Donna May Patrick
Donna May Patrick, 96, of West Mansfield, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at the Gables of Green Pastures, Marysville.
A member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church, she graduated from Middleburg High School in 1922, and from the Moore Business College in Urbana. She was a bookkeeper for Goff Lumber Company in West Mansfield and Harding Machine in East Liberty, retiring in 1971. She was a lover of poetry and had written and recited poetry since childhood. Mrs. Patrick enjoyed "keeping in touch" by means of cards and letters to friends, neighbors and relatives.
She was born to the late Lewis W. and Ella Jane Seaton Norviel on Jan. 8, 1905, near East Liberty, on a farm now part of the Transportation Research Center.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Harold Huffman and Samuel Patrick; one son, retired Maj. William Lynn Huffman; five brothers, twins Lewis Leroy "Doc" and Lawrence L., Frank, John and Richard Norviel; one sister, Georgia McGrath; and one son-in-law, Harold Small.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth (Arthur) Rausch of West Mansfield and Jane Anne (Virgil) Meier of Marysville; one daughter-in-law, Mary L. Huffman of West Mansfield; six grandchildren, Lynda Lu Jackson of Mesquite, Texas, Jill Macy of Zanesfield, David (Corina) Lucas of Elkhart, Ind., Kevin (Sarah Frances) Lucas of Grove City, Paul Meier of Cambria, Ill., and Peter (Eloisa) Meier of Guyaquil, Ecuador; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and many special friends.
Derwin D. Coulter
Derwin D. Coulter, 75, of Lima, died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. Born on Feb. 8, 1926, in Roundhead, he was a son of the late Derwin Frank and Cecile Roebuck Coulter.
He married Anna Marie Fleece on Dec. 5, 1946, and she survives.
Mr. Coulter was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having achieved the rank of technical sergeant. After the war, he worked for the Crane Company in Lima and later was employed with the M.B. Supply Company. For 25 years he served as a postman for the U.S. Postal Service in Lima, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Lima, and a volunteer at St. Rita's Medical Center for 11 years, having contributed more than 4,000 hours of service.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, John (Linda) Coulter of Germany; two daughters, Betty Denham of Sun City, Ariz., and Carol Scherbarth of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Michael Coulter.
Sue Green
Sue Green, 63, of Columbus, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at St. Ann's Hospital, Columbus.
Retired from the State of Ohio, she was a former secretary for the Westerville Chief of Police.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Maud Green, and one brother, David A. Green.
Survivors include one sister, Ruth Ann (Don) Morrow of Mentor; three brothers, Tom Green of Columbus, Michael (Pat) Green of Wrightsville Beach, N.C. and Paul (Bev) Green of DeGraff; 19 nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ruth A. Kinnan
Ruth A. Kinnan, 75, of Titusville, Fla., formerly of Indian Lake, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, in the Titusville Rehab & Nursing Center.
Born in North Baltimore on Aug. 30, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Ray O. and Matilda M. Yost Holbein.
A homemaker and member of the Indian River City United Methodist Church, she is survived by her husband, Herbert K. Kinnan; a son, Mike Kinnan; and two grandsons, Mark Kinnan and Blake Kinnan.
Geraldine "Jerry" Keely
Geraldine "Jerry" Keely, 87, of West Liberty, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Logan Acres.
Mrs. Keely was born in Ada on Jan. 24, 1914, a daughter of the late Jedd and Anna McElroy Corbett.
She married Roy Keely on March 1, 1941, in Norwalk, and he survives in West Liberty.
The Ada High School graduate received a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science degree from Ohio Northern University and was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She taught junior and senior high school English and French at Ridgeway and West Liberty-Salem schools.
Mrs. Keely was a member of the United Church of Christ in West Liberty, where she taught the What-So-Ever Sunday School class. She also held memberships with the Kenton Eastern Star and the West Liberty American Legion Auxiliary.
Also surviving are a son, John (Cathy) Keely of West Liberty; one daughter, Nancy (Don) McAlexander of Tipp City; and two grandchildren, Jay (Sarah) Keely of West Liberty and Jarrod Keely of Centerville.
Barbara Edwards MacIvor
Barbara Edwards MacIvor, 79, of Marysville, wife of Malcolm MacIvor, M.D., departed this life Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at her home surrounded by her loving and devoted family, following a long battle with cancer.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, a steadfast friend, and a patient listener and wise counselor to many. A member of First Presbyterian Church of Marysville, she was a devout Christian and loyal supporter of all worthy causes. She was a former member and past president of the Woman's Parliament and was a member of the Western Reserve Alumni Association. Shy and retiring by nature, she sought no recognition for herself, but preferred to give the credit for successes to others. She gave her life in gentle love and truly gained from Heaven all she asked, that most precious gift of all, a Savior and a Friend.
She was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Springfield, to the late Walter V. and Gertrude M. Edwards. She graduated from Wittenberg University in 1943 and from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Western Reserve in 1945 with a master's degree in nursing. She taught surgical nursing at The Ohio State University and at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Malcolm MacIvor, whom she married Sept. 7, 1947, at the home of her family in Springfield; three children, Dr. Duncan and Virginia MacIvor of Richmond, Va., John and Sue MacIvor of Bellefontaine and Peggy and Herbert Hendricks of Marysville; seven grandchildren, Lauren and Craig MacIvor of Richmond, James and Beth MacIvor of Bellefontaine and Jessica, Heather and Thomas Hendricks of Marysville; a sister, Phyllis Edwards of Springfield; a brother, Walter (Louise) Edwards of Phoenix; a brother-in-law, Robert (Virginia) MacIvor of Marysville; and many nieces and nephews, including Dr. Virginia MacIvor (Henning) Meyn and Angus (Roberta) MacIvor, both of Cleveland.
Rodney Joe Herring
Rodney Joe Herring, 42, of 3942 Harrison Road, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Bellefontaine on June 9, 1959, a son of William Joe and Ruth M. McVay Herring, who survive in Bellefontaine.
Mr. Herring married the former Karen Rush in Bellefontaine on April 12, 1989. She survives in Gahanna.
A 1977 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, Mr. Herring was a member of the Minerva Park First United Methodist Church in Columbus. He was employed by HBD Industries.
Mr. Herring is also survived by one son, Jason Herring of Camden, S.C.; three daughters, Donna Kay (Richard) Stevenson of Bellefontaine, Jessica Herring of Camden and Michelle Herring of Gahanna; one stepdaughter, Tracey Vining of Gahanna; one brother, Rick Herring of Bellefontaine; one sister, Debra (James) Pequignot of Bellefontaine; paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Meyer of Bellefontaine; favorite aunt, Mable Wolford of Bellefontaine; and childhood friends, Bert Kauffman and Dot Clem, both of Bellefontaine.
Lance W. Van Buskirk
Lance W. Van Buskirk, 39, of Kenton, died at 2:27 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at his residence.
He was born July 19, 1962, in Upper Sandusky, a son of Harold and Evelyn Horner Van Buskirk, who survive in Kenton.
In Kenton on June 16, 1984, he married Dina Dyer, and she survives along with one daughter, Emily at home; one sister, Laura (Mike) Adams of Mt. Victory; one brother, Steve (Kris) Van Buskirk of Forest; grandmother, Mary Horner of Kenton; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marlene and Franklin Dyer of Daytona Beach, Fla.; grandmother-in-law, Anna Oates of Daytona Beach; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Van Buskirk had been employed by the Roby Company for 18 years, holding numerous positions within the company. He was a member of the BPOElks in Kenton, the Buckeye 4-Wheelers, the Fraternal Order of Police and the National Mud Racers Association.
Pauline LaVerne Purk
Pauline LaVerne Purk, 80, of 217 W. Moore St., DeGraff, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at 10:15 p.m. in Green Hills Center, West Liberty.
Born on June 16, 1921, in Kenton, she was a daughter of Omer Sherwood and Caroline Anna Pollic Thomas. She married Wilbur Ray Purk on Oct. 10, 1940, in Paris, Ky., and he died March 24, 1999.
A 1939 graduate of DeGraff High School, she attended Stony Creek Church of the Brethren. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty L. Reames of DeGraff; two sons, William (Joyce) Purk of Bellefontaine and Richard (Patty) Purk of DeGraff; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Thomas and Doris Allen, both of Sidney, Thetis Thomas of Phoenix and Evelyn Burkhart of Apopka, Fla.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Purk, and two brothers, Roy L. Thomas and Forest D. Thomas.
Beatrice M. Arnold
Beatrice M. Arnold, 82, of Russells Point, died at 9:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Jackie, in Akron.
A native of Springfield, she was born March 30, 1919, a daughter of the late O.J. "Pat" and Lorena O'Brien Cline Thomas.
She married Ernest Arnold Jr. on Aug. 9, 1941, and he preceded her in death May 14, 1992.
Mrs. Arnold retired in 1981 from the former Bulldog Electric and Gould Corporation in Bellefontaine after 25 years.
She is survived by four daughters, Sondra (Jack) Pugh of Kasilof, Alaska, June Baker of Perrysburg, Jackie (Stephen) Hunt of Akron and Elly (John) Baughman of Hudson, Fla.; one sister, Freda O'Callaghan of Springfield; one brother, Louis Cline of Springfield; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Gregory A. Hunt and one great-grandson, Rodney Lynn Tinsley Jr.
Phyllis Eileen Stanfield
Phyllis Eileen Stanfield, 79, of 7158 Township Road 137, Rushsylvania, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at her residence.
She was born in Logan County on June 21, 1922, a daughter of the late John and Carol Roebuck Harrod.
On June 17, 1944, she married Boyd "Duke" Stanfield, who is deceased.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda A. Hertenstein of Bellefontaine and Marsha S. Bordner of Springfield; three grandchildren, Shane D. Hertenstein of Bellefontaine, Seth A. Bordner and Jonathan R. Bordner, both of Springfield; one sister, Miriam Forsythe of Belle Center; and numerous nieces and nephews.
During World War II, she was the first female gas station attendant in Bellefontaine. She retired after 30 years of service from the former Detroit Aluminum and Brass Company, where she worked as an inspector. Following retirement, she was a vending attendant for the same company for 14 years.
Mrs. Stanfield was a loyal worker, never missing a day of work. After her work day, she would enjoy doing the daily chores on the farm that she shared with her husband.
