Richard L. Pemberton
Richard L. Pemberton, 80, of Grove City and formerly of Bellefontaine, died at 12:37 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.
Born Feb. 25, 1922, in Cedarville, he was a daughter of the late John S. and Stella Mae Murphy Pemberton.
On July 24, 1943, in Richmond, Ind., he married Patricia Neal, and she preceded him in death Nov. 30, 1999.
A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he worked for the former Detroit Aluminum Brass Company in Bellefontaine. The standardbred horse trainer was a member of the Ohio Horseman Association.
Survivors include two sons, Richard A. (Marjorie) Pemberton of Grove City and Keith (Angela) Pemberton of Bellefontaine; two daughters, Heidi Ann (Randy) Taylor of Huntsville and Abby Grossman of Bexley; one brother, Sam Pemberton of Yuma, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Gardner and Helen Irwin.
James Joseph Smith
James Joseph Smith, 71, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his residence in Fruitland Park, Fla.
Born in Bellefontaine on Nov. 4, 1930, he was a son of the late Johnson and Helen Smith. He moved to Fruitland Park from the Indian Lake area in 1993.
He was a supervisor with D.A.B. Industries for 39 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 3615, Indian Lake, and a lifetime member of AMVETS.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years Lois Jean Smith; three daughters, Debbie Bishop of Dublin, Karen Lyons of Lakeview, Teri Smith of Newburyport, Mass.; one stepson, Jim Nash of West Liberty; three grandchildren, Amber (Mark) Wagner of Grand Rapids, Mich., Shanna Robinson of Columbus and Brandon Lyons of Lakeview; one stepgranddaughter, Lauren Bishop of North Carolina; two brothers, John (Carolyn) Smith and George (Eileen) Smith, both of Bellefontaine; three sisters, Mary (Frank) Alexander of Bellefontaine, and Eileen (Donald A.) Kaufman and Carolyn Heminger of West Liberty; and many nieces and nephews.
A sister, Kathleen "Katie" Wren and brother-in-law, Robert Heminger, preceded him in death.
Mary F. Wagoner
Mary F. Wagoner, 74, of Huntsville, died at 9:28 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Florida South Hospital in Orlando, Fla.
She was born in Bartholomew County, Ind., on March 1, 1928, a daughter of the late Everett J. and Myrtle Starbuck Burns.
On April 26, 1946, she married Donald E. Wagoner and he survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Logan County Quilters Guild and the Lake County Quilters Guild of Tavares, Fla.
Also surviving are one daughter, Joanna M. (Lee) Born of Huntsville; two sons, William Samuel Wagoner of Lewistown and Dennis E. Wagoner of Las Vegas; three grandchildren, William C. Wagoner, Jennifer Born and Sean Kasey Born; two great-grandchildren, Keely and Collin Wagoner; one sister, Rachael Evans of Lake Havasu, Ark.; one brother, Charles Burns of Oklahoma City; and Janie DeValk of Tucson, Ariz., who during her high school years was reared in the home of Mrs. Wagoner's parents.
Laura H. Bowden
Laura H. Bowden, 92, of Bellefontaine, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
She was born in Lenoir City, Tenn., on June 9, 1910, a daughter of the late Elmer and Rita Hudgens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Bowden, and a sister, Addie Hudgens Thomas.
Survivors include a son, Joseph (Ruth) Bowden of Bellefontaine; a daughter, Barbara Armstrong of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandchildren, Nancy Armstrong of St. Augustine, Sally (David) Cook of Hixon, Tenn., and Lauren Bowden of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Jonathon Cook of Hixon and Tommy Gelsomino of St. Augustine; nephew, Michael (Frances) Thomas of Nashville, Tenn.; great-niece, Dr. Kimberly Thomas of Annapolis, Md.; and great-nephew, Michael Thomas II of Nashville.
A bookkeeper for many years, she was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church and several clubs and organizations in Lenoir City.
Charles M. Burnside
Charles M. Burnside, 44, of Williamsburg, Ky., and formerly of Rushsylvania, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at his residence.
Born Dec. 8, 1958 in Orlando, Fla., he was a son of Fred Burnside, who survives in West Liberty, and the late Louella Flick Burnside.
On Nov. 17, 1978, he married Amy Lattimer in Ridgeway, and she survives.
He was a truck driver. He and his wife moved to Williamsburg in 1993 from Rushsylvania.
Survivors include two daughters, Jackalyn (Charlie) Doolin of Richmond, Ind., and Elizabeth Burnside of Williamsburg; and two grandchildren, Carlie Anne Doolin and William Carlos Doolin.
Myron Phillip Clark Sr.
Myron Phillip Clark Sr., 65, of Ridgeway, died at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, in St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born in West Mansfield on July 10, 1937, a son of the late Lloyd and Maxine McGinnis Clark. One son, Allen, and one granddaughter also preceded him in death.
On Oct. 26, 1959, he married the former Sarah Burns in Winchester, Va., and she survives, along with two sons, Gerald (Mary) Clark of Las Vegas and Myron P. Clark Jr. of Ridgeway; two daughters, Gwenda (Roy) Jackson of Lima and Angela Sue Clark (Dan Weaver) of Mt. Victory; and 10 grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers, Roland (Marilyn) Clark of Plain City, Douglas (Betty) Clark of Kenton, Joseph (Janice) Clark of Tucson, Ariz., and Alex (Carolyn) Clark of Fremont; one sister, Darlene (Dwight) Brittford of Columbus; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In 1970, he retired from Detroit Aluminum and Brass in Bellefontaine. He was a member of the Baptist faith, enjoyed traveling with the Amish, and raising and racing horses.
He served in the Army Reserves and was a lifetime member of the AMVETS Post 20 in Kenton.
Carson Fay
Carson Fay, 85, of Ridgeway, died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in his residence.
He was born in Greenfield on April 28, 1917, a son of the late James O. and Allie Mae Alexander Fay.
On Oct. 15, 1935, he married the former Marie Myers in Kenton, and she preceded him in death Sept. 24, 2000. Also preceding him in death were 14 siblings and one great-granddaughter.
He is survived by three sons, Larry (Connie) Fay of Kenton, John (Cheryl) Fay of Rushsylvania and Fred (Connie) Fay of Mt. Victory; three daughters, Joyce (Barney) Ohler of Kenton and Ann (Bob) Morris and Linda (Ron) James, both of Mt. Victory; 19 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
A self-employed carpenter, he was a former member of the Kenton Moose Family Center.
Richard L. Martin
Richard L. Martin, 78, of Bellefontaine, died at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born in Champaign County on Sept. 1, 1924, a son of the late Benjamin "Bennie" and Catherine Bump Martin.
On July 14, 1944, he married the former Marie Elouise Ropp in Kentucky and she preceded him in death Jan. 9, 1977. A brother, Glen Martin, and a sister, Alma Martin Wheeler Copeland, also preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Richard E. (Sharyl) Martin and John R. Martin, both of Bellefontaine; three daughters, Shirley M. Beckford of West Liberty, Karen S. (Greg) Humble of Harrison and Sharon (Clark) McDaniel of Bellefontaine; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Jennie) Martin of Urbana; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Illa Poe.
He was a farmer in Logan and Champaign counties and a school bus driver at West Liberty-Salem for 27 years.
Doris W. Carr Floate
Doris W. Carr Floate, 90, of Springfield, and formerly of Rosewood, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Community Hearth and Home in Springfield.
She was born in Rosewood on Sept. 6, 1912, a daughter of the late Gerald Orvin and Bessie Anne Stephenson Weimer.
On April 6, 1936, she married Cecil Millard Carr and he preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1986. She married Clare E. Floate of Maple Rapids, Mich., on Sept. 14, 1988, and he died July 22, 1999.
Survivors include, sons, Jerrold W. (Rita) Carr of Rosewood and Dennis L. Carr of Macon, Ga.; grandchildren, Cynthia (Gary) Clark of Rosewood, Tracy Carr of St. Paris, Todd (Denise) Carr of Troy and Jodi (Kevin) Beckstedt of Hardin; great-grandchildren, Carly and David Clark and Brandon, Shelby, Haley and Matthew Carr; stepgrandchildren, Liane Tyler, Lyle (Marge) Floate and Larry (Virgilene) Floate, all of Michigan; and one cousin, Dorothy Hinds of Wisconsin.
She was a secretary at Graham North Elementary School for eight years and retired from Fairlawn High School in 1977 after 11 years of service.
A 1930 graduate of Harrison Adams High School in Rosewood, she was a member of the Rosewood United Methodist Church and the Sarah Elizabeth Chapter Order of Eastern Star 335 and a former member of the Rosewood Homemakers Club.
