Helen E. Bowman
Former Lakeview resident Helen E. Bowman, 92, of Greenville, died at 8:20 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in Wayne Hospital, Greenville. She was born in North Lewisburg on Nov. 20, 1908, a daughter of Omer C. "Jack" and Ethel G. Millington Hudson.
She married Curtis E. Bowman on Nov. 20, 1929, and he preceded her in death Feb. 8, 1993. Mrs. Bowman was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis (Russell) Royer of Greenville; one son, Donald Bowman of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; three grandchildren, Debbie Robinson, Steve Royer and Angie Gibbons; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lura Sanders of Lakeview and Mary Lou Lair of Sumter, S.C.; two brothers, Ralph Hudson of Russells Point and Gerald (Helen) Hudson of Lakeview; and one sister-in-law, Winifred Smith of Bellefontaine.
Two sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
Helen Irene Fryling
Helen Irene Fryling, 91, of Rushsylvania, died at 2:50 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in Mary Rutan Hospital.
Born in Springfield on Sept. 30, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Rose Gaffney Mosier. She married Virgil TaZoni Fryling on March 27, 1929, in Covington, Ky., and he died May 27, 1979.
A homemaker, she is survived by a son, Virgil T. (Margaret) Fryling Jr. of Belle Center; a daughter, Sue (Jay) Yeates of Venus, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty (Jack) O'Neil of Springfield and Anna Josephine Jordan of Bellefontaine.
She was preceded in death by a son, David S. Fryling; two daughters, Marilyn Cummins and Virginia Fryling; two brothers; and four sisters.
Richard Raymond Knief
Richard Raymond Knief, 90, of 6559 S. U.S. Route 68 Apt. 6, West Liberty, died at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born in Logan County on July 27, 1911, a son of Charles H. and Bertha Fogt Knief.
Mr. Knief married Charlotte Evaline Brown on Sept. 13, 1947, and she preceded him in death April 28, 1998.
A 1931 graduate of DeGraff High School, Mr. Knief was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Bellefontaine and the Miami Valley Post 652 of the American Legion in DeGraff. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was retired as a carpenter for Humble Construction in West Liberty and had formerly worked at the A.J. Miller Co.
He is survived by two nephews, John Davis Jr. of Jackson Center and Darrell Knief of Bellefontaine; one niece, Jeanne Sprague of Indianapolis; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, Lee, Ernest and Royal Knief; and one sister, Eva Davis.
George W. Owen
George W. Owen, 84, of Russells Point, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Logan Acres.
A native of Covington, Ky., he was born July 20, 1917, a son of the late Benjamin H. and Ella Dawson Owen.
On May 12, 1946, he married D. Marlene "Mickey" Fourman, who survives.
Mr. Owen retired from Delco Air after 36 years in 1979.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater for two years, he was a member of the American Legion Harold Kerr Post 173, Bellefontaine.
Mr. Owen also was a member of the Indian Lake Community Church and Indian Lake Lodge 722, F&AM, where he was a past master and served as secretary for 14 years. In addition, he belonged to the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, the Bellefontaine Chapter 459 Order of the Eastern Star and the Indian Lake Senior Citizens.
Along with his wife, he is survived by three sons, Benjamin (Verna) of Huntsville, Kenneth (Sandra) of Englewood and David (Margie) Torrance of California; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death in 1998 by one grandson, Michael.
Donna L. Rucker
Donna L. Rucker, 52, of 16887 County Road 240, Ridgeway, died at 11:17 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.
She was born in Pikeville, Ky., on Feb. 2, 1949, a daughter of Raymond Pinson and Emily Easterling White. Her father is deceased.
On Oct. 10, 1970, she married Pastor G. Michael Rucker, who survives along with two daughters, Mrs. Brian (Dawn) Newell of Dayton and Mrs. Chris (Sara) Dillbone of Napoleon; and one grandson.
Also surviving are two brothers, Raymond Pinson Jr. of Sidney and Fred R. Pinson of Fairfield; and her mother and stepfather, Chester and Emily White of Sidney.
A 1967 graduate of Sidney High School, she had been a hair stylist in Sidney for 30 years.
Mrs. Rucker was a member of the First Church of God in Ridgeway and worked as an administrative assistant for Watson & Associates in Bellefontaine.
Ina Hower
Ina Hower, 97, of Bellefontaine died at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
Born March 28, 1904, in Lakeview, she was a daughter of H.B. and Grace Rinbolt Runyon.
On May 23, 1928, she married Emery Hower, who preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1964.
Mrs. Hower was a homemaker and attended the Zanesfield United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Glenna (Carl) Lyon and Grace (Elmer) Lyon, both of Bellefontaine; one brother, Harry Runyon of Foley, Ala.; two sisters, Margie Willoby of Piqua and Eileen Ruck of Wapakoneta; six grandchildren, Michael (Laura) Lyon, Jerry (Susan) Lyon, Donald (Karen) Lyon, Steven Lyon, Craig Lyon and Shirley Pruett; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kathy Jackson; a great-grandson, Scott Lyon; a brother, Emery Runyon; and one sister, Deloris Blum.
Marietta "Betty" Jacobs
Marietta "Betty" Jacobs, 88, of Huntsville, died at 12:55 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
Born in Doyon, N.D., on Aug. 31, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Jennie Collins Baldwin.
On Sept. 19, 1931, she married David O. Jacobs. He died Dec. 3, 1966.
Mrs. Jacobs worked at a cook at the former O'Connor's Landing at Indian Lake. She also was a cashier for Martz IGA in Huntsville, and also worked at the Colonial Coin Laundry in Bellefontaine.
A member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church and the Bellefontaine Senior Citizens, she also was a member of the Charles R. Collins Post 381 Auxiliary, American Legion in Huntsville.
Survivors include one son, David L. (Nancy) Jacobs of Belle Center; two grandchildren, Misty Jacobs of Belle Center and Chad (Kandy) Jacobs of Harper.
She was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.
Gail Leasure
Gail Leasure, 80, of Radnor, died Friday afternoon, Aug. 24, 2001, in his residence.
Born on Jan. 29, 1921, in Logan County, he was a son of Greene and Leola Campbell Leasure. He was a dairy farmer and member of the Radnor United Congregational Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Cummins of Delaware and Joyce (Paul) Jones of Radnor; two sons, David (Pat) Leasure and Jerry (Rhonda) Leasure, all of Radnor; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-stepgranddaughter; and one sister, Ruby Vermillion of Lewistown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise in July 2000; an infant daughter, Jeannie Lee; a brother, Ralph; and a sister, Annamae Benchoff.
Ivaleah Irene Shultz
Ivaleah Irene Shultz, 91, of East Liberty, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Heartland of Bellefontaine following a serious two-week illness.
She was born March 2, 1910, in Marysville, a daughter of the late Clarence H. and Daisy L. Figley Gibson.
On Dec. 30, 1961, she married Ralph H. Shultz in East Liberty, and he preceded her in death Dec. 5, 2000. A brother, Clifford Dale Gibson, is also deceased.
A loving homemaker and farmer's wife, Mrs. Shultz was a member of the East Liberty United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Farm Bureau, the West Mansfield Bug Tusslers Garden Club and was the first female to serve on the Logan County Fair Board.
Survivors include special family friends whom she and her husband considered their adoptive children and grandchildren: Barry and Marcia Moffett and their children, Michelle and Shari, all of Marysville; and other close family friends, Ron (Gretchen) Moffett of Swanton, Dan (Joan) Moffett of Columbus, Karen Moffett of Celina, Becky (Chuck) Schmitt of Wheeling, W. Va., and Cindy (Randy) Bell of Kenosha, Wis.
