WILLIAM LEE
William "Bill" Lee, 76, Logan, died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 19 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born April 16, 1923, Orient, he was the son of the late Jess E. and Winefred Lee.
He retired from Hocking Valley Industries, was a member of Scenic Hills Senior Center and enjoyed many friends and activities at the senior center. He attended Antioch Alliance Church and will be missed by several friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Livingstone officiating.
Burial will be in Shaw cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 today at the funeral home.
Bill's friends wish to thank Hocking County 911, Hocking County EMS, Logan Fire Department and the emergency room staff at Hocking Valley Community Hospital for all they did during Bill's brief illness.
WILLIAM EDWARD MERCER
William Edward "Bill" Mercer, 68, Logan, formerly of Jackson, died Friday, Feb. 18 at Mount Carmel Medical Center, Columbus, following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 23, 1931, Jackson, son of the late Floyd Theodore and Margaret Edith David Mercer, he was married
to Faye Joann Woodruff Mercer, who survives.
He was a great and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a former owner and operator with his wife of J&B Sohio in South Bloomingville from 1963 to 1981, and of Grandma Faye's near Old Man's Cave State Park from 1981 to 1986.
A retired school bus driver from Logan-Hocking School District after 21 years of service, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 888 in Columbus and a charter member of Windy Hills Golf Course in Rockbridge.
Also surviving are a son, William Thomas Robin Mercer of Logan; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Cindy) Huffman of South Bloomingville; and three grandchildren, Heather Jo and Cole Huffman of South Bloomingville and Sonya Hopkins of Logan.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore Mercer, and a sister, Jeanne Hughes.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Roberts Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn W. Clausen officiating.
Friends may call from noon Saturday until time of services at the funeral home.

LUZELLA POLING
Luzella Poling, 91, Logan, died Friday, Feb. 18 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 16, 1908, Jackson Township, Perry County, daughter of the late Joseph Otto and Alice McCoy Brehm, she was married
for 68 years to Calvin Maywood Poling, who survives.
A homemaker, she was a former employee of Erickson Glass in Bremen and attended Mount Tabor Church in Marion Township.
Also surviving are three sons, Calvin Lee (Marilou) Poling of Lancaster, Albert M. (Nancy) Poling of Logan and Oliver C. (Diane) Poling of Lancaster; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Lorean) Carr of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Corydon Brehm.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Roberts Funeral Home with the Rev. Simon A. Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Tabor cemetery, Hocking County.

KATRINA TAGGART
Katrina Sue McGuire Taggart, 25, Nelsonville, ascended to heaven peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 19.
Born April 20, 1974, she was the daughter of Brenda and Darrow Tolliver and Mark and Diane McGuire, all of Nelsonville.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville.
Interment will be at Greenlawn cemetery, Nelsonville.

EVELYN BATEMAN
Evelyn Jane Bateman, 68, Buchtel, died Sunday, Feb. 20 at Doctors Hospital, Nelsonville.
Born Nov. 1, 1931, Nelsonville, daughter of the late Lee O. and Blanche Johnston Smith, she was married
to Philip D. Bateman, who survives.

SHIRLEY HANDA
Shirley K. Handa, 65, Logan, died Monday, Feb. 21 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born Feb. 11, 1935, she was the daughter of Bernice Exline Kennard of Logan and the late Edwin P. Kennard.
Also surviving are two sons, Steve Handa of Hollister and Bruce (Lisa) Handa of Logan; three granddaughters, Michelle, Holly and Krista Handa, all of Logan; three sisters, Charlotte Benca of Columbus, Jean Downs of Logan and Mrs. Tom (Charlene "Boots") Shuttleworth of Enterprise; two brothers, Larry (Edith) Kennard of Lancaster and Donald "Pork" (Debbie) Kennard of Logan; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Earl Kennard.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. James Mathias officiating.
Burial will be in Asbury cemetery, Hocking County.

Melrose M. Kinnison, 78, Murray City, died Sunday, Feb. 20 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Born Feb. 19, 1922, Murray City, daughter of the late Walter and Lillian Burnard Spencer, she was the widow of George C. Kinnison, who died Sept. 6, 1997.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Nelsonville.

DAVID MICHAEL RINGHISER
David Michael Ringhiser, 49, Rockbridge, died Friday, Feb. 18 at his residence.
Born Dec. 7, 1950, Lancaster, son of the late Everett Ringhiser and Gertrude Kraft Cox, he was married
to Cheryl Clark Ringhiser, who survives.
He was retired from Diamond Power Corp. in Lancaster.
Also surviving are a son, Chase (Paula) Ringhiser of Rockbridge; a brother, Walter "Gene" (Debbie) Ringhiser of Logan; and a sister, Mrs. Stanley (Margie) Wilson of Logan.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Mae Stevens and Cheryl Griffin.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with Pastor Diora Edgell officiating.
Burial will be in Knollwood cemetery, Hocking County.

Ralph R. Smith, 91, Pleasantville, died Friday, Feb. 18 at Heartland of Fairfield Nursing Home, Pleasantville.
Born April 17, 1908, Hocking County, son of the late John R. and Gertrude Hashman Smith, he was the widower of Mary Lou Smith.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville.
Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Nelsonville.

F. CHARLENE UCKER
F. Charlene Ucker, 70, La Mesa, Calif., formerly of Logan, died Saturday, Feb. 19 in La Mesa, Calif., following a short illness.
Born Jan. 3, 1930, Hocking County, beloved daughter of the late Rudolph and Iva Nichols Woodard, she was the widow of Paul Mathias Ucker, who died Sept. 29, 1991. The couple were married
for 44 years.
She was a former employee in the medical records department of Kaiser Hospital, La Mesa, Calif., and was an active member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in La Mesa, Calif. She was very active in the American Cancer Society in La Mesa, Calif., serving as district campaign chairperson. She also was active in organized youth football and baseball programs.
Surviving are a son, Martin Jay "Marty" (Lynn) Ucker of La Mesa, Calif.; three grandchildren, Kristopher Ucker of La Mesa, Calif., Jason Ucker of La Mesa, Calif. and Chelsea Lynn Ucker of La Mesa, Calif.; twin grandsons, Michael and Anthony Ucker of La Mesa, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Jack (Doris M.) Polsley of Lancaster.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Paul Ucker, who died in 1959; a brother, Clinton Woodard; and a sister, Norma Jean Moyer.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Richard J. Pendolphi officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.

Sadie E. Simonton, 95, Nelsonville, died Wednesday, Feb. 23 at her residence.
Born July 28, 1904, Vinton County, daughter of the late Edward and Alice Jane Ewing Thacker, she was the widow of Donald Simonton.
