Elva V. Yoder
Elva V. Yoder, 86, of West Liberty, died at 8:23 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in her residence.
She was born in Champaign County on April 4, 1916, a daughter of the late Harry and Melinda Smucker Kauffman. A brother, Delphos Kauffman, and a sister, Ruby Dear, also preceded her in death.
On Feb. 26, 1939, she married J. Howard Yoder and he survives, along with one son, James (Margy) Yoder of West Liberty; three daughters, Sandra (Gene) King of Zanesville and Sally Yoder and Peggy Yoder, both of West Liberty; a sister, Dorothea Headings of West Liberty; a sister-in-law, Clara Kauffman of West Liberty; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker.
John Follrod Jr.
John Follrod Jr., 81, of Bellefontaine, died at 12:12 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in his residence.
Born on Oct. 22, 1921, in Mt. Sterling, he was a son of the late John Sr. and Lillie Yerian Follrod. He married Alice McCafferty on Aug. 9, 1947, in Painsville, Ky., and she died Nov. 4, 2001.
He had worked as a truck driver for RMD in Columbus.
Survivors include a son, John Follrod III of Bellefontaine; two brothers, Frank Follrod and Pete Follrod, both of Mt. Sterling; three sisters, Veridean Preston of Newark, Florence Elshirer of Huntsville and Betty Follrod of Texas; and two granddaughters, Marcie Tackett and Nettie Tackett.
Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Shirley Tackett; and five brothers, Chaning, Clark, Allen, Richard and William Follrod.
Beverly K. Brown
Beverly K. Brown, 47, of Bellefontaine, died at 8:09 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at The Ohio State University Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 26, 1955, in Bellefontaine, a daughter of the late Clarence P. and Rosemary K. Coover Snyder.
She is survived by one daughter, Jaymi T. Brown of Bellefontaine; one brother Robert R. (Jo) Snyder, of Columbus; and one sister, Sandra (Les) LeVan of Bellefontaine.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Agnes Marie Brown and John Paul Brown; and one brother, Richard Paul Snyder.
A 1973 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, she worked at AP Technoglass Co. and was a member of the Bellefontaine Church of the Brethren.
Joan L. Coyer-Weaver
Joan L. Coyer-Weaver, 59, of Lakeview, died at 7:37 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, in the emergency room at Mary Rutan Hospital.
She was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Kenton, a daughter of the late William "Bus" and Pauline Oglesbee Hisel.
She married Jack E. Coyer Sr. on July 1, 1961, and he died July 25, 1993.
On Aug. 22, 1997, she married Rodger F. Weaver, who survives.
She retired from Logan Acres where she had been employed for 18 years and was head of housekeeping.
A 1961 graduate of Indian Lake High School, she was president of the auxiliary of the Doyle R. Miller Post 39, AMVETS, Lakeview and also held membership in the Indian Lake Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Aerie 3615.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Jack E. (Patricia) Coyer Jr. and William H. (Elisabeth) Coyer, both of Lakeview; one daughter, Rebecca (Michael) Smith of Lakeview; six grandchildren, Nicci and Heather Clark, Matthew and Christopher Coyer, Andrew Hughes and Logan Coyer; and two stepgrandchildren, Cody and Alexis Smith.
Marian C. Miller
Marian C. Miller, 81, of Russells Point, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the Heartland of Indian Lake Rehab Center, Lakeview.
The daughter of the late Thomas R. and Mary Jane Murphy Ferguson was born July 15, 1921, in Flint, Mich.
She married Lowell F. Miller on Dec. 6, 1939, and he survives along with two sons, Lowell T. (Debbie) Miller of Jackson Center and William (Jennifer) Miller of Huntsville; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Miller of Lakeview, Brenda (Robert) Stephan of Indianapolis and Douglas (Jodie) Miller, Darrin "Dink" (Joyce) Miller, Brooks Miller and Chelsea Miller, all of Huntsville; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry Ferguson of Alaska and Arizona; and one sister, Joanne (George) Metz of Lakeview and Arizona.
Two brothers, William and Ray, are deceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Indian Lake Community Church, Lakeview.
Herman Darrell Ashby Jr.
Herman Darrell Ashby Jr., 40, of Bellefontaine, died at 3:58 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in Harmar Place in Marietta after a long illness.
He was born in Ashland on June 1, 1962, a son of Herman D. Ashby of Danville and the late Velma M. Moyers Potts. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bert Potts; and one sister, V. Jeannie Ashby.
Along with his father, he is survived by three sons, Darrell, Stephen and Bruce Ashby, all of Marietta; and best friend, Traci Strahler of Marietta.
While living in Bellefontaine, he owned and operated Ashby's Custom Woodworks and Construction and was a member of the Brotherhood of Protective Order of Elks Lodge 132 and the Indian Lake Moose Lodge 1533.
He had resided in Marietta previously and for the past 10 months.
Howard Cleve Bennett
Howard Cleve Bennett, 73, of DeGraff, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in his residence. He was born March 25, 1929, in Williamston, N.C., a son of the late Leonard Cleve and Effie Oliva Jones Bennett.
He was survived by three brothers, Arthur Gray Bennett of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Noah Samuel Bennett and Raymond Douglas Bennett, both of Plymouth, N.C.; and four sisters, Ethel Bennett Williams of Everetts, N.C.; Kathleen Bennett Peele of Oak City, N.C.; Lena Bennett Hungate of Greenville, N.C.; and Jean Bennett Bridges of Anderson, Ind.
A brother, Fred Saunders Bennett, preceded him in death.
Lena Thompson Daum
Lena Thompson Daum, 78, of Marysville, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
She was born in West Virginia on Feb. 6, 1924, a daughter of the late Millard and Mary Lee Thompson Thompson.
On June 19, 1940, she married Ernest E. Daum in Greenup, Ky., and he survives, along with a daughter, Judy (Jim) Phipps of North Lewisburg; and two sons, Ernest Eugene "Sonny" (Shirley) Daum of Marysville and Larry Paul (Linda) Daum of Russells Point; and nine grandchildren, Bill (Jodi) Phipps of St. Paris, Karen (Eric) Williams of Indiana, Mike (Stephanie) Phipps, Mark (Kelly) Daum, Steven (Debbie) Daum and Tony (Rita) Daum, all of Marysville, and Margaret Daum of Delaware, Mary Daum and David Daum and fiancée Jennifer Maitland, all of West Mansfield.
Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred "Jack" (Esther) Thompson of Unionville Center; a brother-in-law, Manuel Daum of Marysville; three sisters-in-law, Mary (Albert) Mabe of Powell, Patty Daum of Marysville and Carolyn Daum of Columbus; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
A homemaker, she was raised in Unionville Center and enjoyed singing and playing guitar, listening to the Grand Ole Opry, fishing, camping and baking.
She and her husband wintered in North Fort Myers, Fla.
Iola Louise Grubbs
Former East Liberty resident Iola Louise Grubbs, 81, of Chesapeake, Va., died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Lake Taylor Hospital in Norfolk, Va., after suffering a major stroke Dec. 6.
She was born in Ridgeway on Dec. 11, 1921, a daughter of the late Perry Isaac and Hazel Mitchell Everingham.
On March 11, 1950, she married Roy Grubbs and he preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1977. She also was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Betty Everingham; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Everingham; and a brother-in-law, Thurman Bayliss.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (George) Fordyce of Chesapeake, Va.; two sons, Eric (Eileen) Grubbs of Norman, Okla., and Don (Janelle) Grubbs of Powell; three grandsons, Steven Fordyce, Joshua Grubbs and Elijah Grubbs; a sister, Martha Bayliss of Ridgeway; a brother, Stanley Everingham of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She retired from the Benjamin Logan School System in 1990 after nearly 15 years of service as head cafeteria cook.
A longtime member of the East Liberty Church of Christ, she attended the Suburban Christian Church in the Virginia Beach area, after moving to Chesapeake to live with her daughter in 2000.
The 1940 graduate of Perry-Zane High School worked at Harding Machine Shop during World War II and was an avid reader. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star Mary Chapter 9, the JG Club and the Liberty Belles.
Donna M. Huffman
Donna M. Huffman, a retired Westinghouse employee and resident of Bellefontaine, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Mary Rutan Hospital. She was 74 years of age.
Born Feb. 14, 1928, in Champaign County, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Ruth Bodey McGuire.
On April 29, 1966, she married James J. Huffman in Urbana. He died Oct. 21, 1978.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Keith Stockton) Scherer of Bellefontaine and Deanna (Bill) Robinson of Rushsylvania; three brothers, John McGuire, Richard (Florence) McGuire and James (Joyce) McGuire, all of Urbana; one sister, Mary Catherine (Lowell) Tullis of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren, Brett (Denise Brooks) Sanford, Rusty and Brandon Bingham and Jenny (Mike) Kimbler; five great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Emily, Ginger, Leanna and Mikey; and two great-great grandchildren, Bailey and Dylan.
