Luther Luke Lambert
Luther Luke Lambert, 76, of Bellefontaine, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, in his home.
The seventh son of a seventh son, he was born in Bellefontaine on July 7, 1929, a son of the late Carl and Essie Dickerson Lambert, and would have been 77 years old Friday. On Dec. 15, 1956, he married the former Dolores Sabick and she died March 17, 1986.
He also was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth, Corbet, Frederick, Charles and Alfred Lambert; and a sister, Lena Ruth Lambert.
He married the former Mary Quinn Gooding on April 22, 1988, and she survives, along with sons, Dr. Robert W. (Kelly) Lambert of Cincinnati, Patrick A. Lambert of Bellefontaine and Gary L. (Erin Mottet) Lambert of Columbus; stepsons, Ronald K. (Linda) Gooding of Lakeview, Gene (Linda) Gooding of Vermillion and Gregg A. (Cindy) Gooding of Jackson Center; stepdaughter, Jill M. (Kody) Newland of Phoenix; brother, Carl Lambert of DeGraff; four grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and eight great-stepgrandchildren.
After 41 years of service, he retired as a conductor from Conrail in 1990. An outstanding athlete at Bellefontaine High School, he was a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, American Legion Post 173, AMVETS and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
The Revs. A.W. Purdin and Patrick L. Sheridan conduct a funeral at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, where calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the funeral Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan County Honor Guard, which conducts graveside military rites in Calvary Cemetery, Bellefontaine.
Michael K. Ricketts
Devoted son, husband, father and grandfather Michael K. Ricketts, 56, of Zanesfield, passed away unexpectedly at 8:46 a.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006, in the emergency room at Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Bellefontaine on April 18, 1950, a son of Myron "Jay" and Kathleen Comer Ricketts, who survive in Zanesfield.
A brother, Dean Ricketts, preceded him in death.
On April 28, 1973, he married the former Vicky Penhorwood in Zanesfield and she survives, along with a son, Jeffrey M. Ricketts of Bellefontaine; daughters, Shelby J. (Matthew) Haley of Bellefontaine and Cori M. (fiancé Phillip Morse) Ricketts of North Carolina; a brother, Ronald (Dee) Ricketts of Zanesfield; mother-inlaw, Norma (Dr. C.T.) Richardson of Bellefontaine; granddaughter, McKenzie Haley; stepgrandchildren, Kameren Haley, Jazmyn Haley, Adair Haley and Matthew Haley II; and several nieces and nephews.
A 1968 graduate of Logan Hills High School, he was a Vietnam Army veteran. For 38 years, he worked as a conductor for CSX Railroad, formerly Conrail and Penn Central railroads.
A friend to all, he was a member of the Zanesfield United Methodist Church, Zanesfield American Legion and ABATE of Ohio Motorcycle Club. He loved to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The Rev. Jerry McQueen conducts a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday at Zanesfield Cemetery. Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine.

Roger Dale Carman
Roger Dale Carman Sr. 62, of West Liberty, died at 11:23 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2006, at the V.A. Medical Center, Dayton.
He was born in Jackson on July 31, 1943, a son of the late Byron and Leafy May Walker Carman. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Owen Carman; and a sister, Carol Peele.
Survivors include a son, Roger D. (Kimberly) Carman Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Shannon (Steve) Akers of Dayton; brothers, James (Nancy) Carman of Lakeview, Lawrence "Bud" (Donna) Carman of Jackson Center and William "Butch" (Sharon) Carman of DeGraff; a sister, Juanita Lattimer of West Liberty; seven grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Jamie, Justin, Taylor, Tyler, Candace and Kayla; and two great-grandchildren.
A self-employed construction contractor and U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, he was a member of the American Legion Post 173, Veterans of Foreign 1080 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2166, all in Bellefontaine, and AMVETS Post 39 and Indian Lake Moose Lodge, Lakeview.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where a funeral begins at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff.
Joe R. Birt
Joe R. Birt, 66, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006.
He was born in Champaign County on Dec. 17, 1939, a son of the late Leonard W. and Anna P. West Birt.
From 1957 to 1961, he served with the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Hawaii, where he met his wife, the former Judith Kauffman.
She preceded him in death July 30, 2003. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters-in-law.
Survivors include two daughters, Maile (Jimmy) Recolan and Nicole Birt, both of Ewa Beach; a son, Jeffrey Birt of Ewa Beach; three grandchildren, Shauna Birt and Zackery and Zoie Recolan, all of Ewa Beach; a brother, Richard (Jenny) Birt of New Knoxville; three sisters, Irene (Ralph) Dickinson of Silver Springs, Fla., and Eileen (Howard) Mosbarger and Nellie (Charles) Crumley, both of Urbana; and one sister-in-law, June Birt of Rushsylvania.
While living in Champaign County, he was employed at The Urbana Mills, Plastic Research Products, and Murphy Lumber Co.
After moving to Hawaii, he worked at Pearl Harbor Ship Yards from 1966 to 1993, retiring as a machinist general foreman. He then worked for Costal Windows until 1994 and Matson Navigation until 2001, retiring as a refrigeration foreman.
Services begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Miliani Memorial Park and Mortuary at the Mauka Chapel in Waipahi, Hawaii, where calling is one hour prior.
Janice J. White
Janice J. White, 76, of Siesta Key, Fla., and formerly of Harpster, died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at the home of her son, Bradley White, in Helen, Ga.
She was born in Brush Ridge, Wyandot County, on May 31, 1930, a daughter of the late Elmer and Erma Bibler Myers. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Turney.
On July 31, 1949, she married Ronald White in the Brush Ridge Baptist Church in Brush Ridge, and he survives, along with a daughter, Diane (Mark) Dawson of Greensboro, N.C.; sons, Bradley (Shirley) White of Helen, Ga., and Christopher (Kimberly) White of Carmel, Ind.; six grandchildren, Brandon Abshier, Courtney Abshier, Sean White, Scott White, Denise White and Erick White; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Julia and Ethan; four special friends, Valerie, Jacob, Christopher and Jennifer; and a sister, Lorene Vernell (Ralph) Freshour of Harpster.
A 1948 Harpster High School graduate, she was a devoted mother and homemaker who at one time worked for North Electric and Phone, which according to her family might explain her obsession with talking on the phone to family and friends.
At one time, she was a member of the Grand Prairie Baptist Church. She and her husband spent the past years in Siesta Key, Fla., Greensboro, N.C., and Helen, Ga. She enjoyed shopping, reading and traveling.
A funeral begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, where calling is from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the charities of the donors’ choices.
Earnest H.P. Daum
Earnest H.P. Daum, 84, of Huntsville, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at Mary Rutan Hospital following a five-month illness.
He retired in November 1978 as a shipping clerk at General Motors, Turnstead Division on West Broad St., Columbus, where he had worked since 1948.
He was also a former railroader and an employee of Union Stone Quarry in Watkins. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the 66th division tank corps during World War II.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and during his retirement years, he and his wife were "snowbirds" in North Ft. Myers, Fla. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating on Indian Lake. He attended school at St. John's Lutheran.
He was born May 11, 1932, in Marysville to the late George P. and Margaret Streng Daum. He married Lena Thompson on June 19, 1940, in Greenup, Ky., and she died Dec. 21, 2002. Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Judy Phipps in 2004; brothers, Leonard, Gerhardt, Manuel, George, Ray and Harold; and sisters, Lena, Clara, Katharine and Ernestine.
Survivors include two sons, Ernest (Shirley) Daum of Russells Point and Larry (Linda) Daum of West Mansfield; nine grandchildren, Bill (Jodi) Phipps of St. Paris, Mike (Stephanie) Phipps, Mark (Kelly) Daum, Steven (Debbie) Daum and Tony (Rita) Daum, all of Marysville, Karen (Eric) Williams of Indiana, and Margaret Daum, Mary Daum and David (Jennifer) Daum, all of West Mansfield; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Albert) Mabe of Powell; a brother-in-law, Fred "Jack" (Esther) Thompson of Unionville Center; a sister-in-law, Carolyn (Daum) of Columbus; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville, where calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the funeral service. The Rev. Barry Scott officiates and burial is in Oakdale Cemetery beside his wife.
Military honors are provided by the Union County Military Funeral Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church memorial fund.
John R. Franz
John R. Franz, 77, of Lakeview and formerly of Bradenton, Fla., and Waynesfield, died at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at his home.
He was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Urbana, to the late George W. and Lucille Schneider Franz. On Dec. 26, 1949, he married Cicely U. Claude, who died Aug. 30, 1993.
A counselor for the National Cremation Society in Florida, he was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Russells Point, and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include five sons, John Michale Franz, Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., Anthony Paul Franz, of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Christopher G. Franz, Timothy J. Franz and Nicholas R. Franz, all of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Lois M. Souder of Waynesfield and Rita S. (Bruce) Anthony of Wapakoneta; and close friends, Pam and Sandy Martin of Lakeview. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph H. Franz.
No public service or visiting hours are planned. The cremated remains will be buried in the Franz family plot in Oakdale Cemetery, Urbana.
