HOWARD J. BROOKS
Howard J. "Duke" Brooks, 75, Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Newark, died Monday, Jan. 24 at Lee Memorial Hospital, Fort Myers, Fla.
Born July 23, 1924, Logan, son of the late Howard and Anna Waldren Brooks, he was the widower of Mary Lou Brooks, who died Jan. 4, 1994.
A World War II Army veteran, he earned a Purple Heart along with numerous other honors. He retired from Local 44 International of Heat and Frost and Asbestos Workers of America as a construction worker. He was a member of The Life Church in Heath, The Disabled American Veterans and Slater Bible Chapel in North Fort Myers, Fla.
Surviving are four sons, Joe (Becky) Brooks, Steve (Lori) Brooks, Scott (Barbara) Brooks and Chris Brooks, all of Newark; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence (Jeanie) Brooks and William Brooks, both of Logan; and three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Margaret) Kishler of Junction City, Mrs. John (Mary) Freeman of Rockbridge and Mrs. John (Shirley) Switzer of Logan.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Brooks, and a sister, Sharon Tony.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday at The Life Church, 101 Lancaster Drive, Heath, with the Rev. Michael Newland officiating.
Interment will be in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Graveside services will be conducted by Licking County Veterans Alliance.

WAYNE HARMON
Wayne S. Harmon, 85, Laurelville, died Wednesday, Jan. 26 at his residence.
Born Dec. 3, 1914, Hocking County, son of the late Beecher and Margaret Stump Harmon, he was married
to Laura Smith Harmon, who survives.
He was a member of Haynes United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Thelma) Congrove of Adelphi and Mrs. Charlie (Sondra) Ebert of Laurelville; four grandchildren, Randy and Sidney Congrove, Donald Max Nida and Renee "Rae" Canfield; three step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Binkley of Lancaster.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Francis Harmon, and two sisters, Nellie Shumaker and Erma Harmon.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Haynes United Methodist Church with Pastor Lawrence Sullivan officiating.
Burial will be in Green Summit cemetery, Adelphi.

JAMES PEOPLES SR.
James E. Peoples Sr., 71, Parkersburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 26 at SunBridge Care Center, Parkersburg, W.Va.
Born in Carbon, Ala., son of the late Henry Peoples and Eva Haygood Peoples Windham, he was married
to Cecil Irene Andrus Peoples, who survives.
A retired factory worker, he was a member of Belpre Church of Christ.
Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy Peoples of Washington, W.Va. and Mrs. Kelly (C. Sue Peoples) Price of Logan; a son, James E. Peoples Jr. of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Timothy James Curry, Jamie Amber Curry, Christy Ann Peoples, Brent Peoples, Shannon Dee Price and Samuel Ray Price; and a brother, Lloyd Peoples of Gary, Ind.
He also was preceded in death by a half brother, Charles Windham.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Belpre Church of Christ with Brian Grubbs officiating.
Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.

VESPER PHILLIPS
Vesper L. Phillips, 87, Wellington, formerly of Buchtel, died Thursday, Jan. 27 at Welcome Nursing Home, Oberlin.
Born March 25, 1912, New Straitsville, daughter of the late George and Erma Dixon Pargeon, she was the widow of Cecil Phillips.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville.
Burial will be in Dew cemetery, Buchtel.

ANNA NORTH
Anna Rosser North, 96, died Thursday, Jan. 27 in Charlotte, N.C.
A memorial Mass for the former Nelsonville resident will be held at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church in Buchtel at a later date.
GOLDA KLINGER
Golda Elaine Klinger, 81, Logan, died Saturday, Jan. 29 at her residence following an extended illness.
Born March 7, 1918, Draffin, Ky., daughter of the late John and Polly Senter Meadows, she was married
to Robert Lee Klinger, who survives.
A homemaker, she was a former employee of H.C. Godman Shoe Company in Logan. She was a member of VFW, Eagles and Moose auxiliaries.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary L. (Inge) Sater of Rockbridge and Albert W. Klinger of Logan; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Carol J.) Shelton of Logan; three sisters, Mrs. Paul (Kathryn) Mathias of Chamblee, Ga., Mrs. Bob (Betty) Cottrill of Saint Marys, W.Va., and Gladys Conrad of Logan; three brothers, George (Donna) Meadows of Logan, Jack (Pat) Meadows of Logan and James (Delores) Meadows of Logan; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Frank Meadows.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roberts Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert E. Dauber officiating.
Burial will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Good Hope Township, Rockbridge.

NED R. McGREW
Ned R. McGrew, 59, Lancaster, died Friday, Jan. 28 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Son of the late Paul and Berniece McGrew, he was married
for 25 years to Ruth Ann McGrew, who survives.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a member of Sixth Avenue United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was previous owner of McGrew Heating and Air Conditioning, service manager for York International and a member of American Legion Post 11.
Also surviving are two daughters, Korey McGrew of Lancaster and Mrs. Jim (Laura) Hacker of Gibisonville; a son, Mark (Vicki) McGrew of Pineville, La.; two grandsons, Justin Hacker and Cameron Hacker; an aunt, Mrs. Ralph (Juanita) Hanselman of Lancaster; an uncle, Ralph W. McGrew of Lakewood; a special cousin, Mrs. Elmer (June Ann) Liff of Lancaster; and a mother-in-law, Margaret Slate of Gibisonville.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Frank E. Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Lancaster, with the Rev. John Harra officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Olive cemetery, Gibisonville.

Rose Mary Franke, 64, Junction City, died Sunday, Jan. 30 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Daughter of the late Frank and Rosa Nesser, she was married
to Henry Franke Sr., who survives.
She was a homemaker and an avid bowler.
Also surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. David (Rebecca) Dupler of New Lexington, Mrs. David (Diana) Whightsel of Logan, Mrs. Michael (Rose Mary) Carroll of Lancaster, Mrs. Gary (Peggy) Paugh of Pleasantville, Mrs. Dwayne (Angela) Young of Logan, Mrs. Michael (Karen) Robinson of Junction City and Mrs. Shawn (Janette) Persinger of Lancaster; a son, Henry (Debbie) Franke Jr.; 11 grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn Franke of Pleasantville; an aunt, Mrs. Wayne (Erma) Hines of Ashville; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Sherman Moury; two brothers; and six sisters.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, Lancaster, with the Rev. Mark Raddatz officiating.

Betty Jane Brown Goss, 82, Lancaster, died Sunday, Jan. 30 at Johnston Nursing Home.
Daughter of the late Charles D. and Lydia E. Mohler Brown, she was the widow of Sam Goss.
She was a member of Olivedale Senior Citizens Center.
Surviving are two brothers, John L. (Carol) Brown of Lancaster and Hal D. (Betty) Brown of Logan; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Hansel.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, Lancaster, with the Rev. Robert B. St. Clair officiating.
Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.

VIRGINIA B. KELLY
Virginia B. Kelly, 82, Logan, died Friday, Jan. 28 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 4, 1917, Zanesville, daughter of the late James and Lula May Gibson Ralph, she was the widow of Paul Kelly, who died in 1965.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Roger (Sharon) Harden of Homestead, Fla., Mrs. Zeke (Saundra) Voits of Logan and Mrs. Tom (Lisa) Cole of Richmond, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Mike and Terry Demmick of Homestead, Fla., Christopher, Matt and Andrew Uhl of Richmond, Ind., Mark Woltz of Nelsonville, Mrs. Thom (Kelly) Perry of Logan, Mrs. Rich (Teresa) Blake of Logan and Jon (Lynette) Voits of Columbus; and six great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date.
Interment will be in Forest Rose cemetery, Lancaster.

WILLIAM E. MOSMEIER
William "Bill" E. Mosmeier, 52, Laurelville, died Monday, Jan. 31 at Mount Carmel Hospital.
Born Sept. 28, 1947, Batesville, Ind., son of Edward and Helen Reddert Mosmeier, he was married
to Linda Jacobs Mosmeier, who survives.
Owner and operator of Iron Horse Builders, he graduated with a master's degree in structural engineering from Purdue University in 1972. He was a member of Laurelville Church of God, where he served on the board of trustees for several years. He also was involved in raising club lambs and ran a large sheep operation.
Also surviving are a son, Chris (Kathy) Mosmeier of Laurelville; two daughters, Vicki Cottrill and Mrs. Kevin (Ami) Sowers, both of Laurelville; five grandchildren, Jacob and Shelby Cottrill, Baylie and Keifer Mosmeier and Andrew Sowers; and a sister, Mrs. Rob (Nancy) Roberson of Dayton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Laurelville Church of God.
Burial will be in Green Summit cemetery, Adelphi.
