, Brooks Houser of Lewistown; and one brother-in-law, Bob of Bellefontaine.
Deryl Hollington Jolliff
Deryl Hollington Jolliff, 62, a resident of Serenity West in Zephyrhills, Fla., died August 22, 2002.
He was born June 13, 1940, in Hardin County, a son of Charles Lewis and Thelma Danz Jolliff.
He graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1958 and lived in Florida since the mid 1980s.
He is survived by two brothers, Joseph Delbert of Upper Sandusky and Gary David of Corvallis, Ore.; and one sister, Maeva S. Rish of Columbus.
Sally Ann Royer
Sally Ann Royer, 78, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
She was born in DeGraff on Aug. 18, 1924, a daughter of the late Calvin R. and Mary Helen Culp Moore.
On Feb. 1, 1946, she married William Fred Royer and he preceded her in death Nov. 30, 1982. A brother, Calvin D. Moore also preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne (Philip) Stolz of Stamford, Conn., and DeDe (Ed) Boy of Bellefontaine; one son, William R. Royer of St. Maries, Idaho; one brother, Gene (Janet) Moore of DeGraff; five grandchildren, Ryan K. Bricker, Jason R. Boy, Jennifer A. Estes, Andrew E. Boy and Douglas F. Boy; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline J. Estes and Jessie Ann Boy.
A former seamstress for Dee's Department Store, she made airplane engines at Wright Patterson Air Force Base during World War II.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Bellefontaine and loved her family. Her hobbies included gardening and flowers and she had a love for cats.
Claude M. Gainey
Claude M. Gainey, 65, of Troy, died at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in his residence.
He was born in Rockingham, N.C., on June 23, 1937, a son of the late Murray and Evelyn Bailey Gainey.
He was formerly employed by Carter Steel in Bellefontaine.
He is survived by a special friend, Vaughnneita Cooper of Troy; and two sisters, Hazel (Merle) Hodges of Greenville and Elizabeth (Evan) Krugh of Springfield.
Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Dexter Beatley
Indian Joint Fire District Chief Dexter Beatley, 73, of Russells Point, died at 7:28 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Washington Township, Logan County.
Mr. Beatley served as chief of the fire district since Oct. 31, 1962. He joined the fire department at the age of 17. He was a past chief of the Logan County Firefighters Association and was employed by Washington Township. In addition, he served as a former director of the Logan County Civil Defense.
He was a member of the Indian Lake Lodge 722 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, the Antioch Shrine and also held membership in the Indian Lake Fish and Game Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Rachel Taylor; and his wife, Betty M. Harris Beatley, who died Nov. 22, 1994.
Survivors include three daughters, Tana (Jon) Ingle of Piqua, Melanie Beatley of Russells Point and Denise (David) Kipker of Lewistown; five grandchildren, Neil Ingle, Leah Burrows, Amy Kipker, Andrew Kipker and Adam Kipker; three great-grandchildren, Trenton, Skylr and Dexter; and his mother-in-law, Cecil Harris of Lakeview.
Richard Carl Wunderley Sr.
Richard Carl Wunderley Sr., 83, of Sandusky and recently of the Ohio Veterans Home, died Friday afternoon, Aug. 9, 2002, at the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus near Sandusky.
He was born in Toledo on Sept. 23, 1918, and graduated from Waite High School in Toledo. He attended Mississippi State College.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he served during World War II as a aerial gunnery instructor and radio operator.
He moved from Toledo, where he worked with the Toledo Scale Company, to Sandusky in 1959, where he owned and operated the Sandusky Hearing Aid Center, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky and was a past member of council and member of the church dart ball team.
He was a former certified hearing aid audiologist, past president of the Ohio Hearing Aid Dealers Association, member of the National Hearing Aid Society, past president of the Sandusky YMCA Men's Fellowship, the Christian Business Men's Group, Sandusky Lions Club and the American Legion Post 83, Sandusky.
He is survived by his wife, Katharyn Huss Wunderley, to whom he was married 59 years; one daughter, Susan (Thomas) Fisher of Bellefontaine; one son, Richard Wunderley Jr. of Findlay; four grandchildren, Meghan Skomer and Scott Fisher, both of Toledo, Erika Huber of Illinois and Todd Fisher of Michigan; and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, James Wunderley of Whitehouse; and four sisters, Florence Peeples of Perrysburg, Virginia Textor of Avon, Joan Nesteroff of Illinois and Jean Linden of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Edward and Cora Barrington Wunderley; and one sister, Alice Sullwold.
James W. Burkhammer Jr.
James W. Burkhammer Jr., 36, of Bellefontaine, died at 4:24 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus from injuries sustained in a car/motorcycle accident.
He was born in Bellefontaine on Jan. 25, 1966, a son of Sharon K. Shotts Oates who survives in Ridgeway and the late James W. Burkhammer Sr.
He was a service technician at Anderson Ford in Bellefontaine and formerly worked at Chapman Ford in Marysville.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Gulf War, he was a member of the Frank D. Castle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1080 in Bellefontaine. He was an avid hunter and member of the local Harley-Davidson group.
He is survived by two sons, James W. Burkhammer III and Joseph Alexander Burkhammer, both of Bellefontaine; one daughter, Amber Michelle Burkhammer of Bellefontaine; two brothers, Edward D. Burkhammer of Urbana and Christopher Burkhammer of Bellefontaine; one sister, Lisa Kay Daniels of Indian Lake; and grandparents, Tom and Ernestine Shotts of Huntsville and Martha Burkhammer of Bellefontaine.
Jerry E. Schetter
Jerry E. Schetter, 74, of 10404 County Road 286, Huntsville, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Urbana on July 20, 1928, a son of the late Frank and Florence McClusky Schetter.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Schetter and Frank Schetter Jr.; and one sister, Edith Criffield.
He was retired as a district sales manager for Wilmar Mfg., Wilmar, Minn., and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Urbana, Indian Lake Elks Lodge 2792 and Indian Lake Moose Lodge 1533.
He is survived by two sons, Donnie Schetter of Dayton and Steve Schetter of Springfield; one daughter, Cindi Barger of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, James Schetter of Urbana; one sister, Betty Neer of Westerville; 18-year companion, Janet Brattain; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
