Mary K. Puckett
Mary K. Puckett, 79, of Bellefontaine, died at 5:09 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in Heartland of Bellefontaine.
She was born in Cincinnati on July 9, 1923, a daughter of the late Joseph Henry and Ellen Frances Kasberg Griffith.
On Sept. 20, 1960, she married Robert L. Puckett and he preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1984.
She is survived by three daughters, Hope Puckett and Terry (Gerald) Skaggs, both of Bellefontaine, and Dorothy (Jack) Everhardt of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and six grandchildren, Anya Skaggs, Ashley Skaggs, Krista Skaggs, Jackie Everhardt III, Michael Everhardt and Heather Everhardt.
She was a homemaker.
Delores Al Jean Huntsman
Delores Al Jean Huntsman, 82, of Huntsville, died at 4:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in Heartland of Indian Lake.
She was born in Evansville, Ind., on Dec. 4, 1920, a daughter of the late Alfred Anthony and Clara Loretta Stewart Kaltenborn.
Her husband, David Howard Huntsman preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, David Ramond Huntsman of Findlay; and one grandson, Jonathan Huntsman of Findlay.
A 1939 graduate of Lima Central High School, she was a former corrections officer at the Ohio Women's Correctional Institution.
She was a member of the Young at Heart Senior Center in Lakeview.
Thurman L. Jackson
Thurman L. Jackson, 96, of West Liberty, died at 2:25 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Shelby County on Sept. 27, 1906, a son of the late Charles E. and Glenna Mae Good Jackson.
On March 30, 1927, he married the former Flora Izzetta Coyle in Newport, Ky., and she preceded him in death Oct. 3, 1991.
He is survived by two sons, Thurman W. (Mary) Jackson of Laie, Oahu, Hawaii, and Darrell E. Jackson of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Sherry Lee (Donald) Carothers of Bellefontaine; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
In 1926, he began working for Penn Central Railroad as a telegrapher. He retired in 1971 as a freight agent.
William Victor McMullen
Former Bellefontaine resident William Victor McMullen, 84, of West Liberty, died at 3:25 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in Green Hills Care Center.
He was born in Bellefontaine on Jan. 10, 1918, a son of the late Matthew John and Elizabeth Loretta Buehrle McMullen. Two brothers, C.M. and Robert McMullen, and four sisters, Ann Winther, Gertrude Cooksey, Mary Steinberger and Frances Neal also preceded him in death.
On Aug. 29, 1943, he married the former Lois Wharf in Bellefontaine and she survives, along with two daughters, Carole E. McMullen of Bellefontaine and Alayne (Ronald) Klenotic of Gladstone, Mich.; one brother, Gerald McMullen of Urbana, formerly of Bellefontaine; one sister, Rita (Phil) Siegenthaler of Corona, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Ronald Klenotic Jr., Tanya Cahill, Michelle Newbury, Daniel Klenotic and David Klenotic.
He worked for Superior Coach in Lima and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing.
Edna Louise Williams
Edna Louise Williams, 93, formerly of Rushsylvania, died at 4:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in Canton Christian Home in Canton.
She was born in Mt. Victory on Jan. 22, 1909, a daughter of the late Marvin O. and Edna Linso Marvey.
Her husband, Carl Williams, preceded her in death in August 1968.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Porthan of Lander, Wyo., and Sally Williams of Dayton.
She was retired from teaching, having taught at Ridgemont and Van Wert high schools.
Clara Mae Blair
Clara Mae Blair, 82, of Belle Center, died at 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
Born in Bellefontaine on May 11, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Clarence E. and Icie Belle Baggs Moore.
On Feb. 22, 1947, in Newport, Ky., she married Waldo A. Blair, who preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1976.
Survivors include two sons, William L. (Beverly) Blair of Belle Center and James P. (Lola) Blair of Huntsville; one half sister, Daisy Turner of Marysville; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was a 1938 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, a homemaker and member of the Assembly of God Church in Kenton.
Anthony J. 'Tony' Van Der Vaart
Anthony J. "Tony" Van Der Vaart, 60, of Bowling Green, Ky., died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.
He was the son of the late Anthony and Zalina Damrow Van Der Vaart.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Van Der Vaart retired as a senior service technician for Hayssen Manufacturing and was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Bowling Green, Ky. He was also a member of the Simpson Benevolent Masonic Lodge 177 F&AM.
He is survived by his wife Janice Comer Van Der Vaart, formerly of DeGraff, and a daughter, Jess (Clint) Perkinson, both of Bowling Green; one brother, Richard (Kay) Van Der Vaart of Sheboygan, Wis.; and two grandchildren, Cade and Demi Perkinson of Bowling Green.
He was preceded in death by a son, Scott F. Van Der Vaart.
Ethel M. Wood
Ethel M. Wood, 92, of Kenton, died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in Baldwin Manor Nursing Home in Kenton.
She was born in Hardin County on Nov. 26, 1910, a daughter of the late William and Mildred Senning Curtis.
On Sept. 10, 1933, she married Francis R. Wood, who preceded her in death Jan. 18, 1998. Also preceding her in death were one brother, William Curtis, and three sisters, Joan Pfeiffer, Mable Lawyer and Marguerite Doll.
She is survived by one son, Robert (Barbara) Wood of Kenton; one daughter, Janet (James) Goslee of Kenton; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Agnes (Eugene) Rader and Sylvia Rader, both of Rushsylvania.
A homemaker, she was a graduate of Belle Center High School and a member of Greenwood Grange.
Miriam B. Wagner
Miriam B. Wagner, 78, of Bellefontaine, died at 6:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
She was born in Dayton on June 27, 1924, a daughter of the late William Jacob and Mary Marguerite Kissinger Burns.
On Nov. 25, 1949, she married James A. Wagner in Dayton and he preceded her in death Feb. 6, 2000. A brother, Robert K. Burns, and a granddaughter, Catherine Jones, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann (the Rev. Ricardo "Tony") Jones of Canton, Carol (Dale) Burton of Bellefontaine and Joy (Tim) Clark of Bay City, Mich.; one sister, Dorothy Jane Freeman of Oak Park, Mich.; grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Jones, Doug, Marcus, Jill and Alex Burton, and Lana and Rhonda Clark; two nieces; and two nephews.
She worked at Wright Field and the Mead Corporation in Dayton and was a secretary for attorney John Kelly.
As a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine and Grace United Methodist Church in Dayton, she was active in the United Methodist Women group, taught Sunday School and weekday religious education and served Meals on Wheels.
A graduate of Fairview High School, she attended DePauw University and was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority.
She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader and a bridge club member, who enjoyed traveling, playing games with her grandchildren, meeting new people and nurturing her friendships.
