Quentin 'Keith' Smith
Quentin "Keith" Smith, 77, of Bellefontaine died at 5:55 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at the Green Hills Center, West Liberty.

A native of Battle Ground, Ind., he was born May 30, 1925, a son of the late Lloyd Willard and Guitina Ruth Harr Smith.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945, and was a lifetime member of the VFW, AMVETS, and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He was a past president of the Eagles and also was a member of the American Legion.

A former employee of Detroit Aluminum and Brass, he retired from Super Foods in 1990, where he served as a guard.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas Keith (Sue) Smith of Urbana and Dennis Keith (Linda) Marotta of Derington, S.C.; one daughter, Candyce Anne (Troy) Hanley of Huntsville; one sister, Patricia Parsons of Tampa, Fla.; special friend, Louise Ownings of Bellefontaine; seven grandchildren, Braden and Travis Lance, Nathan Smith, Jennifer and Shawn Hanley and two grandchildren in South Carolina; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Nickolas Lance.

Mike Ginn
Mike Ginn, 47, of Zanesfield, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in Dublin, Ohio.

A son of Mary Brugh Cummings, who survives in Bellefontaine and the late Leslie E. Ginn, he was born April 20, 1955, in Urbana. On Sept. 1, 1988, he married Deborah Trout in Bellefontaine, and she survives.

He owned and operated Ginn's Lake Construction since 1988.

He is survived by four sons, Lynn Douglas of Ridgeway, Kerry (Sherry) Douglas of Russells Point, Shane Bevington of Bellefontaine, and Jamie Douglas of Las Vegas; three daughters, Mandy (Mike) Karg of Bellefontaine, Michelle (Rico) Barbu of Freeport, Texas, and Amanda Frazier of Kenton; three brothers, Gene (Angie) Ginn, Thomas (Doris) Ginn and Shane Ginn, all of Bellefontaine; three sisters, Margaret (Oral) Prater and Janie (Gary) Payne, both of Bellefontaine, and Teresa (Jack) Watts of Lakeview; a stepfather, Eugene Cummings; 15 grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Donald D. Kapp Sr.
Donald D. Kapp Sr., 75, of Lakeview, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in his residence.

Born on Aug. 11, 1927, in Springfield, he was a son of the late Clifford and Hazel Sly Kapp.

A truck driver, he was a Navy and Army veteran of World War II, was a life member of Doyle R. Miller AMVETS Post 39 in Lakeview and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3343 in Clyde.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Lavon Kapp of Lakeview; four daughters, Hazel Kapp and Jackie Helton, both of Lakeview, and Bonnie Kapp and Paula Kapp, both of Indiana; two sons, Terry Kapp and Donald Kapp Jr., both of Indiana; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, John E. (Billie) Kapp of Clyde; and five sisters, Betty (Bill) Lanning of Cambridge, Carol Jean (Michael) Baker of Largo, Fla., Norma (Michael) Aman of Delray Beach, Fla., Mary (Lee) Eley of Highland, Ill., and Della (Tim) Bollenbacher of Clyde.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel, and two brothers, Clifford Jr. and Byron.

Merlin J. Blackwell
Loving father and grandfather Merlin J. Blackwell, 73, of West Liberty, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at the home of a daughter in DeGraff.
Born April 23, 1932, the last child to be born at the Mac-O-Chee Castle in West Liberty, he was a son of the late Paul Ward and Cecile Thoman Blackwell.
On April 21, 1956, he married Marilyn Sue Wade, and she preceded him in death Sept. 27, 1990. He married Janet Southerd on Aug. 20, 1994, and she died June 22, 2005.
One brother, Wayne Blackwell also preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Jeffery J. (Amy) Blackwell of DeGraff; two daughters, Diana Blackwell of DeGraff and Becky (Marvin) McCully of DeGraff; two sisters, Carolyn (Tom) Alexander of Bellefontaine and Mary E. (Robert) Jr. Jackson of Zanesfield; and four grandchildren, Michelle, Andrea and Daniel McCully and Caleb Blackwell.
He was a Linotype setter for Merchants Industries Inc.
A 1950 graduate of Monroe School and a veteran of the United States Navy, he was a member of the West Liberty Church of God, West Liberty Lions Club, Logan County Antique Power Association and Pleasant Grange. In addition, he was a former 4-H adviser, member of the VFW Honor Guard and an avid sportsman.
The Rev. Ron Irick conducts the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home, West Liberty. Burial is in the Middleburg Cemetery with military rites performed by the Logan County Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Liberty Church of God.

Tamera Jo Patton Myers
Tamera Jo Patton Myers, 45, of Lewisburg, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, in her residence.
She was born in Lake Charles, La., on Oct. 25, 1959, a daughter of Joe (Alberta) Patton who survives in Naples, Fla., and the late Peggy Ann Klinger Franz. Her grandparents, Robert and Lois Klinger, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include grandparents, Richard and Wanda Patton of West Liberty; brothers, Don (Pam) Patton of Belle Center and Chris (Mary) Franz of Las Vegas; stepbrother, Joe (Sandy) Arrasmith of Sabina; and stepsisters, Anita (John) Rolfe and Pam (Chris) Romohr, both of Sabina, and Sherrie Hertzler of Loveland.
A funeral, led by Don Patton, begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Christ Covenant Church in Bellefontaine. No calling hours are planned.
Eichholtz Funeral Home in Belle Center handled arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tricare Hospice.

Leota E. 'Lee' Newland
Leota E. "Lee" Newland, 62, of Belle Center, died at 10:13 a.m., Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, in her home.
She was born Oct. 24, 1942, in Dunkirk, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Leah Maude Hammer Hinkle. On Dec. 31, 1968, she married Jerome D. Newland, who survives.
She was a homemaker and former fork lift operator at Nash Finch Co. She was a member of the Roundhead United Methodist Church, where she was a past youth advisor and chairwoman of the administrative board; Eagles Auxiliary Aerie 3615 of Indian Lake; Roundhead VFS Post 8832 Auxiliary; a life member of AMVETS Post 39 in Lakeview; the United Methodist Women of which she was a past president; and Teamsters Union Local 908 in Lima.
Also surviving are three sons, Patrick (Mary) Shelly in the U.S. Navy; Michael Shelly of Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada; and Russell (Winn) Perdue of Montgomery, Ala.; a daughter, Tracy (Herbert) McPherson of Huntsville; four grandchildren, Melissa, Travis and Josh Shelly and Leah and Lance McPherson; a sister Lois (Clifton) Linke of Alger; and two step-daughters, Teresa Warner and Brenda Snell, both of Dayton. A step-son, Joey Newland, preceded her in death.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Cremation will follow. Private family memorial services will occur on later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Logan County MR/DD Discovery Center or Logan County Tri-Care Hospice.

Joseph L. Gray
Former Springfield newspaper editor Joseph L. Gray, 86, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005.
He was born in Springfield on Sept. 17, 1918, a son of the late Joseph L. and Katherine Burton Gray.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary; three daughters, Eleanor (Barry) Ratliff of Kentucky, Katherine (Phil) Reeves of Florida and Susan (Mark) Barlow of Bellefontaine; and eight grandchildren.
Educated in local Springfield schools, he attended Wittenberg University where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
He served as a paratrooper in the 503rd RCT with the United States Army, jumping on the Corregidor in the Philippines during World War II.
For 32 years, he was employed by the Springfield News and Sun newspapers, starting as a sports writer and retiring as editor.
In 1978, he and his wife moved to Hilton Head Island, where he was editor of The Islander Magazine.
He enjoyed golf, writing, reading and crossword puzzles.
Calling is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home in Springfield. A graveside service begins at 3 p.m. Friday in Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield. Another memorial service at The Seabrook in South Carolina is planned for September.
Memorial contributions may be made to Volunteers in Medicine, 15 Northridge Drive, Hilton Head Island, S.C. 29926; and The Seabrook Endowment Fund, 300 Woodhaven Drive, Hilton Head Island, S.C. 29928.

Hallie Roberta Jordan
Hallie Roberta Jordan, 83, of Valley Hi, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at the Heartland of Bellefontaine.
She was born on Nov. 15, 1921, in Woodford County, Ky., a daughter of Clarence C. and Sarah M. Utterback Coyle.
Her family remembers her as an excellent cook and a caring homemaker and loving mother.
She was a member of the Goshen Friends Church where she was involved in Vacation Bible School and Friends Missionaries. She also belonged to the garden clubs of Richwood, Ohio, and Springfield, Colo.
She is survived by seven sons and six daughters-in-law, Michael A. and Sue Jordan of Valley Hi, Paul S. and Billie Jordan of Richwood, Phillip C. and Cheryl Jordan of Norton, Lee A. and Teresa Jordan of Valley Hi, Terry Jordan of Marion, Roger E. and Amy Jordan of Buena Park, Calif., and John and Sherri Jordan of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Maggie Lou Finnell of Lexington, Ky.; ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard A. Jordan; four sisters, Annabelle Patterson, Alene Harding, Eleanor Coyle and Phoebe Howard; four brothers, Virgil Coyle, Wheeler Coyle, Clarence Caywood Coyle and Vernon Caywood Coyle; and one grandson, Jeff Jordan.
A gathering of family and friends is from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Littleton and Rue Funeral Home, Highland Chapel, West Liberty, where the service begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Friends Missions.

Robert C. King
Robert C. King, 83, of Jackson Center, died at 6:55 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
Born Feb. 6, 1922, in Hopkins, Mo., he was a son of the late Clarence C. and Cleo E. Clayton King.
On Nov. 12, 1944, he married Ruth E. Snider, and she preceded him in death April 2, 2004.
A retired farmer and machinist at EMI in Jackson Center, he was a member of the Jackson Center United Methodist Church. An active Mason, he was a member of the Jackson Center Lodge 458 F&AM for 60 years and a 50-year member of the Eureka Chapter of Order of Eastern Star 136. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine Temple of Dayton, Shelby County 32 Club and the Shelby County Shrine Club.
He also was a 50-year member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau and was a past president of both the Jackson Center Board of Education and Zoning Board. In 2001, he was inducted into the Jackson Center Education Foundation Hall of Fame.
Survivors include one daughter, Marcia (Ronald) Wiessinger of Jackson Center; one brother, Donald King of Burlington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
A granddaughter, Sharon, died July 17, 1987.
Pastor Sylvia Hull and the Rev. Jackie Leigh conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Jackson Center United Methodist Church. Burial is in Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Van Horn Funeral Home, Jackson Center, and at the church one hour prior to the service. A Masonic service begins at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson Center Education Foundation.
