Norine M. Voss
Former DeGraff resident Norine M. Voss, 86, of Reynoldsburg, died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Wesley Ridge/Special Care in Reynoldsburg.

Mrs. Voss was born in Auglaize County on Oct. 21, 1914, the daughter of the late Claude C. and Ilo Gary Bailey.

She married Dr. Robert F. Voss on Sept. 24, 1939 and he preceded her in death Nov. 14, 1994.

Mrs. Voss attended Blume High School in Wapakoneta and The Ohio State University. She did graduate work at the University of Illinois at Collinsville and was a member of the Delta Omicron Professional Music Fraternity.

She was a member of the Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church and the Pleiades Chapter 298 Order of Eastern Star, formerly Eureka Chapter 136 in Jackson Center.

Mrs. Voss is survived by two sisters, Iris E. Bailey of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Shirley B. Wallace of Auburn, Ind.; one brother, Robert F. (Anne) Bailey of Pataskala; two sisters-in-law, Avis Voss Drew of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Alberta Bailey of Floral City, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Two sisters and two brothers preceded Mrs. Voss in death.

Pauline Kollar

Pauline Kollar, 91, of Shawnee Manor Nursing Home, Cridersville, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, at 10:05 a.m.

Born on Oct. 1, 1909 in Forest, she was a daughter of Curtis and Laura Ensminger Warner. On Aug. 27, 1940, she married the Reverend Erdis Kollar, he died in June of 1969,

Survivors include: a daughter and two sons; Joyce K. (Ralph) Neill of Corning, Iowa; Eugene Kollar of Denver, CO and Curt Kollar of West Point, Ga.; two sisters: Berniece (Frederick) Mills, of Lima, and Chloie Warner, of Cridersville: two granddaughters Marta, of Fort Collins, CO and Natalie (Craig) Oppel and great granddaughter Erin Oppel of Muscatine, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by a sister Marie (Lester) Miller

A graduate of Forest High School and Northern University, and masters graduate from The Ohio State University, she taught primary elementary musc in Hardin, Harrison, Wayne, Trimball, Knox and Logan Counties before retiring from Benjamin Logan School District in 1974.

Lillian "Kay" Laub

Lillian "Kay" Laub, 81, of Indian Lake and formerly of Springfield, died Friday evening, Aug. 31, 2001, at Hospice of Dayton following a brief illness.

She was born in Sandersville, Miss., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P.C. Richard.

In addition to being a licensed pilot, Mrs. Laub served as a surgical nurse and lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II and later was a registered nurse in several Springfield area schools.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dr. William E. Laub Jr.; one son, William E. "Chip" Laub III of Coal Valley, Ill.; one daughter, Katherine H. "Kitty" Laub of New York City; one grandson, William E. Laub IV of Coal Valley; and other survivors including Mrs. Leona Ginn of New Orleans; and the Smith-Jackson families of Sandersville, Miss.

Hugh Earl Rinehart
Hugh Earl Rinehart, 74, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, in Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Lima on Dec. 23, 1926, a son of the late Hiram Jennings and Bernice Carol Earl Rinehart.

A member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Lima, Mr. Rinehart attended Ohio Northern University and The Ohio State University, receiving a masterŐs degree from the latter. He was a political science teacher in the Allen East School System and the Institute of Learning in Retirement. The educator was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

Mr. Rinehart traveled extensively in the 1950s as the Lima Goodwill Ambassador and was a member of the American Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Poverty Law Center in Atlanta.

He was active with the Auglaize County Democratic Party and was a former candidate for state representative. Mr. Rinehart was formerly a producer and director for WLIO Television and worked with the Encore Theater, both of Lima.

The U.S. Army veteran served in communications during World War II and was a member of the Indian Lake Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lima Fraternal Brotherhood of Protective Order of Elks, the Auglaize County Historical Society, the Uniopolis Historical Society and the Uniopolis Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Rinehart is survived by numerous cousins and friends.

E. Jeanne Sommers

E. Jeanne Sommers, 59, of Towanda, Kan., died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kan.

Born on Dec. 8, 1941, in Holton, Kan., she was a daughter of the late Bradford M. and Wanda Lowry Gamble. Her family moved to DeGraff in 1946 and she graduated from DeGraff High School in 1960. Later that year, she moved to her grandparent's farm near Towanda and met her future husband while attending Sunday School classes there.

She married Robert J. Sommers on June 28, 1964, in the Towanda United Methodist Church. She was not just a homemaker, but a traditional farmer's wife. Her life evolved around her husband and her five children. She was a quiet women, until asked about her children. Like most farm wives, she was a natural "green thumb". She loved to work in her garden, raise flowers and was a self-taught expert on trees and plants. She raised chickens and sold eggs to local families. She enjoyed helping her children with their 4-H projects, and as a young child was involved in 4-H with her horse.

When she wasn't helping her husband in the fields or cooking up a hearty lunch, she liked to spend her time doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and riding her horse. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Christ and the EMB Club. She also helped with the children during Vacation Bible schools at the church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Morgan W. Sommers of Arkansas City, Kan.; four daughters, Novelda Sommers of Wichita, Kan., Nora Sommers of New York and Brenda Sommers and Laura Sommers, both of Towanda; three brothers, Charles Gamble and David Gamble, both of DeGraff, and Morris Gamble of Lewistown; a sister-in-law, Ruby Gamble of DeGraff; and two aunts, Clara Williams of Canyon City, Colo., and Ethel Dyer of Arlington, Va.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Max Gamble.

Kathleen H. Styer
Kathleen H. Styer, 94, of Circleville, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in Pickaway Manor. She was born in St. Paris on Dec. 31, 1906, a daughter of the late Leonard and Naomi Hall.

Ms. Styer was a member of the United Methodist Church in West Liberty and the Pioneers of America.

She is survived by one brother, Richard Hall of Jackson Center; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Styer of Orient; three granddaughters, Rebecca (Jason) Styer-Stonerock of Circleville, Kathryn Styer of London and Sharon (Jeffrey) Wippel of Orient; seven great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

A son, William Richard Styer; two brothers; and one sister preceded her in death.

Ruby Eileen Berton

Ruby Eileen Berton, 83, formerly of 212 Pine Ridge Court, passed away at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.

Mrs. Berton was born in Bellefontaine on May 6, 1918, a daughter of Emery J. and Laura Barrett Richardson.

She married Paul W. Berton on Sept. 27, 1937, and he preceded her in death May 15, 1979.

Mrs. Berton retired from K.E. Strayer Plumbing after 32 years of service as a secretary and bookkeeper. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine and was a 1936 graduate of Bellefontaine High School.

Mrs. Berton enjoyed cooking, baking and sharing her baked goods with others.

She is survived by one son, James P. (Kimberlee) Berton of Bellefontaine; one daughter, Linda Montonery of Grove City; five grandchildren, Desiree Montoney, Michael Montoney, Kristin Clement, Stacy Berton and Jimmy Berton; and three great-grandchildren.

One brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

Joseph E. Mumma
Joseph E. Mumma, 61, of Indian Lake and formerly of Springfield, died early Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born in Champaign County on Oct. 11, 1939, a son of the late Edgar and Marjorie Calhoun Mumma.

Retired from Aerospace Industries after 35 years of service, Mr. Mumma was a member of the North Hampton United Church of Christ, Indian Lake Elks Lodge 2792 and the Indian Lake Loyal Order of the Moose 1533.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, boating and fishing, especially with his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Frances Helsel Mumma of Indian Lake; two sons, K. Douglas (Teresa) Mumma of Huber Heights and Mark B. (Shelly) Mumma of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters, Nancy Jordan of Springfield and Connie (Bob) Vincent of Enon; three granddaughters, Chelsea, Tara and Maranda; one nephew, Randy (Laka) Koerner; four nieces, Rhonda (Dene) Voorhees, Shelly Salyers, Robin (Rick) Scruton and Sarah Ballinger; and lifelong friends, Don and Gayle Carlyle.

Kenneth R. Coil

Kenneth R. Coil, 73, of 220 Nelson St., died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

He was born in Sidney on March 26, 1928, a son of the late Clyde and Ermal Fast Coil.

On May 26, 1974, Mr. Coil married the former June Poling in Sidney and she survives.

Along with his wife, Mr. Coil is survived by eight sons, Jason (Tabatha) Coil, Joe (Carol) Ransbottom, Bill (Trudy) Ransbottom and Tony Ransbottom, all of Bellefontaine, Ed (Anna) Saunders of Anna, David Saunders of Newport, Rick (Leslie) Saunders of Aiken, S.C., and Mike (Lori) Ransbottom of Tipp City; three daughters, Karlene Boekel of Arlington, Texas, Bonnie (Rick) Conley of Huntsville and Becky (Randy) Coy of Bellefontaine; one sister, Stella Lamb of Shreveport, La.; 29 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Coil; one brother, Clifford E. Coil; and one sister, Grace Lamb.

Mr. Coil was an employee of Monarch from 1953 to 1979 and began working for Siemens Energy and Automation in 1979, where he retired in 1990.

The 1946 graduate of Sidney High School was a member of the Anna Lutheran Church. The U.S. Army veteran was a member the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sidney and was a lifetime member of the Bellefontaine Veterans of Foreign Wars.
