Donnal Lewis Stanley
Donnal Lewis Stanley, 83, of West Liberty, died at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born in Zanesfield on Feb. 10, 1920, a son of the late Gilmore and Audrey Donnal Stanley.
On June 10, 1941, he married the former Helen Virginia Kress in Dayton, and she survives, along with a son, James Walter (Sandy) Stanley of West Liberty; one daughter, Rosemary (Al) Macioce of Sidney; one brother, Joe (Jane) Ford of Rosewood; two sisters, Wilma (Bill) Russell of Urbana and Jane Ache of Gas City, Ind.; three grandchildren, D.J. (Helen) Stanley, Bill (Jennifer) Stanley and Gina Macioce; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin Taylor Stanley and Shelby Stanley.
He worked construction for many years and taught a carpentry and blueprint class at the Springfield-Clark County Joint Vocational School in Springfield, until his retirement in 1985, after 18 years of service. He was a member of the teacher's union.
He served as a zoning inspector for Monroe Township for several years and was a 60-year member of Boggs Lodge Free and Accepted Masons in DeGraff. His hobbies included fishing and golfing.
Maxine Maude Brown Swaim
Former Lakeview resident Maxine Maude Brown Swaim, 88, of Columbus, died at 4:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, following an extended bout with cancer, in the home of a nephew, Johnny (Vickie) Pelfrey of Columbus, with whom she resided.
She was born in Morgan County, Ky., on Feb. 16, 1915, a daughter of the late Frank and Margaret "Maggie" Wallin Brown.
On March 16, 1946, she married Joseph Milton Swaim and he preceded her in death Jan. 20, 1982. A sister and two brothers also preceded her in death.
Also surviving are one sister, Dixie (John) Pelfrey of Martha, Ky.; three stepsons, James (Connie) Swaim of Fairfax, Vt., Thomas (Janet) Swaim of Fairborn and Robert (Patricia) Swaim of Circleville; several stepgrandchildren; and several other nieces, nephews and special friends.
A retired waitress, she attended the Reynoldsburg Freewill Baptist Church and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 3615 and the Golden Age Senior Citizens at Indian Lake.
Willard C. Morris
Willard C. Morris, 91, of Lakeview, died at 2:17 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Heartland of Indian Lake, Lakeview.
Born June 1, 1911, in Goshen Township, Auglaize County, he was a son of the late G. Earl and Opal V. Thrush Morris.
He married Dorothea A. Berry on Jan. 16, 1936, and she survives.
He formerly owned and operated Morris Market in New Hampshire and Chippewa Trophy in Lakeview. He retired from Superior Tube in Wapakoneta. He was a member of the Lima Rabbit Breeder's Association.
Also surviving are one daughter, Martha A. (James Sr.) Cole of Lakeview; one son, Robert E. (Barbara) Morris of Lakeview; one sister, Koneta DeLong of Summerville, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
One sister, Mary Oliver Rush, is deceased.
Ruth H. Zimmerman
Ruth H. Zimmerman, 85, of Lakeview, died at 5:50 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Logan Acres.
She was born in Stokes Township, Logan County, on Jan. 17, 1917, a daughter of the late Harry W. and Clara Lena McCormick Taylor.
She married Chester A. Zimmerman on Jan. 17, 1942, and he preceded her in death Jan. 31, 1994.
The homemaker and member of Christ United Methodist Church is survived by one son, Carl (Kathy) Zimmerman of DeGraff; two granddaughters, Susan Zimmerman of Grove City and Michele Zimmerman of Marysville; five sisters, Vertie Harford and Betty Snapp, both of Lakeview, Marie (Walter) Hites of Lima, Lena Harford of Wapakoneta and Wilma (Richard) Buffenbarger of Waynesfield; and one brother, Carl W. (Wanda) Taylor of Lakeview.
She was preceded in death by one son, Steve A., who died in the Vietnam War on July 20, 1968, and one sister, Irene Oakley.
Helen Mae Downing
Helen Mae Downing, 85, of Bellefontaine, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Cheyenne Wells, Colo., on Jan. 1, 1918, to the late Jay G. and Thelma Mae Turner Detrick, she was a 1936 graduate of Bellefontaine High School. On May 22, 1938, in the Methodist parsonage in Bellefontaine, she married Don Downing, and he survives.
A faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, she belonged to the Aimwell Sunday School Class and taught Sunday School for 35 years.
Mrs. Downing was a homemaker and retired bus driver for the former Hi-Point School and Ludlow Center. She was an original member of the Mothers Club which was instrumental in the beginning of the Logan County MR/DD. In 1979, she was honored by Gov. James Rhodes as Mother of the Year for her MR/DD volunteer services.
She held memberships in Harrison Grange 378, where she was a Golden Sheaf member; Pomona Grange 3, Blue Jacket Social Club, Farm Bureau, Order of the Eastern Star 459, King's Daughters and Sons, Logan County Republican Women and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Downing also was preceded in death by one son, Donald Wayne Downing; one daughter, Mary Beth Downing; and one sister, Naomi Jean Detrick Lochridge.
Also surviving are five daughters, Barbara (Robert) Floss of Hampton, Ark., Nancy (Richard) Harmon of Bellefontaine, Donna (Dan) Risner of Bellefontaine, Beverly D. Edwards of Tallahassee, Fla., and Thelma (Keith) Matthews of Bellefontaine; 24 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patricia L. Kenoyer
Patricia L. Kenoyer, 66, of Urbana and formerly of Bellefontaine, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, in her home.
Born in Lima on March 17, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Earl Ritchie and Edythe Ward Ritchie, who survives in Bellefontaine.
On Dec. 31, 1957, she married Donald E. Kenoyer in Bellefontaine, and he survives along with one son, Michael D. (Rose) Kenoyer of Bellefontaine; four grandchildren, Mary, Mitchell, Edward and William Kenoyer; three sisters, Adrianne (Thomas E.) O'Connor of Belle Center, Mary Susan (Jerry) Clampet of Philadelphia and Ann Atkins of Dallas, Texas.
A sister, Jean Allen, preceded her in death.
She was a travel agent with Creative Travel in Marysville. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine and the Four Seasons Garden Club in Urbana.
Marjorie Roseanna Schlumbohm Jones
Former Huntsville resident Marjorie Roseanna Schlumbohm Jones, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Huron-Valley Community Hospice in Novi, Mich., while staying with her daughter in nearby Walled Lake, Mich.
She was born in Defiance County on Jan. 19, 1915, a daughter of the late Richard and Estelle Overly Schlumbohm. She moved with her family to Logan County in 1919 and lived on farms in the Huntsville area.
On Oct. 24, 1942, she married Claren Corwin Jones in the home of her parents in Huntsville. He preceded her in death, as did one sister, Kathryn Mae (Alfred) Whelan.
She is survived by a son, Allen Claren (Dorann) Jones of Lake Jackson, Texas; two daughters, Susan Aileen Jones (Dwight) Hopper of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and Patricia Anne Jones (James) Corcoran of Walled Lake; six grandchildren, Myra and Karalyn Jones of Lake Jackson, Luke Hooper of Jacksonville Beach, and Colin, Logan and Bree Corcoran of Walled Lake; many nieces and nephews; sisters, Deloras Oaklief of Grayling, Mich., and MaryLou Brown of Fairhope, Ala.; and brothers, Richard Schlumbohm of DeGraff and Robert Schlumbohm of Findlay.
She graduated in 1932 from Huntsville High School, where she was salutatorian and participated in many activities, including operettas, chorus and girls basketball.
She attended Bowling Green State University and Wayne State University in Detroit, earning degrees in elementary education. For the next 40 years, she taught school in West ansfield, Morral, Mt. Gilead, Marion, Kenton, Highland Park, Mich., and Livonia, Mich., where she retired in 1973.
In 1979, she and her husband returned to the Jones family farm near Rushsylvania. She was a member of the Logan County Historical Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church.
Kathryn L. Detwiler
Kathryn L. Detwiler of Bellefontaine died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, at home.
She was born Dec. 3 in Portsmouth, a daughter of Henry Clay and Lula Bemis Searcy.
She was married Sept. 14, 1935, to LaVon R. Detwiler, who preceded her in death Dec. 27, 1985. Two sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Detwiler is survived by one son, David (Peggy) Detwiler of Brookville; one daughter, Suzanne (John) Dennis of Bellefontaine; one grandson, Deron (Regina) Detwiler of Dayton; two stepgrandchildren and four great-stepgrandchildren.
Mrs. Detwiler taught dancing for many years in the area and then continued to assist her daughter at the Detwiler School of Dance, where she was fondly remembered as "Mrs. D."
Mary E. Myers
Mary E. Myers, 81, formerly of Vaughnsville, died at 9:15 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, in her daughter's Columbus Grove home.
She was born in Rushmore on April 15, 1920, a daughter of the late Russell E. and Persis Ford Barnes.
On Dec. 14, 1941, she married Richard D. Myers and he preceded her in death March 25, 1996.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Vaughnsville Christian Union Church.
She is survived by three sons, Larry R. (Brenda) Myers of Orlando, Fla., Randall D. (Ginny) Myers of Bellefontaine and Ronald L. (Shay) Myers of Columbus; one daughter, Jean A. (Ken) Wright of Columbus Grove; three sisters, Helen (Howard) Metzger of Vaughnsville, Marge Hilgenburg of Tucson, Ariz., and Ann (Duane) Young of Vaughnsville and Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William Barnes.
