BETTY GUESS
Betty J. Guess, 78, Logan, died Friday, March 17 at Main Street Terrace Nursing Home, Lancaster.
Born Feb. 18, 1922, Hocking County, daughter of the late William Hammond and Florence Thorton Hammond Polen, she was the widow of Lewis Jefferson Guess, who died in 1954.
She retired after 18 years as a ward clerk for Hocking Valley Community Hospital. She loved to play Bingo. She loved the outdoors, sitting in her swing watching the boats on Lake Logan. She enjoyed the late and taking pontoon rides.
She collected Avon for many years, loved her flowers and many yard ornaments. She always had family Christmas Eve gatherings. Her grandchildren have fond memories of the tire swing at Grandma's and what she always said to them as they departed to go home, "See you in the Funny Papers."
Surviving are two sons, Ronald (Martha) Guess and Kenneth (Carol) Guess, both of Logan; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Patty) Roley of Sugar Grove and Mrs. Bob (Judy) Conrad of Logan; 29 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Evans of Union Furnace and Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Holcomb of Logan.
She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley and Nancy Keister; two grandchildren, Jeff Roley and Vicki Keister; and a longtime special friend, Abe Mohler.
Funeral services will be 10 am. Monday at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Magruder officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Rockbridge.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family in attendance from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

TIMOTHY A. SPEARS
Timothy A. Spears, 29, Lancaster, died Wednesday, March 15 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
He was the son of the late Bernice Spears.
A 1989 Berne Union High School graduate, he was employed at Lancaster Glass Corporation and was a member of AFGU 501. He was a former member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 2120.
Surviving are three brothers, Gene (Debbie) Spears of Logan, Steve Spears of Ponca City, Okla. and Paul (Kathy) Bennington of Piketon; two sisters, Vicki Kincaid of Hull, Ga. and Mrs. Rick (Connie) Johnson of Lancaster; fiance, Robin Murray of Lancaster; special nieces and nephews, Carisa Ailes and Eugene and Brian Spears; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, Lancaster, with Pastor Bob Rauch officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Lancaster.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday at the funeral home.
CLIFFORD ANDERSON
Clifford "Russ" Anderson, 81, 920 S. Main St., New Lexington, formerly of New Straitsville, died Friday, March 17.
Born Oct. 28, 1918, Perry County, son of the late William and Cara Van Horn Anderson, he was married
for 30 years to Irene Miller Anderson, who survives.
Catholic by faith, he was a retired employee of Columbus Clay Co. of New Straitsville. He also was former police chief of New Straitsville and a jailer for the Perry County Sheriff's Department.
A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Elks 509 and Junction City Legion Post 376.
Also surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Bob (Jean) Mullen of Olmsted Falls, Mrs. John (Mary Catherine) Craig of Shawnee, Mrs. Carl (Kaye) Gibson of Brunswick, Mrs. Steve (Becky) Matchett of Pleasantville and Jane Downs and Steve Cave of Lancaster; two sons, Dick (Sue) Anderson of New Straitsville and Jim Anderson of Circleville; two stepdaughters, Audrey Miller and Naomi Canipe of Jacksonville; and numerous grand- and great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Bagley Anderson; and a brother, Harry Anderson.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
The family suggests contributions be made to Hospice of Genesis.

VERNON NAPIER
Funeral services were held March 13 at New Plymouth United Methodist Church for Vernon Napier, 65, New Plymouth, who died Friday, March 10 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, following a brief illness.
The Revs. Marguerite McGrady and Robert McManaway officiated.
Burial was in Asbury cemetery.
Military graveside services were conducted by Vinton County VFW Post 5299.
Born June 11, 1934, Avawam, Ky., son of the late Charles and Mary Campbell Napier, he was married
for almost 40 years to Patty White Napier, who survives.
He was a tour bus driver for Trailway Bus Lines and a barber. He was a former owner of Vern's Barber Shop in Logan and Plaza Barber Shop in Athens. He was a graduate of Andrews Barber College in Columbus.
A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Delta Lodge 207 F&AM in McArthur. He also was a member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus, Kentucky Colonels and Hocking County Farm Bureau.
Also surviving are a son, Timmy (Tammy) Napier of Logan, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Napier of Logan; a step-granddaughter, Franchon Francees of Southhampton, N.Y.; a sister, Marie Latham of Columbus; and three brothers, James (Mary Ellen) Napier of Columbus, Troy Napier of Jackson and Bob (Linda) Napier of New Plymouth.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Harlan Napier; and a sister, Ethel Mae Napier.
Arrangements were by Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur.
STEVE ANDREW TIRPAK
Steve Andrew Tirpak, 43, Logan, died Saturday, March 18 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 7, 1956, Harrisburg, Pa., son of Judith Alexandria Citron Tirpak of Gahanna and the late Andrew Paul Tirpak, he was married
to Kellie Kathalene Hutchison, who survives.
He graduated from Ohio State University in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in landscape horticulture. He formerly owned and operated Designer Exteriors Landscape in Hocking County.
He was a member of Ohio Nurserymen Association, Logan-Hocking County Chamber of Commerce, Hocking Grange and St. John Catholic Church.
He loved the outdoors, getting his hands dirty, doing unexpected favors, folk music, great food and experiencing life. As spring brings renewal to the earth he cherished, we will remember and tend memories of his goodness.
Also surviving are a son, Jude Andrew Tirpak of the home; a daughter, Jessie Kathleen Tirpak of the home; and two sisters, Karen Marie Tirpak of Chicago, Ill. and Deborah Ann Tirpak of Gahanna.
Funeral Mass will be held noon Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church with the Rev. Fathers Richard J. Pendolphi and Adrian D. Tirpak, TOR, and uncle of the deceased, officiating.
Private burial will be held in Hutchison Family cemetery, Falls Township, Hocking County.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 today at Roberts Funeral Home.
A Christian vigil will be held 7:15 p.m. today at the funeral home.

AVANELL V. CAMPBELL
Avanell V. Campbell, 86, Logan, died Tuesday, March 21 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born July 16, 1913, Hocking County, daughter of the late Lawrence and Jessie McManaway Smith, she was the widow of Harold Campbell.
She was retired from Lancaster Glass and was a member of VFW Auxiliary and Women of the Moose 997.
Surviving are a son, Herbert "Sonny" (Kay) Campbell of Carbon Hill; two grandchildren, Mrs. Curt (Sharon) Gail of Nelsonville and Michael Campbell of Belpre; three great-grandchildren, Heather Gail (Wayne), Jason (Trisha) Gail and Justin Gail; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Smith of Florida.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ricketts, and a brother, Fred Smith.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with Pastor Paul Taylor officiating.
Interment will be in Carbon Hill cemetery.

Women of the Moose memorial services will be conducted 7:30 p.m. today.

Heaven Lee Conner Davison, infant son of Candy L. Conner Barstow and Charles Davison, died Monday, March 20 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today at Shaw cemetery.

GLEN E. O'REILLY
Glen E. O'Reilly, 91, formerly of Columbus, died Saturday, March 18 at St. Luke's Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fla.
A native of Logan, he was the widower of Elizabeth O'Reilly.
He was a member of Wabon Lodge 305 F&AM, AASR, Valley of Bay City, Aladdin Temple Shrine.
Surviving are a son-in-law, Jim Rausch of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Agnes) Crabbs of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Mrs. Duane (Pam) Crone of Seattle, Wash., Michael (Lisa) Rausch of Hilliard and Matthew (Patricia) Rausch of Jacksonville, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Emily Crone and Alex and Samantha Rausch; and a niece, Sally Crabbs of Cincinnati.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter, June Rausch.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Union cemetery with the Rev. David Risch officiating.

Viva Z. Reeves, 84, Columbus, died Saturday, March 18 at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.
Born April 21, 1915, Glouster, daughter of the late T. Harvey and Amy Giffin Samson, she was the widow of Oscar L. Reeves.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster.
Interment will be in Maplewood cemetery, Glouster.

DOROTHY H. THOMPSON
Dorothy H. Thompson, 69, Hallsville, died Monday, March 20 at Doctors Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 14, 1930, Hocking County, daughter of the late George A. and Margaret Disbennett Arledge, she was the widow of John Arledge, who died June 30, 1989.
Surviving are a son, Michael Ray Thompson of Hallsville; two daughters, Mrs. Derrick Alan (Robin Jo) Diltz and Ms. Kim Michele Kuhn, both of Hallsville; three sisters, Kate Yerian of Hallsville, Polly McKenzie of Circleville and Betty Seymour of Chillicothe; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Arledge.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hill Funeral Home, Kingston, with the Rev. Eric VanBuskirk officiating.
Burial will be in Hallsville cemetery.
