HESTER TUCKER
Hester Tucker, 73, Rockbridge, died Saturday, March 11 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Born April 21, 1926, Jacksonville, daughter of the late Tillman and Martha Boggs Adkins, she was widow of David Tucker.
She was a retired press operator for Goodyear and a member of Local 744 United Rubber Workers Union.
Surviving are a son, Walter L. Sharon Jr. of Rockbridge; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mabel) Rooker Sr. and Mrs. Raymond (Ercell) Thornton Sr., both of Rockbridge, and Martha Miller of McConnellsville; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Adkins of Logan, Tom Adkins of Gahanna and George Adkins of Columbus; and three sisters, Mary Hay of Okeechobee, Fla., and Minnie Berenz and Helen Grooms, both of Columbus.
She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Herb; her second husband, Walter Sharon Sr.; a son, David Herb Sr.; two brothers, David and Jack Adkins; an infant brother; three sisters, Winnie Householder, Jean Manning and Alma Zarbaugh; and a grandson, Daniel Belcher.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Diora Edgell officiating.
Burial will be in New Fairview cemetery, Rockbridge.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 Tuesday at the funeral home.

FRED WHITE
Fred T. "Deacon" White, 77, died Saturday, March 11 at Mount Carmel East Hospital, Columbus.
He was married for 54 years to Virginia White, who survives.
A World War II Army Air Force veteran, he was former POW and flew 23 missions for the 8th Air Force, 379th Bomber Group, 526th Bomber Squadron. He retired from Shoemaker Electric Company.
Also surviving are a son, Thomas (Mary Jane) White; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Lynne) Jaga; three granddaughters, Mrs. Troy (Amy) Meek, Sara White and Rachel White; a great-grandson, Grant Meek; two brothers, Joe and Don White; and a sister, Winnie McPherson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Evans Funeral Home, 4171 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, with the Rev. Ted Grant officiating.
Interment will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Asbury cemetery, Lakehope, where friends may call one hour prior to services.
Friends also may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to American Heart Association.

MARY H. LITTLE
Mary Hamilton Little, 85, Summerfield, Fla., died Friday, March 10 at Ocala Regional Medical Center in Florida.
Born Aug. 14, 1914, South Bloomingville, she was the widow of Harold Little.
She spent most of her youth in Logan. After marrying Harold Little, they spent most of their married life in Reed City, Mich. After retirement, they moved to Summerfield, Fla., where they lived for the past 20 years.
Because of her love for children, the Littles devoted many years to running a summer youth camp at their ranch-style home in Reed City, Mich. She worked as a head dietitian at St. Phillips Catholic School and also volunteered many hours at Reed City Hospital in the extended care unit, spending many hours teaching crafts to elderly patients.
She was active in the Order of Eastern Star, serving in various offices and was Worthy Matron several times. She received an appointment to represent the state of Michigan's Order of Eastern Star as Grand Lecturer for a year. She also was very active in Reed City Historical Society.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Wesley (Margaret) Cannon of Logan; a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Judy) Stegner of Queensfield, Australia; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Australia; several nieces and nephews; wonderful caretakers, Jane and Bill Hurtz and Mike and Patty Cordele from Bellview, Fla.; and special neighbors, Louise and Bob Smith and Heskell and Eleanor Hammond.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Ocala, Fla.
Burial will be in Oxford cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to services.
The family suggests contributions be made to American Cancer Society.

BEN SHEPPARD
Ben Forrest Sheppard, 76, Logan, died Sunday, March 12 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital following an extended illness.
Born June 10, 1923, Pecks Mill, W.Va., son of the late Allen Jay and Nannie Deskins Sheppard, he was the widower of Faye S. Sheppard, who died in 1999.
A World War II Army veteran and a former POW, he was a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. He was a retired lineman with 30 years of service for General Motors in Columbus.
He was a former elementary school teacher in Breeden, W.Va. and a member of Masonic Lodge in Columbus.
Surviving are a son, Ben Garland (Deborah A.) Sheppard of Logan; a grandson, Shane Garland Sheppard of Columbus; two stepbrothers, Joe A. and William B. Brown, both of Logan; a stepsister, Betty J. Sheppard of London; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Ben Jay Sheppard, who died in 1985; three brothers, Sid, Carlos and Allen Sheppard; and three sisters, Lovada Damron, Mattie Bryant and Esther Sheppard.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph N. Cordle and Pastor Rodger Parrish officiating.
Burial will be in Shaw cemetery, Falls Township, Hocking County.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Combined Veterans of Hocking County.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CHARLES McAFEE
Charles O. McAfee, 71, Logan, died Sunday, March 11 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Born Nov. 17, 1928, Parkersburg, W.Va., son of the late George R. and Cora Alice Kennard McAfee, he was married Oct. 19, 1946 to Mary J. Trowbridge McAfee, who survives. The couple were married 53 1/2 years.
A Starr-Washington High School graduate, he attended Ohio University in Athens. He was employed at Central Materials in Kinnikinnick for 24 years and retired from Hocking Valley Concrete in 1989. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Logan. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus.
He also was a member of Adelphi Masonic Lodge F&AM 527, the Adelphian Lodge 754 Knights of Pythias, and a past member and board member of Hocking Hills Country Club.
Also surviving are a son, John O. McAfee of Logan; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Georgann) Engle of Logan; a granddaughter, Tiffany Engle of Logan; a brother-in-law, John (Martha) Trowbridge of Summerfield, Fla.; four nephews; one niece; and three uncles, Pat McAfee, Hilas McAfee and Jim Kennard.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita McAfee.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Gary Wheeler officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family in attendance from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.
Masonic services will be held 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to Children's Hospital, Children's Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43205 or Hospice of Hocking County, 280 E. State St., Athens, Ohio 45701.

VERA EADS
Vera Ann Eads, 59, New Plymouth, died Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Doctors Hospital North, Columbus.
Daughter of Elaine Newman of Nelsonville and the late Arthur G. Newman, she was married to Lloyd G. "Sugar" Eads, who survives.
She was pastor of Fellowship United Methodist Church in Logan. She will be sadly missed by all.
Also surviving are a son, Daniel Pancake III of North Huntington, Pa.; three sisters, Lynn Bishop, Nancy Newman and Sonja Smith, all of Nelsonville; three grandsons; and two granddaughters.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Roger "Pook" Newman.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fellowship United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jim Lambert officiating.
Hymns will be sung by Margie Moore and Sharon Hardman.

ALBERT MAXWELL
Albert Maxwell, 89, Buckingham, died Tuesday, March 14 at O'Bleness Hospital, Athens.
Born Oct. 16, 1910, Murray City, son of the late Sullivan and Hilda Hayden Maxwell, he was the widower of Maycel G. Welker Maxwell.
He was a custodian for 23 years for Southern Local School District.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Pat) Keller of SR 13, Glouster, Mrs. David (Ruth) Van-Schoor and Wilma Maxwell of Buckingham; three sisters, Ruth Manchester and Viva Sarah Andrus, both of Akron, and Garnet Freysinger of Urbana; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Emmitt, Frank, Gerald and Daine Maxwell; and a sister, Wilda Strausbaugh.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Shawnee, with the Rev. Clarence Thompson officiating.
Burial will be in Otsego Methodist cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and after 6 today at the funeral home.

GRACE COLLEEN METCALF
Grace Colleen Metcalf, 70, Nelsonville, died Wednesday, March 15 at her residence.
Born Aug. 13, 1929, Union Furnace, daughter of the late Alma and Lena Hemsworth Burt, she was married for 53 years to Paul Metcalf, who survives.
Also surviving are seven sons, Joseph (Nancy) Metcalf of Orient, Sam Metcalf of Logan, Dan Metcalf and Tim Metcalf, both of Columbus, and Tom (Karen) Metcalf, Mark Metcalf and Phillip (Kim) Metcalf, all of Nelsonville; four daughters, Martha Steinbrink and Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Winchell, both of Nelsonville, and Ruth Metcalf and Anna Winchell, both of Albany; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Helen) Burt of Sebring, Fla. and John (Linda) Burt of Columbus; and two sisters, Mrs. Sandy (Barbara) Auflick of Hollister and Mrs. Jim (Patricia) Cullison of Nelsonville.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Strong; two granddaughters, JoAnna and Esther Sue Winchell; and a grandson, Darin Metcalf.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. John Johnson officiating.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Nelsonville.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Friday at the funeral home.

JOANNE DeVAULT
Joanne DeVault, 64, Nelsonville, died Wednesday, March 15 at Doctors Hospital North, Columbus.
Born March 23, 1935, Franklin County, daughter of the late Ed Timmons and Edith Armentrout Timmons Dickson, she was the widow of Robert DeVault, who died Nov., 2, 1984.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville.
Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Nelsonville.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 Saturday at the funeral home.

HARRY F. NIXON
Harry F. Nixon, 67, Nelsonville, died Wednesday, March 15 at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.
Born Sept. 9, 1932, Hocking County, son of the late Vernon and Faye Farley Nixon, he was married to Ann Bumgardner Nixon, who survives.
A Korean War Army veteran, he graduated from Starr-Washington High School in 1950. He was a member of Nelsonville First United Methodist Church, Nelsonville Elks 543, Nelsonville Philodorean Masonic Lodge 157, Chapter of the Royal Arch Mason's Council of the Royal and Select Mason's, Aladdin Shrine and Scottish Rite.
Also surviving are two sons, Harry A. (Eileen) Nixon of Lancaster and Steven W. (Michele) Nixon of Toledo; a daughter, Lee Ann Nixon of Columbus; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher Nixon; and three sisters, Mrs. Frank (JoAnn) Conkle of Logan, Mrs. Jerry (Beverly) Lehman of Logan and Kathryn Wilson of Norwalk.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth James and Sarah Blackburn, and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Kenneth Nixon.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Gary Carlson officiating.
Interment will be in Connett cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family in attendance from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.
Masonic services will be held 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to Nelsonville First United Methodist Church, 205 W. Columbus St., Nelsonville, Ohio 45764.
